2nd-Peter 1:1 | Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ: | Simon Peter, a bondservant and Apostle of Jesus Christ: To those to whom there has been allotted the same precious faith as that which is ours through the righteousness of our God and of our Saviour Jesus Christ. | Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: |
2nd-Peter 1:2 | Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. | May more and more grace and peace be granted to you in a full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, | Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, |
2nd-Peter 1:3 | As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue, | seeing that His divine power has given us all things that are needful for life and godliness, through our knowledge of Him who has appealed to us by His own glorious perfections. | seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue; |
2nd-Peter 1:4 | through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. | It is by means of these that He has granted us His precious and wondrous promises, in order that through them you may, one and all, become sharers in the very nature of God, having completely escaped the corruption which exists in the world through earthly cravings. | whereby he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust. |
2nd-Peter 1:5 | But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge, | But for this very reason adding, on your part, all earnestness along with your faith, manifest also a noble character: along with a noble character, knowledge; | Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge; |
2nd-Peter 1:6 | in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurance godliness, | along with knowledge, self-control; along with self-control, power of endurance; | and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control patience; and in patience godliness; |
2nd-Peter 1:7 | in godliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love: | along with power of endurance, godliness; along with godliness, brotherly affection; and along with brotherly affection, love. | and in godliness brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love. |
2nd-Peter 1:8 | for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; | If these things exist in you, and continually increase, they prevent your being either idle or unfruitful in advancing towards a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. | For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:9 | for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins. | For the man in whom they are lacking is blind and cannot see distant objects, in that he has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his old sins. | For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. |
2nd-Peter 1:10 | Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall; | For this reason, brethren, be all the more in earnest to make sure that God has called you and chosen you; for it is certain that so long as you practise these things, you will never stumble. | Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. |
2nd-Peter 1:11 | for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you. | And so a triumphant admission into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will be freely granted to you. | For thus will be richly supplied to you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. |
2nd-Peter 1:12 | Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth. | For this reason I shall always persist in reminding you of these things, although you know them and are stedfast believers in truth which you already possess. | Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth. |
2nd-Peter 1:13 | But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance, | But I think it right, so long as I remain in the body, my present dwelling-place, to arouse you by such reminders. | I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you; |
2nd-Peter 1:14 | knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me; | For I know that the time for me to lay aside my body is now rapidly drawing near, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has revealed to me. | knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord, Jesus Christ, made clear to me. |
2nd-Peter 1:15 | but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things. | So on every possible occasion I will also do my best to enable you to recall these things after my departure. | Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure. |
2nd-Peter 1:16 | For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of *his* majesty. | For when we made known to you the power and Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not eagerly following cleverly devised legends, but we had been eye-witnesses of His majesty. | For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. |
2nd-Peter 1:17 | For he received from God [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom *I* have found my delight; | He received honour and glory from God the Father, and out of the wondrous glory words such as these were spoken to Him, "This is My dearly-loved Son, in whom I take delight." | For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." |
2nd-Peter 1:18 | and this voice *we* heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain. | And we ourselves heard these words come from Heaven, when we were with Him on the holy mountain. | This voice we heard come out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mountain. |
2nd-Peter 1:19 | And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts; | And in the written word of prophecy we have something more permanent; to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dimly-lighted place until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. | We have the more sure word of prophecy; whereunto you do well that you take heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the day star arises in your hearts: |
2nd-Peter 1:20 | knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation, | But, above all, remember that no prophecy in Scripture will be found to have come from the prophet's own prompting; | knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation. |
2nd-Peter 1:21 | for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit. | for never did any prophecy come by human will, but men sent by God spoke as they were impelled by the Holy Spirit. | For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit. |
