Matthew 17:1And after six days Jesus takes with [him] Peter, and James, and John his brother, and brings them up into a high mountain apart.And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
Matthew 17:2And he was transfigured before them. And his face shone as the sun, and his garments became white as the light;And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as the light.
Matthew 17:3and lo, Moses and Elias appeared to them talking with him.And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
Matthew 17:4And Peter answering said to Jesus, Lord, it is good we should be here. If thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles: for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elias.Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Peter answered, and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let's make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
Matthew 17:5While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, *This* is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him.While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."
Matthew 17:6And the disciples hearing [it] fell upon their faces, and were greatly terrified.And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
Matthew 17:7And Jesus coming to [them] touched them, and said, Rise up, and be not terrified.And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. Jesus came and touched them and said, "Get up, and don't be afraid."
Matthew 17:8And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus alone.And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.
Matthew 17:9And as they descended from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, until the Son of man be risen up from among [the] dead.And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Don't tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead."
Matthew 17:10And [his] disciples demanded of him saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first have come?And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? His disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
Matthew 17:11And he answering said to them, Elias indeed comes first and will restore all things.And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. Jesus answered them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,
Matthew 17:12But I say unto you that Elias has already come, and they have not known him, but have done unto him whatever they would. Thus also the Son of man is about to suffer from them.But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn't recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so will the Son of Man also suffer by them."
Matthew 17:13Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the baptist.Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.
Matthew 17:14And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, falling on his knees before him, and saying,And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, When they came to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him, saying,
Matthew 17:15Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic, and suffers sorely; for often he falls into the fire and often into the water.Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
Matthew 17:16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him.And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him."
Matthew 17:17And Jesus answering said, O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me.Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me."
Matthew 17:18And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out from him, and the boy was healed from that hour.And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
Matthew 17:19Then the disciples, coming to Jesus apart, said [to him], Why were not *we* able to cast him out?Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, "Why couldn't we cast it out?"
Matthew 17:20And he says to them, Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard [seed], ye shall say to this mountain, Be transported hence there, and it shall transport itself; and nothing shall be impossible to you.And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. He said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For most assuredly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
Matthew 17:21But this kind does not go out but by prayer and fasting.Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. But this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting."
Matthew 17:22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man is about to be delivered up into [the] hands of men,And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
Matthew 17:23and they shall kill him; and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were greatly grieved.And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry. and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up." They were exceedingly sorry.
Matthew 17:24And when they came to Capernaum, those who received the didrachmas came to Peter and said, Does your teacher not pay the didrachmas?And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute? When they were come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachmas came to Peter, and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the didrachma?"
Matthew 17:25He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What dost thou think, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive custom or tribute? from their own sons or from strangers?He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their sons, or from strangers?"
Matthew 17:26Peter says to him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free.Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. Peter said to him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Therefore the sons are exempt.
Matthew 17:27But that we may not be an offence to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when thou hast opened its mouth thou wilt find a stater; take that and give it to them for me and thee.Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened his mouth, you will find a stater. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."
