Acts 12:1 | At that time Herod the king laid his hands on some of those of the assembly to do them hurt, | Now, about that time, King Herod arrested certain members of the Church, in order to ill-treat them; | Now about that time, Herod the king put forth his hands to oppress some of the assembly. |
Acts 12:2 | and slew James, the brother of John, with the sword. | and James, John's brother, he beheaded. | He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. |

Acts 12:16 | But Peter continued knocking: and having opened, they saw him and were astonished. | Meanwhile Peter went on knocking, until at last they opened the door and saw that it was really he, and were filled with amazement. | But Peter continued knocking. Acts 12:17 | And having made a sign to them with his hand to be silent, he related [to them] how the Lord had brought him out of prison; and he said, Report these things to James and to the brethren. Acts 12:18 | And when it was day there was no small disturbance among the soldiers, what then was become of Peter. | When morning came, there was no little commotion among the soldiers, as to what could possibly have become of Peter. | Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. |

Acts 12:20 | And he was in bitter hostility with [the] Tyrians and Sidonians; but they came to him with one accord, and, having gained Blastus the king's chamberlain, sought peace, because their country was nourished by the king's. | Now the people of Tyre and Sidon had incurred Herod's violent displeasure. So they sent a large deputation to wait on him; and having secured the good will of Blastus, his treasurer, they begged the king to be friendly with them again, because their country was dependent on his for its food supply. | Now Herod was highly displeased with those of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the king's chamberlain, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food. |
Acts 12:21 | And on a set day, clothed in royal apparel and sitting on the elevated seat [of honour], Herod made a public oration to them. | So, on an appointed day, Herod, having arrayed himself in royal robes, took his seat on the tribunal, and was haranguing them; | On an appointed day, Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and gave a speech to them. |
Acts 12:22 | And the people cried out, A god's voice and not a man's. | and the assembled people kept shouting, "It is the voice of a god, and not of a man!" | The people shouted, "The voice of a god, and not of a man!" |
