Galatians 4:1Now I say, As long as the heir is a child, he differs nothing from a bondman, though he be lord of all;Now I say that so long as an heir is a child, he in no respect differs from a slave, although he is the owner of everything,But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all;
Galatians 4:2but he is under guardians and stewards until the period fixed by the father.but he is under the control of guardians and trustees until the time his father has appointed.but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.
Galatians 4:3So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the principles of the world; So we also, when spiritually we were children, were subject to the world's rudimentary notions, and were enslaved. So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elements of the world.
Galatians 4:4but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, come of woman, come under law,But, when the time was fully come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born subject to Law,But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,
Galatians 4:5that he might redeem those under law, that we might receive sonship.in order to purchase the freedom of all who were subject to Law, so that we might receive recognition as sons.that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:6But because ye are sons, God has sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. And because you are sons, God has sent out the Spirit of His Son to enter your hearts and cry "Abba! our Father!"Because you are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"
Galatians 4:7So thou art no longer bondman, but son; but if son, heir also through God.Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir also through God's own act.So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Galatians 4:8But then indeed, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods; But at one time, you Gentiles, having no knowledge of God, were slaves to gods which in reality do not exist. However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are no gods.
Galatians 4:9but now, knowing God, but rather being known by God, how do ye turn again to the weak and beggarly principles to which ye desire to be again anew in bondage? Now, however, having come to know God or rather to be known by Him how is it you are again turning back to weak and worthless rudimentary notions to which you are once more willing to be enslaved? But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elements, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?
Galatians 4:10Ye observe days and months and times and years. You scrupulously observe days and months, special seasons, and years. You observe days, months, seasons, and years.
Galatians 4:11I am afraid of you, lest indeed I have laboured in vain as to you.I am alarmed about you, and am afraid that I have perhaps bestowed labour upon you to no purpose.I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.
Galatians 4:12Be as *I* [am], for *I* also [am] as *ye*, brethren, I beseech you: ye have not at all wronged me.Brethren, become as I am, I beseech you; for I have also become like you. In no respect did you behave badly to me.I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,
Galatians 4:13But ye know that in weakness of the flesh I announced the glad tidings to you at the first; And you know that in those early days it was on account of bodily infirmity that I proclaimed the Good News to you,but you know that because of weakness of the flesh I preached the gospel to you the first time.
Galatians 4:14and my temptation, which [was] in my flesh, ye did not slight nor reject with contempt; but ye received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus.and yet the bodily infirmity which was such a trial to you, you did not regard with contempt or loathing, but you received me as if I had been an angel of God or Christ Jesus Himself! That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn't despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
Galatians 4:15What then [was] your blessedness? for I bear you witness that, if possible, plucking out your own eyes ye would have given [them] to me.I ask you, then, what has become of your self-congratulations? For I bear you witness that had it been possible you would have torn out your own eyes and have given them to me.What has become of the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
Galatians 4:16So I have become your enemy in speaking the truth to you?Can it be that I have become your enemy through speaking the truth to you?So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
Galatians 4:17They are not rightly zealous after you, but desire to shut you out [from us], that ye may be zealous after them. These men pay court to you, but not with honourable motives. They want to exclude you, so that you may pay court to them. They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.
Galatians 4:18But [it is] right to be zealous at all times in what is right, and not only when I am present with youIt is always an honourable thing to be courted in an honourable cause; always, and not only when I am with you, my childrenBut it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.
Galatians 4:19my children, of whom I again travail in birth until Christ shall have been formed in you:you for whom I am again, as it were, undergoing the pains of childbirth, until Christ is fully formed within you.My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you
Galatians 4:20and I should wish to be present with you now, and change my voice, for I am perplexed as to you.Would that I were with you and could change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
Galatians 4:21Tell me, ye who are desirous of being under law, do ye not listen to the law?Tell me you who want to continue to be subject to Law will you not listen to the Law?Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don't you listen to the law?
Galatians 4:22For it is written that Abraham had two sons; one of the maid servant, and one of the free woman. For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave-girl and one by the free woman. For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.
Galatians 4:23But he [that was] of the maid servant was born according to flesh, and he [that was] of the free woman through the promise. But we see that the child of the slave-girl was born in the common course of nature; but the child of the free woman in fulfilment of the promise. However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.
Galatians 4:24Which things have an allegorical sense; for these are two covenants: one from mount Sinai, gendering to bondage, which is Hagar. All this is allegorical; for the women represent two Covenants. One has its origin on Mount Sinai, and bears children destined for slavery. These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.
Galatians 4:25For Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which [is] now, for she is in bondage with her children; This is Hagar; for the name Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, which is in bondage together with her children. Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.
Galatians 4:26but the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother. But the Jerusalem which is above is free, and *she* is *our* mother. But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother.
Galatians 4:27For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break out and cry, thou that travailest not; because the children of the desolate are more numerous than [those] of her that has a husband. For it is written, "Rejoice, thou barren woman that bearest not, break forth into a joyful cry, thou that dost not travail with child. For the desolate woman has many children more indeed than she who has the husband."For it is written, "Rejoice, you barren who don't bear. Break forth and shout, you that don't travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has the husband."
Galatians 4:28But *ye*, brethren, after the pattern of Isaac, are children of promise. But you, brethren, like Isaac, are children born in fulfilment of a promise. Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.
Galatians 4:29But as then he that was born according to flesh persecuted him [that was born] according to Spirit, so also [it is] now.Yet just as, at that time, the child born in the common course of nature persecuted the one whose birth was due to the power of the Spirit, so it is now.But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.
Galatians 4:30But what says the scripture? Cast out the maid servant and her son; for the son of the maid servant shall not inherit with the son of the free woman. But what says the Scripture? "Send away the slave-girl and her son, for never shall the slave-girl's son share the inheritance with the son of the free woman."However what does the scripture say? "Throw out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman."
Galatians 4:31So then, brethren, we are not maid servant's children, but [children] of the free woman. Therefore, brethren, since we are not the children of a slave-girl, but of the free womanTherefore, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.
