Matthew 25:1 | Then shall the kingdom of the heavens be made like to ten virgins that having taken their torches, went forth to meet the bridegroom. | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. | Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. |
Matthew 25:2 | And five of them were prudent and five foolish. | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. | And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. |
Matthew 25:3 | They that were foolish took their torches and did not take oil with them; | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; | For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them: |
Matthew 25:4 | but the prudent took oil in their vessels with their torches. | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. | but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. |
Matthew 25:5 | Now the bridegroom tarrying, they all grew heavy and slept. | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. | Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. |
Matthew 25:6 | But in [the] middle of [the] night there was a cry, Behold, the bridegroom; go forth to meet him. | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' | But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him. |
Matthew 25:7 | Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their torches. | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. | Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. |
Matthew 25:8 | And the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, for our torches are going out. | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' | And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out. |
Matthew 25:9 | But the prudent answered saying, [We cannot,] lest it might not suffice for us and for you. Go rather to those that sell, and buy for yourselves. | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' | But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. |
Matthew 25:10 | But as they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and the [ones that were] ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut. | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. | And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut. |
Matthew 25:11 | Afterwards come also the rest of the virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' | Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. |
Matthew 25:12 | but he answering said, Verily I say unto you, I do not know you. | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' | But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. |
Matthew 25:13 | Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour. | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. | Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour. |
Matthew 25:14 | For [it is] as [if] a man going away out of a country called his own bondmen and delivered to them his substance. | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. | For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. |
Matthew 25:15 | And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to each according to his particular ability, and immediately went away out of the country. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. | And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey. |
Matthew 25:16 | And he that had received the five talents went and trafficked with them, and made five other talents. | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. | Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. |
Matthew 25:17 | In like manner also he that [had received] the two, [he also] gained two others. | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. | In like manner he also that [received] the two gained other two. |
Matthew 25:18 | But he that had received the one went and dug in the earth, and hid the money of his lord. | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. | But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. |
Matthew 25:19 | And after a long time the lord of those bondmen comes and reckons with them. | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. | Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them. |
Matthew 25:20 | And he that had received the five talents came to [him] and brought five other talents, saying, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me five talents; behold, I have gained five other talents besides them. | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' | And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents. |
Matthew 25:21 | His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter into the joy of thy lord. | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:22 | And he also that had received the two talents came to [him] and said, [My] lord, thou deliveredst me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents besides them. | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' | And he also that [received] the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents. |
Matthew 25:23 | His lord said to him, Well, good and faithful bondman, thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. |
Matthew 25:24 | And he also that had received the one talent coming to [him] said, [My] lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hadst not sowed, and gathering from where thou hadst not scattered, | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. | And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter; |
Matthew 25:25 | and being afraid I went away and hid thy talent in the earth; behold, thou hast that which is thine. | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' | and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own. |
Matthew 25:26 | And his lord answering said to him, Wicked and slothful bondman, thou knewest that I reap where I had not sowed, and gather from where I had not scattered; | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? | But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter; |
Matthew 25:27 | thou oughtest then to have put my money to the money-changers, and when I came I should have got what is mine with interest. | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. | thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest. |
Matthew 25:28 | Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that has the ten talents: | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' | Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents. |
Matthew 25:29 | for to every one that has shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but from him that has not, that even which he has shall be taken from him. | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) | For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. |
Matthew 25:30 | And cast out the useless bondman into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' | And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. |
Matthew 25:31 | But when the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit down upon his throne of glory, | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, | But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory: |
Matthew 25:32 | and all the nations shall be gathered before him; and he shall separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats; |
Matthew 25:33 | and he will set the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on [his] left. | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. | and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. |
Matthew 25:34 | Then shall the King say to those on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from [the] world's foundation: | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. | Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: |
Matthew 25:35 | for I hungered, and ye gave me to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; | for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; |
Matthew 25:36 | naked, and ye clothed me; I was ill, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came to me. | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' | naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. |
Matthew 25:37 | Then shall the righteous answer him saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, and nourished thee; or thirsting, and gave thee to drink? | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? | Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | and when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in; or naked, and clothed thee? | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? | And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? |
Matthew 25:39 | and when saw we thee ill, or in prison, and came to thee? | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' | And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? |
Matthew 25:40 | And the King answering shall say to them, Verily, I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me. | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' | And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, [even] these least, ye did it unto me. |
Matthew 25:41 | Then shall he say also to those on the left, Go from me, cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. | Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels: |
Matthew 25:42 | for I hungered, and ye gave me not to eat; I thirsted, and ye gave me not to drink; | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; | for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye did not clothe me; ill, and in prison, and ye did not visit me. | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' | I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. |
Matthew 25:44 | Then shall *they* also answer saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or ill, or in prison, and have not ministered to thee? | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' | Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? |
Matthew 25:45 | Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have not done it to one of these least, neither have ye done it to me. | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' | Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. |
Matthew 25:46 | And these shall go away into eternal punishment, and the righteous into life eternal. | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." | And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life. |
