Genesis 18:1And Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day.Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
Genesis 18:2And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him. And when he saw [them], he ran to meet them from the tent-door, and bowed himself to the earth,He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,
Genesis 18:3and said, Lord, if now I have found favour in thine eyes, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant.and said, "My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don't go away from your servant.
Genesis 18:4Let now a little water be fetched, that ye may wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
Genesis 18:5And I will fetch a morsel of bread; and refresh yourselves; after that ye shall pass on; for therefore have ye passed on towards your servant. And they said, So do as thou hast said.I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said."
Genesis 18:6And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, Knead quickly three seahs of wheaten flour, and make cakes.Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."
Genesis 18:7And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf tender and good, and gave [it] to the attendant; and he hasted to dress it.Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
Genesis 18:8And he took thick and sweet milk, and the calf that he had dressed, and set [it] before them; and he stood before them under the tree, and they ate.He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
Genesis 18:9And they said to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.They said to him, "Where is Sarah, your wife? He said, "See, in the tent."
Genesis 18:10And he said, I will certainly return to thee at [this] time of the year, and behold, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah was listening at the tent-door, which was behind him.He said, "I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
Genesis 18:11Now Abraham and Sarah were old [and] advanced in age: it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Genesis 18:12And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am become old, shall I have pleasure, and my lord old?Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"
Genesis 18:13And Jehovah said to Abraham, Why is this, that Sarah laughs, saying, Shall I indeed bear, when I am become old?Yahweh said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'
Genesis 18:14Is [any] matter too wonderful for Jehovah? At the time appointed I will return to thee, at [this] time of the year, and Sarah shall have a son.Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son."
Genesis 18:15And Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And he said, No; but thou didst laugh.Then Sarah denied, saying, "I didn't laugh," for she was afraid." He said, "No, but you did laugh."
Genesis 18:16And the men rose up thence, and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to conduct them.The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
Genesis 18:17And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing?Yahweh said, "Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
Genesis 18:18Since Abraham shall indeed become a great and mighty nation; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.seeing that Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
Genesis 18:19For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice, in order that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham what he hath spoken of him.For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him."
Genesis 18:20And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grievous,Yahweh said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
Genesis 18:21I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me; and if not, I will know [it].I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me. If not, I will know."
Genesis 18:22And the men turned thence, and went towards Sodom; and Abraham remained yet standing before Jehovah.The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
Genesis 18:23And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also cause the righteous to perish with the wicked?Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
Genesis 18:24There are perhaps fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not forgive the place for the sake of the fifty righteous that are therein?What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are therein?
Genesis 18:25Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"
Genesis 18:26And Jehovah said, If I find at Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will forgive all the place for their sakes.Yahweh said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake."
Genesis 18:27And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak unto the Lord; I, who am dust and ashes.Abraham answered, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.
Genesis 18:28Perhaps there may want five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city on account of the five? And he said, If I shall find forty-five there, I will not destroy [it].What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?" He said, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there."
Genesis 18:29And he continued yet to speak with him, and said, Perhaps there may be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty's sake.He spoke to him yet again, and said, "What if there are forty found there?" He said, "I will not do it for the forty's sake."
Genesis 18:30And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry that I speak! Perhaps there may be thirty found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there.He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?" He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."
Genesis 18:31And he said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak with the Lord. Perhaps there may be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the twenty's sake.He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake."
Genesis 18:32And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, that I speak yet but this time! Perhaps there may be ten found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the ten's sake.He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once. What if ten are found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the ten's sake."
Genesis 18:33And Jehovah went away when he had ended speaking to Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
