Zephaniah 3:1 | Woe to her that is rebellious and corrupted, to the oppressing city! | Sorrow to her who is uncontrolled and unclean, the cruel town! | Wo [to] the rebellious and polluted, The oppressing city! |
Zephaniah 3:2 | She hearkened not to the voice; she received not correction; she confided not in Jehovah; she drew not near her God. | She gave no attention to the voice, she had no use for teaching, she put no faith in the Lord, she did not come near to her God. | She hath not hearkened to the voice, She hath not accepted instruction, In Jehovah she hath not trusted, Unto her God she hath not drawn near. |
Zephaniah 3:3 | Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves, that leave nothing for the morning. | Her rulers are like loud-voiced lions in her; her judges are wolves of the evening, crushing up the bones before the morning. | Her heads in her midst [are] roaring lions, Her judges [are] evening wolves, They have not gnawn the bone in the morning. |
Zephaniah 3:4 | Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law. | Her prophets are good-for-nothing persons, full of deceit: her priests have made the holy place unclean and have gone violently against the law. | Her prophets unstable men of treachery, Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, They have violated the law. |
Zephaniah 3:5 | The righteous Jehovah is in the midst of her: he doeth no wrong. Every morning doth he bring his judgment to light; it faileth not: but the unrighteous knoweth no shame. | The Lord in her is upright; he will not do evil; every morning he lets his righteousness be seen, he is unchanging; but the evil-doer has no sense of shame. | Jehovah [is] righteous in her midst, He doth not do perverseness, Morning by morning His judgment he giveth to the light, It hath not been lacking, And the perverse doth not know shame. |
Zephaniah 3:6 | I have cut off nations: their battlements are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant. | I have had the nations cut off, their towers are broken down; I have made their streets a waste so that no one goes through them: destruction has overtaken their towns, so that there is no man living in them. | I have cut off nations, Desolated have been their chief ones, I have laid waste their out-places without any passing by, Destroyed have been their cities, Without man, without inhabitant. |
Zephaniah 3:7 | I said, Only fear me, receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, howsoever I may punish her. But they rose early, they corrupted all their doings. | I said, Certainly you will go in fear of me, and come under my training, so that whatever I may send on her may not be cut off before her eyes: but they got up early and made all their works evil. | I have said: Only, ye do fear Me, Ye do accept instruction, And her habitation is not cut off, All that I have appointed for her, But they have risen early, They have corrupted all their doings. |
Zephaniah 3:8 | Therefore wait ye for me, saith Jehovah, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my determination is to assemble the nations, that I may gather the kingdoms together, to pour upon them mine indignation, all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. | For this reason, go on waiting for me, says the Lord, till the day when I come up as a witness: for my purpose is to send for the nations and to get the kingdoms together, so that I may let loose on them my passion, even all my burning wrath: for all the earth will be burned up in the fire of my bitter passion. | Therefore, wait for Me an affirmation of Jehovah, For the day of My rising for prey, For My judgment [is] to gather nations, To assemble kingdoms, To pour out on them Mine indignation, All the heat of Mine anger, For by the fire of My jealousy consumed is all the earth. |
Zephaniah 3:9 | For then will I turn to the peoples a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Jehovah, to serve him with one consent. | For then I will give the people a clean language, so that they may all make prayer to the Lord and be his servants with one mind. | For then do I turn unto peoples a pure lip, To call all of them by the name of Jehovah, To serve Him [with] one shoulder. |
Zephaniah 3:10 | From beyond the rivers of Cush my suppliants, the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine oblation. | From over the rivers of Ethiopia, and from the sides of the north, they will come to me with an offering. | From beyond the rivers of Cush, my supplicants, The daughter of My scattered ones, Do bring My present. |
Zephaniah 3:11 | In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me; for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that exult in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain. | In that day you will have no shame on account of all the things in which you did evil against me: for then I will take away from among you those who were lifted up in pride, and you will no longer be lifted up with pride in my holy mountain. | In that day thou art not ashamed because of any of thine actions, Wherewith thou hast transgressed against Me, For then do I turn aside from thy midst The exulting ones of thine excellency, And thou dost add no more to be haughty, In My holy mountain. |
Zephaniah 3:12 | And I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of Jehovah. | But I will still have among you a quiet and poor people, and they will put their faith in the name of the Lord. | And I have left in thy midst a people humble and poor, And they have trusted in the name of Jehovah. |
Zephaniah 3:13 | The remnant of Israel shall not work unrighteousness, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: but *they* shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid. | The rest of Israel will do no evil and say no false words; the tongue of deceit will not be seen in their mouth: for they will take their food and their rest, and no one will be a cause of fear to them. | The remnant of Israel do no perversity, nor speak lies, Nor found in their mouth is a deceitful tongue, For they have delight, and have lain down, And there is none troubling. |
Zephaniah 3:14 | Exult, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; rejoice and be glad with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem: | Make melody, O daughter of Zion; give a loud cry, O Israel; be glad and let your heart be full of joy, O daughter of Jerusalem. | Cry aloud, O daughter of Zion, shout, O Israel, Rejoice and exult with the whole heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. |
Zephaniah 3:15 | Jehovah hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy; the King of Israel, Jehovah, is in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more. | The Lord has taken away those who were judging you, he has sent your haters far away: the King of Israel, even the Lord, is among you: you will have no more fear of evil. | Jehovah hath turned aside thy judgments, He hath faced thine enemy, The king of Israel, Jehovah, [is] in thy midst, Thou seest evil no more. |
Zephaniah 3:16 | In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear not; Zion, let not thy hands be slack. | In that day it will be said to Jerusalem, Have no fear: O Zion, let not your hands be feeble. | In that day it is said to Jerusalem, `Fear not, O Zion, let not thy hands be feeble. |
Zephaniah 3:17 | Jehovah thy God is in thy midst, a mighty one that will save: he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will exult over thee with singing. | The Lord your God is among you, as a strong saviour: he will be glad over you with joy, he will make his love new again, he will make a song of joy over you as in the time of a holy feast. | Jehovah thy God [is] in thy midst, A mighty one doth save, He rejoiceth over thee with joy, He doth work in His love, He joyeth over thee with singing.` |
Zephaniah 3:18 | I will gather them that sorrow for the solemn assemblies, who were of thee: the reproach of it was a burden [unto them]. | I will take away your troubles, lifting up your shame from off you. | Mine afflicted from the appointed place I have gathered, from thee they have been, Bearing for her sake reproach. |
Zephaniah 3:19 | Behold, at that time I will deal with all them that afflict thee; and I will save her that halted, and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and a name in all the lands where they have been put to shame. | See, at that time I will put an end to all who have been troubling you: I will give salvation to her whose steps are uncertain, and get together her who has been sent in flight; and I will make them a cause of praise and an honoured name in all the earth, when I let their fate be changed. | Lo, I am dealing with all afflicting thee at that time, And I have saved the halting one, And the driven out ones I do gather, And have set them for a praise and for a name, In all the land of their shame. |
Zephaniah 3:20 | At that time will I bring you, yea, at the time that I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise, among all the peoples of the earth, when I shall turn again your captivity before your eyes, saith Jehovah. | At that time I will make you come in, at that time I will get you together: for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth when I let your fate be changed before your eyes, says the Lord. | At that time I bring you in, Even at the time of My assembling you, For I give you for a name, and for a praise, Among all peoples of the land, In My turning back [to] your captivity before your eyes, said Jehovah! |
