1st-Peter 1:2elect according to [the] foreknowledge of God [the] Father, by sanctification of [the] Spirit, unto [the] obedience and sprinkling of [the] blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. chosen in accordance with the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, with a view to their obedience and to their being sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. May more and more grace and peace be granted to you.
1st-Peter 1:3Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his great mercy, has begotten us again to a living hope through [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ from among [the] dead,Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in His great mercy has begotten us anew to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1st-Peter 1:4to an incorruptible and undefiled and unfading inheritance, reserved in [the] heavens for you,To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, to an inheritance imperishable, undefiled and unfading, which has been reserved in Heaven for you,
1st-Peter 1:5who are kept guarded by [the] power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in [the] last time.Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. whom God in His power is guarding through faith for a salvation that even now stands ready for unveiling at the End of the Age.
1st-Peter 1:6Wherein ye exult, for a little while at present, if needed, put to grief by various trials,Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: Rejoice triumphantly in the prospect of this, even if now, for a short time, you are compelled to sorrow amid various trials.
1st-Peter 1:7that the proving of your faith, much more precious than of gold which perishes, though it be proved by fire, be found to praise and glory and honour in [the] revelation of Jesus Christ:That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: The sorrow comes in order that the testing of your faith being more precious than that of gold, which perishes and yet is proved by fire may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
1st-Peter 1:8whom, having not seen, ye love; on whom [though] not now looking, but believing, ye exult with joy unspeakable and filled with [the] glory,Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Him you love, though your eyes have never looked on Him. In Him, though at present you cannot see Him, you nevertheless trust, and triumph with a joy which is unspeakable and is crowned with glory,
1st-Peter 1:9receiving the end of your faith, [the] salvation of [your] souls.Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. while you are securing as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.
1st-Peter 1:10Concerning which salvation prophets, who have prophesied of the grace towards you, sought out and searched out;Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: There were Prophets who earnestly inquired about that salvation, and closely searched into it even those who spoke beforehand of the grace which was to come to you.
1st-Peter 1:11searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ which [was] in them pointed out, testifying before of the sufferings which [belonged] to Christ, and the glories after these.Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. They were eager to know the time which the Spirit of Christ within them kept indicating, or the characteristics of that time, when they solemnly made known beforehand the sufferings that were to come upon Christ and the glories which would follow.
1st-Peter 1:12To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves but to you they ministered those things, which have now been announced to you by those who have declared to you the glad tidings by [the] Holy Spirit, sent from heaven, which angels desire to look into.Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. To them it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you, when they foretold the very things which have now been openly declared to you by those who, having been taught by the Holy Spirit which had been sent from Heaven, brought you the Good News. Angels long to stoop and look into these things.
1st-Peter 1:13Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, [be] sober [and] hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace [which will be] brought to you at [the] revelation of Jesus Christ;Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; Therefore gird up your minds and fix your hopes calmly and unfalteringly upon the boon that is soon to be yours, at the re-appearing of Jesus Christ.
1st-Peter 1:14as children of obedience, not conformed to [your] former lusts in your ignorance; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: And, since you delight in obedience, do not shape your lives by the cravings which used to dominate you in the time of your ignorance,
1st-Peter 1:15but as he who has called you is holy, be ye also holy in all [your] conversation; But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; but in imitation of the holy One who has called you you also must be holy in all your habits of life.
1st-Peter 1:16because it is written, Be ye holy, for *I* am holy.Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Because it stands written, "You are to be holy, because I am holy."
1st-Peter 1:17And if ye invoke as Father him who, without regard of persons, judges according to the work of each, pass your time of sojourn in fear,And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: And if you address as your Father Him who judges impartially in accordance with each man's actions, then spend in fear the time of your stay here on earth,
1st-Peter 1:18knowing that ye have been redeemed, not by corruptible [things, as] silver or gold, from your vain conversation handed down from [your] fathers,Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; knowing, as you do, that it was not with a ransom of perishable wealth, such as silver or gold, that you were set free from your frivolous habits of life which had been handed down to you from your forefathers,
1st-Peter 1:19but by precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, [the blood] of Christ,But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: but with the precious blood of Christ as of an unblemished and spotless lamb.
1st-Peter 1:20foreknown indeed before [the] foundation of [the] world, but who has been manifested at the end of times for your sakes,Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, He was pre-destined indeed to this work, even before the creation of the world, but has been plainly manifested in these last days for the sake of you who, through Him,
1st-Peter 1:21who by him do believe on God, who has raised him from among [the] dead and given him glory, that your faith and hope should be in God.Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. are faithful to God, who raised Him from among the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are resting upon God.
1st-Peter 1:22Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth to unfeigned brotherly love, love one another out of a pure heart fervently;Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Now that, through your obedience to the truth, you have purified your souls for cherishing sincere brotherly love, you must love another heartily and fervently.
1st-Peter 1:23being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by [the] living and abiding word of God.Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For you have been begotten again by God's ever-living and enduring word from a germ not of perishable, but of imperishable life.
1st-Peter 1:24Because all flesh [is] as grass, and all its glory as [the] flower of grass. The grass has withered and [its] flower has fallen;For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: "All mankind resemble the herbage, and all their beauty is like its flowers. The herbage dries up, and its flowers drop off;
1st-Peter 1:25but the word of [the] Lord abides for eternity. But this is the word which in the glad tidings [is] preached to you.But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. But the word of the Lord remains for ever." And that means the Message which has been proclaimed among you in the Good News.
