John 7:1And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him. After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death. After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him.
John 7:2Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near. But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near. But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching.
John 7:3His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest; So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do.So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform.
John 7:4for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be [known] in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men.For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world."
John 7:5for neither did his brethren believe on him.For even his brothers had no belief in him.For even His brothers were not believers in Him.
John 7:6Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you."My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable.
John 7:7The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil.It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil.
John 7:8Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for *my* time is not yet fulfilled.Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come.As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come."
John 7:9Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee.Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee.
John 7:10But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret. But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret. When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately.
John 7:11The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he?Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?"
John 7:12And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is [a] good [man]; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd. And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas.Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people."
John 7:13However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of [their] fear of the Jews. But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews.Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him.
John 7:14But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught. Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching. But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching.
John 7:15The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this [man] letters, having never learned? Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school. The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?"
John 7:16Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but [that] of him that has sent me.Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me.Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me.
John 7:17If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or [that] I speak from myself. If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from from God or from myself. If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me.
John 7:18He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him that man is true and there is no evil in him.The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him.
John 7:19Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death?Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?"
John 7:20The crowd answered [and said], Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee? The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death?"You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you."
John 7:21Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder. This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it."One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder.
John 7:22Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.Moses gave you circumcision not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision.Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child.
John 7:23If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath? If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day?
John 7:24Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness.Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just."
John 7:25Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill? Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired? Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill?
John 7:26and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ? And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ? But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ?
John 7:27But [as to] this [man] we know whence he is. Now [as to] the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from. And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from."
John 7:28Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know. Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him.Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge.
John 7:29I know him, because I am from him, and *he* has sent me.I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me.I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me."
John 7:30They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come. Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come.On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come.
John 7:31But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this [man] has done? And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done? But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?"
John 7:32The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him. This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him.The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him.
John 7:33Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me.So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me.
John 7:34Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me], and where I am ye cannot come. You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come. You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."
John 7:35The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks? The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
John 7:36What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me]; and where I am ye cannot come? What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come? What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?"
John 7:37In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him.On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink.
John 7:38He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water. He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow."
John 7:39But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for [the] Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come.He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
John 7:40[Some] out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet. When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet. After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet."
John 7:41Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee?Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee?
John 7:42Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was?Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?"
John 7:43There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.So there was a division among the people because of him.So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account.
John 7:44But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him. Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him.
John 7:45The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him? Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you?Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"
John 7:46The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man [speaks].The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man."No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers.
John 7:47The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas?"Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees;
John 7:48Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees?"has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?
John 7:49But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed. But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed. But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!"
John 7:50Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),Nicodemus he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them said to them,Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them.
John 7:51Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done?"Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?"
John 7:52They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee. This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee."Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin."
John 7:53And every one went to his home.[And every man went to his house;[So they went away to their several homes;
