Hebrews 2:1 | For this reason we should give heed more abundantly to the things [we have] heard, lest in any way we should slip away. | For this reason there is the more need for us to give attention to the things which have come to our ears, for fear that by chance we might be slipping away. | Because of this it behoveth [us] more abundantly to take heed to the things heard, lest we may glide aside, |
Hebrews 2:2 | For if the word which was spoken by angels was firm, and every transgression and disobedience received just retribution, | Because if the word which came through the angels was fixed, and in the past every evil act against God's orders was given its full punishment; | for if the word being spoken through messengers did become stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience did receive a just recompense, |
Hebrews 2:3 | how shall *we* escape if we have been negligent of so great salvation, which, having had its commencement in being spoken [of] by the Lord, has been confirmed to us by those who have heard; | What will come on us, if we do not give our minds to such a great salvation? a salvation of which our fathers first had knowledge through the words of the Lord, and which was made certain to us by those to whom his words came; | how shall we escape, having neglected so great salvation? which a beginning receiving to be spoken through the Lord by those having heard was confirmed to us, |
Hebrews 2:4 | God bearing, besides, witness with [them] to [it], both by signs and wonders, and various acts of power, and distributions of [the] Holy Spirit, according to his will? | And God was a witness with them, by signs and wonders, and by more than natural powers, and by his distribution of the Holy Spirit at his pleasure. | God also bearing joint-witness both with signs and wonders, and manifold powers, and distributions of the Holy Spirit, according to His will. |
Hebrews 2:5 | For he has not subjected to angels the habitable world which is to come, of which we speak; | For he did not make the angels rulers over the world to come, of which I am writing. | For not to messengers did He subject the coming world, concerning which we speak, |
Hebrews 2:6 | but one has testified somewhere, saying, What is man, that thou rememberest him, or son of man that thou visitest him? | But a certain writer has given his witness, saying, What is man, that you keep him in mind? what is the son of man, that you take him into account? | and one in a certain place did testify fully, saying, `What is man, that Thou art mindful of him, or a son of man, that Thou dost look after him? |
Hebrews 2:7 | Thou hast made him some little inferior to the angels; thou hast crowned him with glory and honour, [and hast set him over the works of thy hands;] | You made him a little lower than the angels; you gave him a crown of glory and honour, and made him ruler over all the works of your hands: | Thou didst make him some little less than messengers, with glory and honour Thou didst crown him, and didst set him over the works of Thy hands, |
Hebrews 2:8 | thou hast subjected all things under his feet. For in subjecting all things to him, he has left nothing unsubject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to *him*, | You put all things under his feet. For in making man the ruler over all things, God did not put anything outside his authority; though we do not see everything under him now. | all things Thou didst put in subjection under his feet,` for in the subjecting to him the all things, nothing did He leave to him unsubjected, and now not yet do we see the all things subjected to him, |
Hebrews 2:9 | but we see Jesus, who [was] made some little inferior to angels on account of the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; so that by the grace of God he should taste death for every thing. | But we see him who was made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, because he let himself be put to death so that by the grace of God he might undergo death for all men. | and him who was made some little less than messengers we see Jesus because of the suffering of the death, with glory and honour having been crowned, that by the grace of God for every one he might taste of death. |
Hebrews 2:10 | For it became him, for whom [are] all things, and by whom [are] all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make perfect the leader of their salvation through sufferings. | Because it was right for him, for whom and through whom all things have being, in guiding his sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation complete through pain. | For it was becoming to Him, because of whom [are] the all things, and through whom [are] the all things, many sons to glory bringing, the author of their salvation through sufferings to make perfect, |
Hebrews 2:11 | For both he that sanctifies and those sanctified [are] all of one; for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, | For he who makes holy and those who are made holy are all of one family; and for this reason it is no shame for him to give them the name of brothers, | for both he who is sanctifying and those sanctified [are] all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, |
Hebrews 2:12 | saying, I will declare thy name to my brethren; in [the] midst of [the] assembly will I sing thy praises. | Saying, I will give the knowledge of your name to my brothers, I will make a song of praise to you before the church. | saying, `I will declare Thy name to my brethren, in the midst of an assembly I will sing praise to Thee;` and again, `I will be trusting on Him;` |
Hebrews 2:13 | And again, I will trust in him. And again, Behold, I and the children which God has given me. | And again he says, I will put my faith in him. And again, See, I am here, and the children which God has given to me. | and again, `Behold I and the children that God did give to me.` |
Hebrews 2:14 | Since therefore the children partake of blood and flesh, he also, in like manner, took part in the same, that through death he might annul him who has the might of death, that is, the devil; | And because the children are flesh and blood, he took a body himself and became like them; so that by his death he might put an end to him who had the power of death, that is to say, the Evil One; | Seeing, then, the children have partaken of flesh and blood, he himself also in like manner did take part of the same, that through death he might destroy him having the power of death that is, the devil |
Hebrews 2:15 | and might set free all those who through fear of death through the whole of their life were subject to bondage. | And let those who all their lives were in chains because of their fear of death, go free. | and might deliver those, whoever, with fear of death, throughout all their life, were subjects of bondage, |
Hebrews 2:16 | For he does not indeed take hold of angels [by the hand], but he takes hold of the seed of Abraham. | For, truly, he does not take on the life of angels, but that of the seed of Abraham. | for, doubtless, of messengers it doth not lay hold, but of seed of Abraham it layeth hold, |
Hebrews 2:17 | Wherefore it behoved him in all things to be made like to [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people; | Because of this it was necessary for him to be made like his brothers in every way, so that he might be a high priest full of mercy and keeping faith in everything to do with God, making offerings for the sins of the people. | wherefore it did behove him in all things to be made like to the brethren, that he might become a kind and stedfast chief-priest in the things with God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people, |
Hebrews 2:18 | for, in that himself has suffered, being tempted, he is able to help those that are being tempted. | For having been put to the test himself, he is able to give help to others when they are tested. | for in that he suffered, himself being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. |
