Luke 24:1But on the morrow of the sabbath, very early indeed in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the aromatic spices which they had prepared.And, on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices they had prepared.Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.But they found the stone rolled back from the tomb,And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Luke 24:3And when they had entered they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.and on entering they found that the body of the Lord Jesus was not there.And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Luke 24:4And it came to pass as they were in perplexity about it, that behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining raiment.At this they were in great perplexity, when suddenly there stood by them two men whose raiment flashed like lightning.And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
Luke 24:5And as they were filled with fear and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, Why seek ye the living one among the dead?The women were terrified; but, as they stood with their faces bowed to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you search among the dead for Him who is living?And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
Luke 24:6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you, being yet in Galilee,He is not here. He has come back to life. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
Luke 24:7saying, The Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and rise the third day.when He told you that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again."Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Luke 24:8And they remembered his words;Then they remembered His words,And they remembered his words,
Luke 24:9and, returning from the sepulchre, related all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.and returning from the tomb they reported all this to the Eleven and to all the rest.And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
Luke 24:10Now it was Mary of Magdala, and Johanna, and Mary the [mother] of James, and the others with them, who told these things to the apostles.The women were Mary of Magdala, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; and they and the rest of the women related all this to the Apostles.It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
Luke 24:11And their words appeared in their eyes as an idle tale, and they disbelieved them.But the whole story seemed to them an idle tale; they could not believe the women.And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
Luke 24:12But Peter, rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down he sees the linen clothes lying there alone, and went away home, wondering at what had happened.Peter, however, rose and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking in, he saw nothing but the linen cloths: so he went away to his own home, wondering at what had happened.Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
Luke 24:13And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus;On that same day two of the disciples were walking to Emmaus, a village seven or eight miles from Jerusalem,And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
Luke 24:14and they conversed with one another about all these things which had taken place.and were conversing about all these recent events;And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luke 24:15And it came to pass as they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus himself drawing nigh, went with them;and, in the midst of their conversation and discussion, Jesus Himself came and joined them,And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
Luke 24:16but their eyes were holden so as not to know him.though they were prevented from recognizing Him.But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
Luke 24:17And he said to them, What discourses are these which pass between you as ye walk, and are downcast?"What is the subject," He asked them, "on which you are talking so earnestly, as you walk?" And they stood still, looking full of sorrow.And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
Luke 24:18And one [of them], named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered, "Are you a stranger lodging alone in Jerusalem, that you have known nothing of the things that have lately happened in the city?"And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
Luke 24:19And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;"What things?" He asked. "The things about Jesus the Nazarene," they said, "who was a Prophet powerful in work and word before God and all the people;And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Luke 24:20and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to [the] judgment of death and crucified him.and how our High Priests and Rulers delivered Him up to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him.And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
Luke 24:21But *we* had hoped that *he* was [the one] who is about to redeem Israel. But then, besides all these things, it is now, to-day, the third day since these things took place.But we were hoping that it was He who was about to ransom Israel. Yes, and moreover it was the day before yesterday that these things happened.But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
Luke 24:22And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,And, besides, some of the women of our company have amazed us. They went to the tomb at daybreak,Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
Luke 24:23and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.and, finding that His body was not there, they came and declared to us that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
Luke 24:24And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.Thereupon some of our party went to the tomb and found things just as the women had said; but Jesus Himself they did not see."And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
Luke 24:25And *he* said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!"O dull-witted men," He replied, "with minds so slow to believe all that the Prophets have spoken!Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Luke 24:26Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?Was there not a necessity for the Christ thus to suffer, and then enter into His glory?"Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
Luke 24:27And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.And, beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them the passages in Scripture which refer to Himself.And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:28And they drew near to the village where they were going, and *he* made as though he would go farther.When they had come near the village to which they were going, He appeared to be going further.And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
Luke 24:29And they constrained him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is declining. And he entered in to stay with them.But they pressed Him to remain with them. "Because," said they, "it is getting towards evening, and the day is nearly over." So He went in to stay with them.But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
Luke 24:30And it came to pass as he was at table with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken it, gave it to them.But as soon as He had sat down with them, and had taken the bread and had blessed and broken it, and was handing it to them,And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
Luke 24:31And their eyes were opened, and they recognised him. And he disappeared from them.their eyes were opened and they recognized Him. But He vanished from them.And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
Luke 24:32And they said to one another, Was not our heart burning in us as he spoke to us on the way, [and] as he opened the scriptures to us?"Were not our hearts," they said to one another, "burning within us while He talked to us on the way and explained the Scriptures to us?"And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Luke 24:33And rising up the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven, and those with them, gathered together,So they rose and without an hour's delay returned to Jerusalem, and found the Eleven and the rest met together, who said to them,And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
Luke 24:34saying, The Lord is indeed risen and has appeared to Simon."Yes, it is true: the Master has come back to life. He has been seen by Simon."Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
Luke 24:35And they related what [had happened] on the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.Then they related what had happened on the way, and how He had been recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
Luke 24:36And as they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst, and says to them, Peace [be] unto you.While they were thus talking, He Himself stood in their midst and said, "Peace be to you!"And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Luke 24:37But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit.Startled, and in the utmost alarm, they thought they were looking at a spirit;But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
Luke 24:38And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why are thoughts rising in your hearts?but He said to them, "Why such alarm? And why are there such questionings in your minds?And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:39behold my hands and my feet, that it is *I* myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having.See my hands and my feet it is my very self. Feel me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see I have."Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luke 24:40And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet.And then He showed them His hands and His feet.And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
Luke 24:41But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat?But, while they still could not believe it for joy and were full of astonishment, He asked them, "Have you any food here?"And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
Luke 24:42And they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb;And they gave Him a piece of roasted fish,And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
Luke 24:43and he took it and ate before them.and He took it and ate it in their presence.And he took it, and did eat before them.
Luke 24:44And he said to them, These [are] the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the law of Moses and prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.And He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you that everything must be fulfilled that is written in the Law of Moses and in the Prophets and the Psalms concerning me."And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luke 24:45Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Luke 24:46and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;and He said, "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise again from among the dead;And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luke 24:47and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.and that proclamation would be made, in His name, of repentance and forgiveness of sins to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem.And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:48And *ye* are witnesses of these things.You are witnesses as to these things.And ye are witnesses of these things.
Luke 24:49And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but do ye remain in the city till ye be clothed with power from on high.And remember that I am about to send out my Father's promised gift to rest upon you. But, as for you, wait patiently in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Luke 24:50And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.And He brought them out to within view of Bethany, and then lifted up His hands and blessed them.And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
Luke 24:51And it came to pass as he was blessing them, he was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.And while He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into Heaven.And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
Luke 24:52And *they*, having done him homage, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,They worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
Luke 24:53and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.Afterwards they were continually in attendance at the Temple, blessing God.And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
