| Matthew 17:1 | And after six days Jesus takes with [him] Peter, and James, and John his brother, and brings them up into a high mountain apart. | Six day later, Jesus took with Him Peter and the brothers James and John, and brought them up a high mountain to a solitary place. | And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and makes them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves. |
| Matthew 17:2 | And he was transfigured before them. And his face shone as the sun, and his garments became white as the light; | There in their presence His form underwent a change; His face shone like the sun, and His raiment became as white as the light. | And he was changed in form before them; and his face was shining like the sun, and his clothing became white as light. |
| Matthew 17:3 | and lo, Moses and Elias appeared to them talking with him. | And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them conversing with Him. | And Moses and Elijah came before their eyes, talking with him. |
| Matthew 17:4 | And Peter answering said to Jesus, Lord, it is good we should be here. If thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles: for thee one, and for Moses one, and one for Elias. | Then Peter said to Jesus, "Master, we are thankful to you that we are here. If you approve, I will put up three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." | And Peter made answer and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will let me, I will make here three tents, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. |
| Matthew 17:5 | While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying, *This* is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight: hear him. | He was still speaking when a luminous cloud spread over them; and a voice was heard from within the cloud, which said, "This is My Son dearly beloved, in whom is My delight. Listen to Him." | While he was still talking, a bright cloud came over them: and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased; give ear to him. |
| Matthew 17:6 | And the disciples hearing [it] fell upon their faces, and were greatly terrified. | On hearing this voice, the disciples fell on their faces and were filled with terror. | And at these words the disciples went down on their faces in great fear. |
| Matthew 17:7 | And Jesus coming to [them] touched them, and said, Rise up, and be not terrified. | But Jesus came and touched them, and said, "Rouse yourselves and have no fear." | And Jesus came and put his hand on them and said, Get up and have no fear. |
| Matthew 17:8 | And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus alone. | So they looked up, and saw no one but Jesus. | And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. |
| Matthew 17:9 | And as they descended from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, until the Son of man be risen up from among [the] dead. | As they were descending the mountain, Jesus laid a command upon them. "Tell no one," He said, "of the sight you have seen till the Son of Man has risen from among the dead." | And when they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus gave them orders, saying, Let no man have word of what you have seen, till the Son of man has come again from the dead. |
| Matthew 17:10 | And [his] disciples demanded of him saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first have come? | "Why then," asked the disciples, "do the Scribes say that Elijah must first come?" | And his disciples, questioning him, said, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first? |
| Matthew 17:11 | And he answering said to them, Elias indeed comes first and will restore all things. | "Elijah was indeed to come," He replied, "and would reform everything. | And in answer he said, Elijah truly has to come and put all things right: |
| Matthew 17:12 | But I say unto you that Elias has already come, and they have not known him, but have done unto him whatever they would. Thus also the Son of man is about to suffer from them. | But I tell you that he has already come, and they did not recognize him, but dealt with him as they chose. And before long the Son of Man will be treated by them in a similar way." | But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they had no knowledge of him, but did to him whatever they were pleased to do; the same will the Son of man undergo at their hands. |
| Matthew 17:13 | Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the baptist. | Then it dawned upon the disciples that it was John the Baptist about whom He had spoken to them. | Then the disciples saw that he was talking to them of John the Baptist. |
| Matthew 17:14 | And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, falling on his knees before him, and saying, | When they had returned to the people, there came to Him a man who fell on his knees before Him and besought Him. | And when they came to the people, a man went down on his knees to him, saying, |
| Matthew 17:15 | Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic, and suffers sorely; for often he falls into the fire and often into the water. | "Sir," he said, "have pity on my son, for he is an epileptic and is very ill. Often he falls into the fire and often into the water. | Lord have mercy on my son: for he is off his head, and is in great pain; and frequently he goes falling into the fire, and frequently into the water. |
| Matthew 17:16 | And I brought him to thy disciples, and they were not able to heal him. | I have brought him to your disciples, and they have not been able to cure him." | And I took him to your disciples, and they were not able to make him well. |
| Matthew 17:17 | And Jesus answering said, O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me. | "O unbelieving and perverse generation!" replied Jesus; "how long shall I be with you? how long shall I endure you? Bring him to me." | And Jesus, answering, said, O false and foolish generation, how long will I be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come here to me. |
| Matthew 17:18 | And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out from him, and the boy was healed from that hour. | Then Jesus reprimanded the demon, and it came out and left him; and the boy was cured from that moment. | And Jesus gave orders to the unclean spirit, and it went out of him: and the boy was made well from that hour. |
| Matthew 17:19 | Then the disciples, coming to Jesus apart, said [to him], Why were not *we* able to cast him out? | Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and asked Him, "Why could not we expel the demon?" | Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, Why were we not able to send it out? |
| Matthew 17:20 | And he says to them, Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard [seed], ye shall say to this mountain, Be transported hence there, and it shall transport itself; and nothing shall be impossible to you. | "Because your faith is so small," He replied; "for I solemnly declare to you that if you have faith like a mustard-seed, you shall say to this mountain, `Remove from this place to that,' and it will remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you. | And he says to them, Because of your little faith: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Be moved from this place to that; and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you. |
| Matthew 17:21 | But this kind does not go out but by prayer and fasting. | But an evil spirit of this kind is only driven out by prayer and fasting." | [] |
| Matthew 17:22 | And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man is about to be delivered up into [the] hands of men, | As they were travelling about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men; | And while they were going about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men; |
| Matthew 17:23 | and they shall kill him; and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were greatly grieved. | they will put Him to death, but on the third day He will be raised to life again." And they were exceedingly distressed. | And they will put him to death, and the third day he will come again from the dead. And they were very sad. |
| Matthew 17:24 | And when they came to Capernaum, those who received the didrachmas came to Peter and said, Does your teacher not pay the didrachmas? | After their arrival at Capernaum the collectors of the half-shekel came and asked Peter, "Does not your Teacher pay the half-shekel?" | And when they had come to Capernaum, those who took the Temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your master make payment of the Temple tax? |
| Matthew 17:25 | He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, What dost thou think, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive custom or tribute? from their own sons or from strangers? | "Yes," he replied, and then went into the house. But before he spoke a word Jesus said, "What think you, Simon? From whom do this world's kings receive customs or capitation tax? from their own children, or from others?" | He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus said to him, What is your opinion, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth get payment or tax? from their sons or from other people? |
| Matthew 17:26 | Peter says to him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free. | "From others," he replied. "Then the children go free," said Jesus. | And when he said, From other people, Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free. |
| Matthew 17:27 | But that we may not be an offence to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when thou hast opened its mouth thou wilt find a stater; take that and give it to them for me and thee. | "However, lest we cause them to sin, go and throw a hook into the Lake, and take the first fish that comes up. When you open its mouth, you will find a shekel in it: bring that coin and give it to them for yourself and me." | But, so that we may not be a cause of trouble to them, go to the sea, and let down a hook, and take the first fish which comes up; and in his mouth you will see a bit of money: take that, and give it to them for me and you. |
