Matthew 19:1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, he withdrew from Galilee, and came to the coasts of Judaea beyond the Jordan; And it came about that after saying these words, Jesus went away from Galilee, and came into the parts of Judaea on the other side of Jordan. When Jesus had finished these discourses, He removed from Galilee and came into that part of Judaea which lay beyond the Jordan.
Matthew 19:2and great crowds followed him, and he healed them there. And a great number went after him; and he made them well there. And a vast multitude followed him, and He cured them there.
Matthew 19:3And the Pharisees came to him tempting him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And certain Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying, Is it right for a man to put away his wife for every cause? Then came some of the Pharisees to Him to put Him to the proof by the question, "Has a man a right to divorce his wife whenever he chooses?"
Matthew 19:4But he answering said [to them], Have ye not read that he who made [them], from the beginning made them male and female,And he said in answer, Have you not seen in the Writings, that he who made them at the first made them male and female, and said,"Have you not read," He replied, "that He who made them `made them' from the beginning `male and female,
Matthew 19:5and said, On account of this a man shall leave father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh? For this cause will a man go away from his father and mother, and be joined to his wife; and the two will become one flesh?and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one'?
Matthew 19:6so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Then let not that which has been joined by God be parted by man. Thus they are no longer two, but `one'! What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate."
Matthew 19:7They say to him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of divorce and to send [her] away? They say to him, Why then did Moses give orders that a husband might give her a statement in writing and be free from her?"Why then," said they, "did Moses command the husband to give her `a written notice of divorce,' and so put her away?"
Matthew 19:8He says to them, Moses, in view of your hardheartedness, allowed you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it was not thus.He says to them, Moses, because of your hard hearts, let you put away your wives: but it has not been so from the first."Moses," He replied, "in consideration of the hardness of your nature permitted you to put away your wives, but it has not been so from the beginning.
Matthew 19:9But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, not for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery; and he who marries one put away commits adultery. And I say to you, Whoever puts away his wife for any other cause than the loss of her virtue, and takes another, is a false husband: and he who takes her as his wife when she is put away, is no true husband to her.And I tell you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery."
Matthew 19:10His disciples say to him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. The disciples say to him, If this is the position of a man in relation to his wife, it is better not to be married."If this is the case with a man in relation to his wife," said the disciples to Him, "it is better not to marry."
Matthew 19:11And he said to them, All cannot receive this word, but those to whom it has been given; But he said to them, Not all men are able to take in this saying, but only those to whom it is given."It is not every man," He replied, "who can receive this teaching, but only those on whom the grace has been bestowed.
Matthew 19:12for there are eunuchs which have been born thus from [their] mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made eunuchs of themselves for the sake of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive [it], let him receive [it].For there are men who, from birth, were without sex: and there are some who were made so by men: and there are others who have made themselves so for the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to take it, let him take it.There are men who from their birth have been disabled from marriage, others who have been so disabled by men, and others who have disabled themselves for the sake of the Kingdom of the Heavens. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."
Matthew 19:13Then there were brought to him little children that he might lay his hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked them. Then some people took little children to him, so that he might put his hands on them in blessing: and the disciples said sharp words to them. Then young children were brought to Him for Him to put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples interfered.
Matthew 19:14But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and do not hinder them from coming to me; for the kingdom of the heavens is of such:But Jesus said, Let the little ones come to me, and do not keep them away: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.Jesus however said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for it is to those who are childlike that the Kingdom of the Heavens belongs."
Matthew 19:15and having laid his hands upon them, he departed thence. And he put his hands on them, and went away.So He laid His hands upon them and went away.
Matthew 19:16And lo, one coming up said to him, Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have life eternal? And one came to him and said, Master, what good thing have I to do, so that I may have eternal life?"Teacher," said one man, coming up to Him, "what that is good shall I do in order to win the Life of the Ages?"
Matthew 19:17And he said to him, What askest thou me concerning goodness? one is good. But if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. And he said to him, Why are you questioning me about what is good? One there is who is good: but if you have a desire to go into life, keep the rules of the law."Why do you ask me," He replied, "about what is good? There is only One who is truly good. But if you desire to enter into Life, keep the Commandments."
Matthew 19:18He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Do not put anyone to death, Do not be untrue in married life, Do not take what is not yours, Do not give false witness,"Which Commandments?" he asked. Jesus answered, "`Thou shalt not kill;' `Thou shalt not commit adultery;' `Thou shalt not steal;' `Thou shalt not lie in giving evidence;'
Matthew 19:19Honour thy father and thy mother, and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.Give honour to your father and your mother: and, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself.`Honour thy father and thy mother'; and `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'"
Matthew 19:20The young man says to him, All these have I kept; what lack I yet?The young man says to him, All these things have I done: what more is there?"All of these," said the young man, "I have carefully kept. What do I still lack?"
Matthew 19:21Jesus said to him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell what thou hast and give to [the] poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.Jesus said to him, If you have a desire to be complete, go, get money for your property, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven: and come after me."If you desire to be perfect," replied Jesus, "go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; and come, follow me."
Matthew 19:22But the young man, having heard the word, went away grieved, for he had large possessions. But hearing these words the young man went away sorrowing: for he had much property. On hearing those words the young man went away much cast down; for he had much property.
Matthew 19:23And Jesus said to his disciples, Verily I say unto you, A rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of the heavens; And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, It is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven. So Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly tell you that it is with difficulty that a rich man will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens.
Matthew 19:24and again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to enter a needle's eye than a rich man into the kingdom of God.And again I say to you, It is simpler for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.Yes, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."
Matthew 19:25And when the disciples heard [it] they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved? And the disciples, hearing this, were greatly surprised, saying, Who then may have salvation? These words utterly amazed the disciples, and they asked, "Who then can be saved?"
Matthew 19:26But Jesus, looking on [them], said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. And Jesus, looking at them, said, With men this is not possible; but with God all things are possible.Jesus looked at them and said, "With men this is impossible, but with God everything is possible."
Matthew 19:27Then Peter answering said to him, Behold, *we* have left all things and have followed thee; what then shall happen to us?Then Peter said to him, See, we have given up everything and have come after you; what then will we have? Then Peter said to Jesus, "See, *we* have forsaken everything and followed you; what then will be *our* reward?"
Matthew 19:28And Jesus said to them, Verily I say unto you, That *ye* who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit down upon his throne of glory, *ye* also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that in the time when all things are made new, and the Son of man is seated in his glory, you who have come after me will be seated on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."I solemnly tell you," replied Jesus, "that in the New Creation, when the Son of Man has taken His seat on His glorious throne, all of you who have followed me shall also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
Matthew 19:29And every one who has left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit life eternal. And everyone who has given up houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or child, or land, for my name, will be given a hundred times as much, and have eternal life. And whoever has forsaken houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or lands, for my sake, shall receive many times as much and shall have as his inheritance the Life of the Ages.
Matthew 19:30But many first shall be last, and last first. But a great number who are first will be last, and some who are last will be first."But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first.
