Ephesians 5:1Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,Therefore be imitators of God, as His dear children.Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.
Ephesians 5:2and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.And live and act lovingly, as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up to death on our behalf as an offering and sacrifice to God, yielding a fragrant odor.Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
Ephesians 5:3But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;But fornication and every kind of impurity, or covetousness, let them not even be mentioned among you, for they ought not to be named among God's people.But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints;
Ephesians 5:4and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.Avoid shameful and foolish talk and low jesting they are all alike discreditable and in place of these give thanks.nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.
Ephesians 5:5For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.For be well assured that no fornicator or immoral person and no money-grubber or in other words idol-worshipper has any share awaiting him in the Kingdom of Christ and of God.Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Ephesians 5:6Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is on account of these very sins that God's anger is coming upon the disobedient.Let no man deceive you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the sons of disobedience.
Ephesians 5:7Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;Therefore do not become sharers with them.Don't be therefore partakers with them.
Ephesians 5:8for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light,There was a time when you were nothing but darkness. Now, as Christians, you are Light itself.For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
Ephesians 5:9(for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)Live and act as sons of Light for the effect of the Light is seen in every kind of goodness, uprightness and truthfor the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth,
Ephesians 5:10proving what is agreeable to the Lord;and learn in your own experiences what is fully pleasing to the Lord.proving what is well-pleasing to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:11and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them],Have nothing to do with the barren unprofitable deeds of darkness, but, instead of that, set your faces against them;Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them.
Ephesians 5:12for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.for the things which are done by these people in secret it is disgraceful even to speak of.For the things which are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.
Ephesians 5:13But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.But everything can be tested by the light and thus be shown in its true colors; for whatever shines of itself is light.But all things, when they are reproved, are revealed by the light, for everything that is revealed is light.
Ephesians 5:14Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.For this reason it is said, "Rise, sleeper; rise from among the dead, and Christ will shed light upon you."Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Ephesians 5:15See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,Therefore be very careful how you live and act. Let it not be as unwise men, but as wise.Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise;
Ephesians 5:16redeeming the time, because the days are evil.Buy up your opportunities, for these are evil times.redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:17For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord.On this account do not prove yourselves wanting in sense, but try to understand what the Lord's will is.Therefore don't be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Ephesians 5:18And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,Do not over-indulge in wine a thing in which excess is so easyDon't be drunken with wine, in which is an abandoned life, but be filled with the Spirit,
Ephesians 5:19speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;but drink deeply of God's Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and offer praise in your hearts to the Lord.speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and singing praises in your heart to the Lord;
Ephesians 5:20giving thanks at all times for all things to him [who is] God and [the] Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,Always and for everything let your thanks to God the Father be presented in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;
Ephesians 5:21submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ.and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.
Ephesians 5:22Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord,Married women, submit to your own husbands as if to the Lord;Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:23for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body.because a husband is the Head of his wife as Christ also is the Head of the Church, being indeed the Saviour of this His Body.For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.
Ephesians 5:24But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.And just as the Church submits to Christ, so also married women should be entirely submissive to their husbands.But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything.
Ephesians 5:25Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,Married men, love your wives, as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up to death for her;Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;
Ephesians 5:26in order that he might sanctify it, purifying [it] by the washing of water by [the] word,in order to make her holy, cleansing her with the baptismal water by the word,that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,
Ephesians 5:27that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.that He might present the Church to Himself a glorious bride, without spot or wrinkle or any other defect, but to be holy and unblemished.that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:28So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.So too married men ought to love their wives as much as they love themselves. He who loves his wife loves himself.Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:29For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:For never yet has a man hated his own body. On the contrary he feeds and cherishes it, just as Christ feeds and cherishes the Church;For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ also the assembly;
Ephesians 5:30for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.]because we are, as it were, parts of His Body.because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones.
Ephesians 5:31Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh."For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be as one.""For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh."
Ephesians 5:32This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.That is a great truth hitherto kept secret: I mean the truth concerning Christ and the Church.This mystery is great, but I speak in regard of Christ and of the assembly.
Ephesians 5:33But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife [I speak] that she may fear the husband.Yet I insist that among you also, each man is to love his own wife as much as he loves himself, and let a married woman see to it that she treats her husband with respect.Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
