Acts 14:1And it came to pass in Iconium that they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake that a great multitude of both Jews and Greeks believed.And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. Now in Iconium they went together to the Synagogue of the Jews and gave such teaching that a great number of Jews and Greeks had faith.
Acts 14:2But the Jews who did not believe stirred up the minds of [those of] the nations and made [them] evil-affected against the brethren.But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. But those Jews who had not the faith, made the minds of the Gentiles bitter against the brothers.
Acts 14:3They stayed therefore a good while, speaking boldly, [confiding] in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace, giving signs and wonders to be done by their hands.Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. So they kept there for a long time, taking heart in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace by causing signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Acts 14:4And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews and some with the apostles.But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. But there was a division among the people of the town; some were on the side of the Jews and some on the side of the Apostles.
Acts 14:5And when an assault was making, both of [those of] the nations and [the] Jews with their rulers, to use [them] ill and stone them,And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them, And when a violent attempt was made by the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, to make an attack on them and have them stoned,
Acts 14:6they, being aware of it, fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding country,They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about:
Acts 14:7and there they were announcing the glad tidings.And there they preached the gospel. And went on preaching the good news there.
Acts 14:8And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in his feet, sat, [being] lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked.And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: And at Lystra there was a certain man, who from birth had been without the use of his feet, never having had the power of walking.
Acts 14:9This [man] heard Paul speaking, who, fixing his eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, This man was giving ear to the preaching of Paul, who, looking at him, and seeing that he had faith to be made well,
Acts 14:10said with a loud voice, Rise up straight upon thy feet: and he sprang up and walked.Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about.
Acts 14:11But the crowds, who saw what Paul had done, lifted up their voices in Lycaonian, saying, The gods, having made themselves like men, are come down to us.And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they said in a loud voice, in the language of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the form of men.
Acts 14:12And they called Barnabas Jupiter, and Paul Mercury, because he took the lead in speaking.And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. And they gave the name of Jupiter to Barnabas, and to Paul that of Mercury, because he was the chief talker.
Acts 14:13And the priest of Jupiter who was before the city, having brought bulls and garlands to the gates, would have done sacrifice along with the crowds.Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. And the priest of the image of Jupiter, which was before the town, took oxen and flowers to the doors of the town, and was about to make an offering with the people.
Acts 14:14But the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having heard [it], rent their garments, and rushed out to the crowd, cryingWhich when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, But when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out,
Acts 14:15and saying, Men, why do ye these things? *We* also are men of like passions with you, preaching to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things in them;And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Good people, why are you doing these things? We are men with the same feelings as you, and we give you the good news so that you may be turned away from these foolish things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all things in them:
Acts 14:16who in the past generations suffered all the nations to go in their own ways,Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. Who in the past let all nations go in the ways which seemed good to them.
Acts 14:17though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. But he was not without witness, because he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and times of fruit, making your hearts full of food and joy.
Acts 14:18And saying these things, they with difficulty kept the crowds from sacrificing to them.And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them. And even with these words, it was hard for them to keep the people from making an offering to them.
Acts 14:19But there came Jews from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to have died.And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. But some Jews came to that place from Antioch and Iconium, and got control over the people; and after stoning Paul, they had him pulled out of the town, taking him for dead.
Acts 14:20But while the disciples encircled him, he rose up and entered into the city. And on the morrow he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. But when the disciples came round him, he got up and went into the town: and the day after he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.
Acts 14:21And having announced the glad tidings to that city, and having made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, And having made a number of disciples through the preaching of the good news in that town, they went back to Lystra and Iconium and Antioch,
Acts 14:22establishing the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to abide in the faith, and that through many tribulations we must enter into the kingdom of God.Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Making strong the souls of the disciples, saying to them that they were to keep the faith, and that we have to go through troubles of all sorts to come into the kingdom of God.
Acts 14:23And having chosen them elders in each assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. And when they had made selection of some to be rulers in every church, and had given themselves to prayer and kept themselves from food, they put them into the care of the Lord in whom they had faith.
Acts 14:24And having passed through Pisidia they came to Pamphylia,And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. And they went through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.
Acts 14:25and having spoken the word in Perga, they came down to Attalia;And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia: And, after preaching the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia;
Acts 14:26and thence they sailed away to Antioch, whence they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled.And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. And from there they went by ship to Antioch, where they had been handed over to the grace of God for the work which they had not done.
Acts 14:27And having arrived, and having brought together the assembly, they related to them all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. And when they came there, and had got the church together, they gave them an account of all the things which God had done through them, and how he had made open a door of faith to the Gentiles.
Acts 14:28And they stayed no little time with the disciples.And there they abode long time with the disciples. And they were with the disciples there for a long time.
