Exodus 20:1 | And God spoke all these words, saying, | And God spake all these words, saying, | And God said all these words: |
Exodus 20:2 | I am Jehovah thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. | I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. | I am the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house. |
Exodus 20:3 | Thou shalt have no other gods before me. | Thou shalt have no other gods before me. | You are to have no other gods but me. |
Exodus 20:4 | Thou shalt not make thyself any graven image, or any form of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the earth beneath, or what is in the waters under the earth: | Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: | You are not to make an image or picture of anything in heaven or on the earth or in the waters under the earth: |
Exodus 20:5 | thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah thy God, am a jealous ùGod, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and to the fourth [generation] of them that hate me, | Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; | You may not go down on your faces before them or give them worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters; |
Exodus 20:6 | and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. | And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. | And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those who have love for me and keep my laws. |
Exodus 20:7 | Thou shalt not idly utter the name of Jehovah thy God; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his name. | Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. | You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose will be judged a sinner by the Lord |
Exodus 20:8 | Remember the sabbath day to hallow it. | Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. | Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day. |
Exodus 20:9 | Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work; | Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: | On six days do all your work: |
Exodus 20:10 | but the seventh day is the sabbath of Jehovah thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. | But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: | But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: |
Exodus 20:11 | For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. | For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. | For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy. |
Exodus 20:12 | Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be prolonged in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee. | Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. | Give honour to your father and to your mother, so that your life may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. |

Exodus 20:18 | And all the people saw the thunderings, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw [it], they trembled, and stood afar off, | And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. | And all the people were watching the thunderings and the flames and the sound of the horn and the mountain smoking; and when they saw it, they kept far off, shaking with fear. |
Exodus 20:19 | and said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die. | And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. | And they said to Moses, To your words we will give ear, but let not the voice of God come to our ears, for fear death may come on us. |
Exodus 20:20 | And Moses said to the people, Fear not; for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not. | And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. | And Moses said to the people, Have no fear: for God has come to put you to the test, so that fearing him you may be kept from sin. |
Exodus 20:21 | And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the obscurity where God was. | And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. | And the people kept their places far off, but Moses went near to the dark cloud where God was. |

Exodus 20:23 | Ye shall not make beside me gods of silver, and ye shall not make to you gods of gold. | Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold. | Gods of silver and gods of gold you are not to make for yourselves. |
Exodus 20:24 | An altar of earth shalt thou make unto me, and shalt sacrifice on it thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen: in all places where I shall make my name to be remembered, I will come unto thee, and bless thee. | An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. | Make for me an altar of earth, offering on it your burned offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen: in every place where I have put the memory of my name, I will come to you and give you my blessing. |
Exodus 20:25 | And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone; for if thou lift up thy sharp tool upon it, thou hast profaned it. | And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. | And if you make me an altar of stone do not make it of cut stones: for the touch of an instrument will make it unclean. |
Exodus 20:26 | Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. | Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. | And do not go up by steps to my altar, for fear that your bodies may be seen uncovered. |
