Matthew 7:1 | Judge not, that ye may not be judged; | Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged. | "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. |
Matthew 7:2 | for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you. | For as you have been judging, so you will be judged, and with your measure will it be measured to you. | For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged: and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. |
Matthew 7:3 | But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye? | And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother's eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye? | Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:4 | Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Allow [me], I will cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine eye? | Or how will you say to your brother, Let me take out the grain of dust from your eye, when you yourself have a bit of wood in your eye? | Or how will you tell your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye;' and behold, the beam is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:5 | Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the mote out of the eye of thy brother. | You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother's eye. | You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye. |
Matthew 7:6 | Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them with their feet, and turning round rend you. | Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, or put your jewels before pigs, for fear that they will be crushed under foot by the pigs whose attack will then be made against you. | "Don't give that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. |
Matthew 7:7 | Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. | Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: | "Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. |
Matthew 7:8 | For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. | Because to everyone who makes a request, it will be given; and he who is searching will get his desire, and to him who gives the sign, the door will be open. | For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. |
Matthew 7:9 | Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; | Or which of you, if his son makes a request for bread, will give him a stone? | Or what man is there of you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? |
Matthew 7:10 | and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent? | Or if he makes a request for a fish, will give him a snake? | Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? |
Matthew 7:11 | If therefore *ye*, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him? | If you, then, being evil, are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who make requests to him? | If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! |
Matthew 7:12 | Therefore all things whatever ye desire that men should do to you, thus do *ye* also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. | All those things, then, which you would have men do to you, even so do you to them: because this is the law and the prophets. | Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. |
Matthew 7:13 | Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it. | Go in by the narrow door; for wide is the door and open is the way which goes to destruction, and great numbers go in by it. | Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. |
Matthew 7:14 | For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it. | For narrow is the door and hard the road to life, and only a small number make discovery of it. | How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it. |
Matthew 7:15 | But beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves. | Be on the watch for false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are cruel wolves. | "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. |
Matthew 7:16 | By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather a bunch of grapes from thorns, or from thistles figs? | By their fruits you will get knowledge of them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? | By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? |
Matthew 7:17 | So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits. | Even so, every good tree gives good fruit; but the bad tree gives evil fruit. | Even so, every good tree brings forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. |
Matthew 7:18 | A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits. | It is not possible for a good tree to give bad fruit, and a bad tree will not give good fruit. | A good tree can't bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. |
Matthew 7:19 | Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. | Every tree which does not give good fruit is cut down and put in the fire. | Every tree that doesn't grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. |
Matthew 7:20 | By their fruits then surely ye shall know them. | So by their fruits you will get knowledge of them. | Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. |
Matthew 7:21 | Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens. | Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of my Father in heaven. | Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. |
Matthew 7:22 | Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through *thy* name, and through *thy* name cast out demons, and through *thy* name done many works of power? | A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power? | Many will tell me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy by your name, by your name cast out demons, and by your name do many mighty works?' |
Matthew 7:23 | and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness. | And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil. | Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.' |
Matthew 7:24 | Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; | Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock; | "Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock. |
Matthew 7:25 | and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house, but it was not moved; because it was based on the rock. | The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn't fall, for it was founded on the rock. |
Matthew 7:26 | And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; | And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand; | Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn't do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand. |
Matthew 7:27 | and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great. | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall. | The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell and great was its fall." |
Matthew 7:28 | And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine, | And it came about, when Jesus had come to the end of these words, that the people were surprised at his teaching, | It happened, when Jesus had finished saying these things, that the multitudes were astonished at his teaching, |
Matthew 7:29 | for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes. | for he was teaching as one having authority, and not as their scribes. | for he taught them with authority, and not like the scribes. |
