2nd-Peter 1:1 | Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ: | Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: | Simon Peter, a servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who with us have a part in the same holy faith in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ: |
2nd-Peter 1:2 | Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. | Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, | May grace and peace ever be increasing in you, in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; |
2nd-Peter 1:3 | As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue, | According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: | Because by his power he has given us everything necessary for life and righteousness, through the knowledge of him who has been our guide by his glory and virtue; |
2nd-Peter 1:4 | through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. | Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. | And through this he has given us the hope of great rewards highly to be valued; so that by them we might have our part in God's being, and be made free from the destruction which is in the world through the desires of the flesh. |
2nd-Peter 1:5 | But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge, | And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; | So, for this very cause, take every care; joining virtue to faith, and knowledge to virtue, |
2nd-Peter 1:6 | in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness, | And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; | And self-control to knowledge, and a quiet mind to self-control, and fear of God to a quiet mind, |
2nd-Peter 1:7 | in godliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love: | And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. | And love of the brothers to fear of God, and to love of the brothers, love itself. |
2nd-Peter 1:8 | for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; | For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. | For if you have these things in good measure, they will make you fertile and full of fruit in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:9 | for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins. | But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. | For the man who has not these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having no memory of how he was made clean from his old sins. |
2nd-Peter 1:10 | Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall; | Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: | For this reason, my brothers, take all the more care to make your selection and approval certain; for if you do these things you will never have a fall: |
2nd-Peter 1:11 | for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you. | For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. | For so the way will be open to you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:12 | Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth. | Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. | For this reason I will be ready at all times to keep your memory of these things awake, though you have the knowledge of them now and are well based in your present faith. |
2nd-Peter 1:13 | But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance, | Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; | And it seems right to me, as long as I am in this tent of flesh, to keep your minds awake by working on your memory; |
2nd-Peter 1:14 | knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me; | Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. | For I am conscious that in a short time I will have to put off this tent of flesh, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. |
2nd-Peter 1:15 | but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things. | Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. | And I will take every care so that you may have a clear memory of these things after my death. |
2nd-Peter 1:16 | For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty. | For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. | For when we gave you news of the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our teaching was not based on stories put together by art, but we were eye-witnesses of his glory. |
2nd-Peter 1:17 | For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight; | For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. | For God the Father gave him honour and glory, when such a voice came to him out of the great glory, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased. |
2nd-Peter 1:18 | and this voice *we* heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain. | And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. | And this voice came from heaven even to our ears, when we were with him on the holy mountain. |
2nd-Peter 1:19 | And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts; | We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: | And so the words of the prophets are made more certain; and it is well for you to give attention to them as to a light shining in a dark place, till the dawn comes and the morning star is seen in your hearts; |
2nd-Peter 1:20 | knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation, | Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. | Being conscious in the first place that no man by himself may give a special sense to the words of the prophets. |
2nd-Peter 1:21 | for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit. | For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. | For these words did not ever come through the impulse of men: but the prophets had them from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit. |
