Matthew 4:1 | Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil: | Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. | Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil, |
Matthew 4:2 | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. | And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger. |

Matthew 4:4 | But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth. | But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. | But he answering said, `It hath been written, Not upon bread alone doth man live, but upon every word coming forth from the mouth of God.` |
Matthew 4:5 | Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple, | Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, | Then doth the Devil take him to the [holy] city, and doth set him on the pinnacle of the temple, |
Matthew 4:6 | and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone. | And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. | and saith to him, `If Son thou art of God cast thyself down, for it hath been written, that, His messengers He shall charge concerning thee, and on hands they shall bear thee up, that thou mayest not dash on a stone thy foot.` |
