1st-Peter 4:1 | Christ, then, having suffered for us in [the] flesh, do *ye* also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in [the] flesh has done with sin, | Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sins: | Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; |
1st-Peter 4:2 | no longer to live the rest of [his] time in [the] flesh to men's lusts, but to God's will. | That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh , not after the desires of men, but according to the will of God. | that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. |
1st-Peter 4:3 | For the time past [is] sufficient [for us] to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries. | For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and unlawful worshipping of idols. | For we have spent enough of our past time living in doing the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries. |
1st-Peter 4:4 | Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously [of you]; | Wherein they think it strange, that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness, speaking evil of you. | They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming: |
1st-Peter 4:5 | who shall render account to him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead. | Who shall render account to him, who is ready to judge the living and the dead. | who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. |
1st-Peter 4:6 | For to this [end] were the glad tidings preached to [the] dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after [the] flesh, but live, as regards God, after [the] Spirit. | For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: that they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh; but may live according to God, in the Spirit. | For to this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit. |
1st-Peter 4:7 | But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers; | But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore, and watch in prayers. | But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer. |
1st-Peter 4:8 | but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins; | But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins. | And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins. |
1st-Peter 4:9 | hospitable one to another, without murmuring; | Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring, | Be hospitable one to another without grumbling. |
1st-Peter 4:10 | each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of [the] various grace of God. | As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. | According as each has received a gift, be ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the grace of God in its various forms. |
1st-Peter 4:11 | If any one speak as oracles of God; if any one minister as of strength which God supplies; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen. | If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any man minister, let him do it, as of the power, which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. | If any man speaks, let it be as it were oracles of God. If any man serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. |
1st-Peter 4:12 | Beloved, take not [as] strange the fire [of persecution] which has taken place amongst you for [your] trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you; | Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you; | Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. |
1st-Peter 4:13 | but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation. | But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. | But because you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also you may rejoice with exceeding joy. |
1st-Peter 4:14 | If ye are reproached in [the] name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you: [on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.] | If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory, and power of God, and that which is his Spirit, resteth upon you. | If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. |
1st-Peter 4:15 | Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters; | But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a railer, or a coveter of other men's things. | For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters. |
1st-Peter 4:16 | but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God in this name. | But if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. | But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. |
1st-Peter 4:17 | For the time of having the judgment begin from the house of God [is come]; but if first from us, what [shall be] the end of those who obey not the glad tidings of God? | For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God? | For the time [has come] for judgment to begin at the house of God. If it begins first at us, what will happen to those who don't obey the gospel of God? |
1st-Peter 4:18 | And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and [the] sinner appear? | And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? | "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?" |
1st-Peter 4:19 | Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator. | Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator. | Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator. |
