| John 8:3 | And the scribes and the Pharisees bring [to him] a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst, | Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation; | and was teaching them when the Scribes and the Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been found committing adultery. They made her stand in the centre of the court, and they put the case to Him. |
| John 8:4 | they say to him, Teacher, this woman has been taken in the very act, committing adultery. | And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation. | "Rabbi," they said, "this woman has been found in the very act of committing adultery. |
| John 8:5 | Now in the law Moses has commanded us to stone such; thou therefore, what sayest thou? | Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it? | Now, in the Law, Moses has ordered us to stone such women to death. But what do you say?" |
| John 8:6 | But this they said proving him, that they might have [something] to accuse him [of]. But Jesus, having stooped down, wrote with his finger on the ground. | They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger. | They asked this in order to put Him to the test, so that they might have some charge to bring against Him. But Jesus leant forward and began to write with His finger on the ground. |
| John 8:7 | But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up and said to them, Let him that is without sin among you first cast the stone at her. | But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her. | When however they persisted with their question, He raised His head and said to them, "Let the sinless man among you be the first to throw a stone at her." |

Has no one condemned you?" |

| John 8:19 | They said to him therefore, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me nor my Father. Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father. | "Where is your Father?" they asked. "You know my Father as little as you know me." He replied; "if you knew me, you would know my Father also." |
| John 8:20 | These words spoke he in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one took him, for his hour was not yet come. | Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come. | These sayings He uttered in the Treasury, while teaching in the Temple; yet no one arrested Him, because His time had not yet come. |
| John 8:21 | He said therefore again to them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin; where I go ye cannot come. | Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going. | Again He said to them, "I am going away. Then you will try to find me, but you will die in your sins. Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come." |

Ye are of this world; I am not of this world. | And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world. | "You," He continued, "are from below, I am from above: you are of this present world, I am not of this present world. |

| John 8:28 | Jesus therefore said to them, When ye shall have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me I speak these things. | So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching. | So Jesus added, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He. | John 8:29 | And he that has sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, because I do always the things that are pleasing to him. | He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him. | And He who sent me is with me. What do those words of yours mean, `You shall become free'?" |
| John 8:34 | Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin. | And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin. | "In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that every one who commits sin is the slave of sin. |
| John 8:35 | Now the bondman abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever. | Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does. | Now a slave does not remain permanently in his master's house, but a son does. |
| John 8:36 | If therefore the Son shall set you free, ye shall be really free. | If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free. | If then the Son shall make you free, you will be free indeed. |

Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham; | In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did. | "Our father is Abraham," they said. "If you were Abraham's children," replied Jesus, "it is Abraham's deeds that you would be doing. |
| John 8:40 | but now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham. | But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that. | But, in fact, you are longing to kill me, a man who has spoken to you the truth which I have heard from God. Abraham did not do that. |
| John 8:41 | Ye do the works of your father. They said [therefore] to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one father, God. | You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God. | You are doing the deeds of your father." "We," they replied, "are not illegitimate children. We have one Father, namely God." |
| John 8:42 | Jesus said to them, If God were your father ye would have loved me, for I came forth from God and am come [from him]; for neither am I come of myself, but *he* has sent me. | Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me. | "If God were your Father," said Jesus, "you would love me; for it is from God that I came and I am now here. I have not come of myself, but *He* sent me. |
| John 8:43 | Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word. | Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching. | How is it you do not understand me when I speak? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my words. |
| John 8:44 | Ye are of the devil, as [your] father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father: | You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false. | The father whose sons you are is the Devil; and you desire to do what gives him pleasure. *He* was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth for there is no truth in him. Whenever he utters his lie, he utters it out of his own store; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. |
| John 8:45 | and because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me. | But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me. | But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me. |
| John 8:46 | Which of you convinces me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me? | Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me? | Which of *you* convicts me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me? |
| John 8:47 | He that is of God hears the words of God: therefore ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God. | He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God. | He who is a child of God listens to God's words. You do not listen to them: and why? It is because you are not God's children." |
| John 8:48 | The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon? | The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit? | "Are we not right," answered the Jews, "in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?" |
| John 8:49 | Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me. | And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me. | "I am not possessed by a demon," replied Jesus.
