| Matthew 3:1 | Now in those days comes John the baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, | About this time John the Baptist made his appearance, preaching in the Desert of Judaea. | In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, |
| Matthew 3:2 | and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh. | "Repent," he said, "for the Kingdom of the Heavens is now close at hand." | And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. |

| Matthew 3:10 | And already the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. | And already the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which does not produce good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire. | And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. |
| Matthew 3:11 | *I* indeed baptise you with water to repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not fit to bear; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire; | I indeed am baptizing you in water on a profession of repentance; but He who is coming after me is mightier than I: His sandals I am not worthy to carry for a moment; He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire. | I indeed baptize you with water to repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: |
| Matthew 3:12 | whose winnowing fan [is] in his hand, and he shall thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and shall gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. | His winnowing-shovel is in His hand, and He will make a thorough clearance of His threshing-floor, gathering His wheat into the storehouse, but burning up the chaff in unquenchable fire." | Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather his wheat into the granary; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire. |

At that moment the heavens opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him, | And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: |
