Luke 3:2 | in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, [the] word of God came upon John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness. | during the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, a message from God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the Desert. | in the highpriesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. |
Luke 3:3 | And he came into all the district round the Jordan, preaching [the] baptism of repentance for [the] remission of sins, | John went into all the district about the Jordan proclaiming a baptism of the penitent for the forgiveness of sins; | And he came into all the region round about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins; |
Luke 3:4 | as it is written in [the] book of [the] words of Esaias the prophet: Voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of [the] Lord, make straight his paths. | as it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one crying aloud! `In the Desert prepare ye a road for the Lord: make His highway straight. | as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. |
Luke 3:5 | Every gorge shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked [places] shall become a straight [path], and the rough places smooth ways, | Every ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill levelled down, the crooked places shall be turned into straight roads, and the rugged ways into smooth; | Every valley shall be filled, And every mountain and hill shall be brought low; And the crooked shall become straight, And the rough ways smooth; |
Luke 3:6 | and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. | and then shall all mankind see God's salvation.'" | And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. |
Luke 3:7 | He said therefore to the crowds which went out to be baptised by him, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath? | Accordingly John used to say to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "O vipers' brood, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath? | He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? |
Luke 3:8 | Produce therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say in yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father, for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. | Live lives which shall prove your change of heart; and do not begin to say to yourselves, `We have Abraham as our forefather,' for I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones. | Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. |
Luke 3:9 | And already also the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into [the] fire. | And even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which fails to yield good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire." | And even now the axe also lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. |
Luke 3:10 | And the crowds asked him saying, What should we do then? | The crowds repeatedly asked him, "What then are we to do?" | And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do? |
Luke 3:11 | And he answering says to them, He that has two body-coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise. | "Let the man who has two coats," he answered, "give one to the man who has none; and let the man who has food share it with others." | And he answered and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise. |
Luke 3:12 | And tax-gatherers came also to be baptised, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do? | There came also a party of tax-gatherers to be baptized, and they asked him, "Rabbi, what are we to do?" | And there came also publicans to be baptized, and they said unto him, Teacher, what must we do? |
Luke 3:13 | And he said to them, Take no more [money] than what is appointed to you. | "Do not exact more than the legal amount," he replied. | And he said unto them, Extort no more than that which is appointed you. |
Luke 3:14 | And persons engaged in military service also asked him saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Oppress no one, nor accuse falsely, and be satisfied with your pay. | The soldiers also once and again inquired of him, "And we, what are we to do?" His answer was, "Neither intimidate any one nor lay false charges; and be content with your pay." | And soldiers also asked him, saying, And we, what must we do? And he said unto them, Extort from no man by violence, neither accuse [any one] wrongfully; and be content with your wages. |
Luke 3:15 | But as the people were in expectation, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John whether *he* might be the Christ, | And while the people were in suspense and all were debating in their minds whether John might possibly be the Anointed One, | And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; |
Luke 3:16 | John answered all, saying, *I* indeed baptise you with water, but the mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to unloose; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire; | he answered the question by saying to them all, "As for me, I am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose very sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten: He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire. | John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: |
Luke 3:17 | whose winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. | His winnowing-shovel is in His hand to clear out His threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into His storehouse; but the chaff He will burn up in fire unquenchable." | whose fan is in his hand, thoroughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. |
Luke 3:18 | Exhorting then many other things also he announced [his] glad tidings to the people. | With many exhortations besides these he declared the Good News to the people. | With many other exhortations therefore preached he good tidings unto the people; |
