Ephesians 5:1Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; Therefore be imitators of God, as His dear children.
Ephesians 5:2and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. And live and act lovingly, as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up to death on our behalf as an offering and sacrifice to God, yielding a fragrant odor.
Ephesians 5:3But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; But fornication and every kind of impurity, or covetousness, let them not even be mentioned among you, for they ought not to be named among God's people.
Ephesians 5:4and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. Avoid shameful and foolish talk and low jesting they are all alike discreditable and in place of these give thanks.
Ephesians 5:5For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. For be well assured that no fornicator or immoral person and no money-grubber or in other words idol-worshipper has any share awaiting him in the Kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 5:6Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is on account of these very sins that God's anger is coming upon the disobedient.
Ephesians 5:7Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;Be not ye therefore partakers with them. Therefore do not become sharers with them.
Ephesians 5:8for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light,For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: There was a time when you were nothing but darkness. Now, as Christians, you are Light itself.
Ephesians 5:9(for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Live and act as sons of Light for the effect of the Light is seen in every kind of goodness, uprightness and truth
Ephesians 5:10proving what is agreeable to the Lord;Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. and learn in your own experiences what is fully pleasing to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:11and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them],And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Have nothing to do with the barren unprofitable deeds of darkness, but, instead of that, set your faces against them;
Ephesians 5:12for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. for the things which are done by these people in secret it is disgraceful even to speak of.
Ephesians 5:13But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. But everything can be tested by the light and thus be shown in its true colors; for whatever shines of itself is light.
Ephesians 5:14Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. For this reason it is said, "Rise, sleeper; rise from among the dead, and Christ will shed light upon you."
Ephesians 5:15See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Therefore be very careful how you live and act. Let it not be as unwise men, but as wise.
Ephesians 5:16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Buy up your opportunities, for these are evil times.
Ephesians 5:17For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord.Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. On this account do not prove yourselves wanting in sense, but try to understand what the Lord's will is.
Ephesians 5:18And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Do not over-indulge in wine a thing in which excess is so easy
Ephesians 5:19speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; but drink deeply of God's Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and offer praise in your hearts to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:20giving thanks at all times for all things to him [who is] God and [the] Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Always and for everything let your thanks to God the Father be presented in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Ephesians 5:21submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ.Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:22Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord,Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Married women, submit to your own husbands as if to the Lord;
Ephesians 5:23for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body.For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. because a husband is the Head of his wife as Christ also is the Head of the Church, being indeed the Saviour of this His Body.
Ephesians 5:24But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. And just as the Church submits to Christ, so also married women should be entirely submissive to their husbands.
Ephesians 5:25Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Married men, love your wives, as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up to death for her;
Ephesians 5:26in order that he might sanctify it, purifying [it] by the washing of water by [the] word,That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, in order to make her holy, cleansing her with the baptismal water by the word,
Ephesians 5:27that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. that He might present the Church to Himself a glorious bride, without spot or wrinkle or any other defect, but to be holy and unblemished.
Ephesians 5:28So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. So too married men ought to love their wives as much as they love themselves. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:29For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For never yet has a man hated his own body. On the contrary he feeds and cherishes it, just as Christ feeds and cherishes the Church;
Ephesians 5:30for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.]For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. because we are, as it were, parts of His Body.
Ephesians 5:31Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. "For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be as one."
Ephesians 5:32This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. That is a great truth hitherto kept secret: I mean the truth concerning Christ and the Church.
Ephesians 5:33But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife [I speak] that she may fear the husband.Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Yet I insist that among you also, each man is to love his own wife as much as he loves himself, and let a married woman see to it that she treats her husband with respect.
