Matthew 6:1Take heed not to do your alms before men to be seen of them, otherwise ye have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.Take care not to do your good works before men, to be seen by them; or you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."Be careful that you don't do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 6:2When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.When then you give money to the poor, do not make a noise about it, as the false-hearted men do in the Synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly, I say to you, They have their reward.Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don't sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most assuredly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
Matthew 6:3But thou, when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand does;But when you give money, let not your left hand see what your right hand does:But when you do merciful deeds, don't let your left hand know what your right hand does,
Matthew 6:4so that thine alms may be in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.So that your giving may be in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Matthew 6:5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they should appear to men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.And when you make your prayers, be not like the false-hearted men, who take pleasure in getting up and saying their prayers in the Synagogues and at the street turnings so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward."When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most assuredly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
Matthew 6:6But *thou*, when thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render [it] to thee.But when you make your prayer, go into your private room, and, shutting the door, say a prayer to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.But you, when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Matthew 6:7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through their much speaking.And in your prayer do not make use of the same words again and again, as the Gentiles do: for they have the idea that God will give attention to them because of the number of their words.In praying, don't use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking.
Matthew 6:8Be not ye therefore like them, for your Father knows of what things ye have need before ye beg [anything] of him.So be not like them; because your Father has knowledge of your needs even before you make your requests to him.Therefore don't be like them, for your Father knows what things you need, before you ask him.
Matthew 6:9Thus therefore pray *ye*: Our Father who art in the heavens, let thy name be sanctified,Let this then be your prayer: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.Pray like this. 'Our Father, who is in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
Matthew 6:10let thy kingdom come, let thy will be done as in heaven so upon the earth;Let your kingdom come. Let your pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth.May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.
Matthew 6:11give us to-day our needed bread,Give us this day bread for our needs.Give us this day our daily bread.
Matthew 6:12and forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors,And make us free of our debts, as we have made those free who are in debt to us.Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
Matthew 6:13and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.And let us not be put to the test, but keep us safe from the Evil One.Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.'
Matthew 6:14For if ye forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father also will forgive you [yours],For if you let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will have forgiveness from your Father in heaven.For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Matthew 6:15but if ye do not forgive men their offences, neither will your Father forgive your offences.But if you do not let men have forgiveness for their sins, you will not have forgiveness from your Father for your sins.But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:16And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their faces, so that they may appear fasting to men: verily I say unto you, They have their reward.And when you go without food, be not sad-faced as the false-hearted are. For they go about with changed looks, so that men may see that they are going without food. Truly I say to you, They have their reward."Moreover when you fast, don't be, as the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most assuredly I tell you, they have received their reward.
Matthew 6:17But *thou*, [when] fasting, anoint thy head and wash thy face,But when you go without food, put oil on your head and make your face clean;But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
Matthew 6:18so that thou mayest not appear fasting unto men, but to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father who sees in secret shall render [it] to thee.So that no one may see that you are going without food, but your Father in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will give you your reward.that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:19Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust spoils, and where thieves dig through and steal;Make no store of wealth for yourselves on earth, where it may be turned to dust by worms and weather, and where thieves may come in by force and take it away."Don't lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal;
Matthew 6:20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not dig through nor steal;But make a store for yourselves in heaven, where it will not be turned to dust and where thieves do not come in to take it away:but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don't break through and steal;
Matthew 6:21for where thy treasure is, there will be also thy heart.For where your wealth is, there will your heart be.for where your treasure is, your heart will be there also.
Matthew 6:22The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body will be light:The light of the body is the eye; if then your eye is true, all your body will be full of light.The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.
Matthew 6:23but if thine eye be wicked, thy whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great the darkness!But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark. If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be!But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Matthew 6:24No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and will love the other, or he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.No man is able to be a servant to two masters: for he will have hate for the one and love for the other, or he will keep to one and have no respect for the other. You may not be servants of God and of wealth."No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. You can't serve both God and Mammon.
Matthew 6:25For this cause I say unto you, Do not be careful about your life, what ye should eat and what ye should drink; nor for your body what ye should put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?So I say to you, Take no thought for your life, about food or drink, or about clothing for your body. Is not life more than food, and the body more than its clothing?Therefore, I tell you, don't be anxious for your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will put on. Isn't life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:26Look at the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, nor reap, nor gather into granaries, and your heavenly Father nourishes them. Are *ye* not much more excellent than they?See the birds of heaven; they do not put seeds in the earth, they do not get in grain, or put it in store-houses; and your Father in heaven gives them food. Are you not of much more value than they?See the birds of the sky, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you of much more value than they?
Matthew 6:27But which of you by carefulness can add to his growth one cubit?And which of you by taking thought is able to make himself a cubit taller?Which of you, by being anxious, can add one cubit to the measure of his life?
Matthew 6:28And why are ye careful about clothing? Observe with attention the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin;And why are you troubled about clothing? See the flowers of the field, how they come up; they do no work, they make no thread:Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin,
Matthew 6:29but I say unto you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed as one of these.But I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
Matthew 6:30But if God so clothe the herbage of the field, which is to-day, and to-morrow is cast into [the] oven, will he not much rather you, O [ye] of little faith?But if God gives such clothing to the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is put into the oven, will he not much more give you clothing, O you of little faith?But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, won't he much more clothe you, you of little faith?
Matthew 6:31Be not therefore careful, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we put on?Then do not be full of care, saying, What are we to have for food or drink? or, With what may we be clothed?Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?'
Matthew 6:32for all these things the nations seek after; for your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.Because the Gentiles go in search of all these things: for your Father in heaven has knowledge that you have need of all these things:For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Matthew 6:33But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.But let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these other things will be given to you in addition.But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:34Be not careful therefore for the morrow, for the morrow shall be careful about itself. Sufficient to the day [is] its own evil.Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes.Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day's own evil is sufficient.
