Ephesians 6:1 | Children, obey your parents in [the] Lord, for this is just. | Children, be obedient to your parents as a Christian duty, for it is a duty. | Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. |
Ephesians 6:2 | Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, | "Honour your father and your mother" this is the first Commandment which has a promise added to it | Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise) |
Ephesians 6:3 | that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest be long-lived on the earth. | "so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth." | That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. |
Ephesians 6:4 | And [ye] fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in [the] discipline and admonition of [the] Lord. | And you, fathers, do not irritate your children, but bring them up tenderly with true Christian training and advice. | And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. |
Ephesians 6:5 | Bondmen, obey masters according to flesh, with fear and trembling, in simplicity of your heart as to the Christ; | Slaves, be obedient to your earthly masters, with respect and eager anxiety to please and with simplicity of motive as if you were obeying Christ. | Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; |
Ephesians 6:6 | not with eye-service as men-pleasers; but as bondmen of Christ, doing the will of God from [the] soul, | Let it not be in acts of eye-service as if you had but to please men, but as Christ's bondservants who are doing God's will from the heart. | Not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; |
Ephesians 6:7 | serving with good will as to the Lord, and not to men; | With right good will, be faithful to your duty as service rendered to the Lord and not to man. | With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: |
Ephesians 6:8 | knowing that whatever good each shall do, this he shall receive of [the] Lord, whether bond or free. | You well know that whatever right thing any one does, he will receive a requital for it from the Lord, whether he is a slave or a free man. | Knowing that whatever good thing any man doeth, the same will he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond or free. |
Ephesians 6:9 | And, masters, do the same things towards them, giving up threatening, knowing that both their and your Master is in heaven, and there is no acceptance of persons with him. | And you masters, act towards your slaves on the same principles, and refrain from threats. For you know that in Heaven there is One who is your Master as well as theirs, and that merely earthly distinctions there are none with Him. | And, ye masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. |
Ephesians 6:10 | For the rest, brethren, be strong in [the] Lord, and in the might of his strength. | In conclusion, strengthen yourselves in the Lord and in the power which His supreme might imparts. | Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. |
Ephesians 6:11 | Put on the panoply of God, that ye may be able to stand against the artifices of the devil: | Put on the complete armour of God, so as to be able to stand firm against all the stratagems of the Devil. | Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. |
Ephesians 6:12 | because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against principalities, against authorities, against the universal lords of this darkness, against spiritual [power] of wickedness in the heavenlies. | For ours is not a conflict with mere flesh and blood, but with the despotisms, the empires, the forces that control and govern this dark world the spiritual hosts of evil arrayed against us in the heavenly warfare. | For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. |
Ephesians 6:13 | For this reason take [to you] the panoply of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having accomplished all things, to stand. | Therefore put on the complete armour of God, so that you may be able to stand your ground on the day of battle, and, having fought to the end, to remain victors on the field. | Wherefore take to you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. |
Ephesians 6:14 | Stand therefore, having girt about your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, | Stand therefore, first fastening round you the girdle of truth and putting on the breastplate of uprightness | Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breast-plate of righteousness; |
Ephesians 6:15 | and shod your feet with [the] preparation of the glad tidings of peace: | as well as the shoes of the Good News of peace a firm foundation for your feet. | And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; |
Ephesians 6:16 | besides all [these], having taken the shield of faith with which ye will be able to quench all the inflamed darts of the wicked one. | And besides all these take the great shield of faith, on which you will be able to quench all the flaming darts of the Wicked one; | Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye will be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked. |
Ephesians 6:17 | Have also the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God's word; | and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. | And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: |
Ephesians 6:18 | praying at all seasons, with all prayer and supplication in [the] Spirit, and watching unto this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints; | Pray with unceasing prayer and entreaty on every fitting occasion in the Spirit, and be always on the alert to seize opportunities for doing so, with unwearied persistence and entreaty on behalf of all God's people, | Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching for this purpose with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; |
Ephesians 6:19 | and for me in order that utterance may be given to me in [the] opening of my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the glad tidings, | and ask on my behalf that words may be given to me so that, outspoken and fearless, I may make known the truths (hitherto kept secret) of the Good News | And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, |
Ephesians 6:20 | for which I am an ambassador [bound] with a chain, that I may be bold in it as I ought to speak. | to spread which I am an ambassador in chains so that when telling them I may speak out boldly as I ought. | For which I am an embassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. |
Ephesians 6:21 | But in order that *ye* also may know what concerns me, how I am getting on, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in [the] Lord, shall make all things known to you; | But in order that you also may know how I am doing, Tychicus our dearly-loved brother and faithful helper in the Lord's service will tell you everything. | But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things: |
Ephesians 6:22 | whom I have sent to you for this very thing, that ye may know of our affairs and that he may encourage your hearts. | I have sent him to you for the very purpose that you may know about us and that he may encourage you. | Whom I have sent to you for the same purpose, that ye may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. |
Ephesians 6:23 | Peace to the brethren, and love with faith, from God [the] Father and [the] Lord Jesus Christ. | Peace be to the brethren, and love combined with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Ephesians 6:24 | Grace with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. | May grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with perfect sincerity. | Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. |
