John 9:1And as he passed on, he saw a man blind from birth. As He passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from his birth. As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.
John 9:2And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this [man] or his parents, that he should be born blind? So His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind?"His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
John 9:3Jesus answered, Neither has this [man] sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be manifested in him."Neither he nor his parents sinned," answered Jesus, "but he was born blind in order that God's mercy might be openly shown in him.Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents. But, that the works of God might be revealed in him,
John 9:4I must work the works of him that has sent me while it is day. [The] night is coming, when no one can work.We must do the works of Him who sent me while there is daylight. Night is coming on, when no one can work.I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am [the] light of the world. When I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."When I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
John 9:6Having said these things, he spat on the ground and made mud of the spittle, and put the mud, as ointment, on his eyes. After thus speaking, He spat on the ground, and then, kneading the dust and spittle into clay, He smeared the clay over the man's eyes and said to him,When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,
John 9:7And he said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore and washed, and came seeing."Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" the name means `Sent.' So he went and washed his eyes, and returned able to see.and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8The neighbours therefore, and those who used to see him before, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that was sitting and begging? His neighbours, therefore, and the other people to whom he had been a familiar object because he was a beggar, began asking, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?"The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind, before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?"
John 9:9Some said, It is he; others said, No, but he is like him: *he* said, It is I."Yes it is," replied some of them. "No it is not," said others, "but he is like him." His own statement was, "I am the man."Others said, "It is he." Still others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he."
John 9:10They said therefore to him, How have thine eyes been opened?"How then were your eyes opened?" they asked. They said therefore to him, "How were your eyes opened?"
John 9:11He answered [and said], A man called Jesus made mud and anointed mine eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash: and having gone and washed, I saw."He whose name is Jesus," he answered, "made clay and smeared my eyes with it, and then told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and obtained sight."He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash." So I went away and washed, and I received sight."
John 9:12They said therefore to him, Where is he? He says, I do not know."Where is he?" they inquired, but the man did not know. Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know."
John 9:13They bring him who was before blind to the Pharisees. They brought him to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. They brought him who before was blind to the Pharisees.
John 9:14Now it was sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened the man's eyes was the Sabbath. It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
John 9:15The Pharisees therefore also again asked him how he received his sight. And he said to them, He put mud upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.So the Pharisees renewed their questioning as to how he had obtained his sight. "He put clay on my eyes," he replied, "and I washed, and now I can see."Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."
John 9:16Some of the Pharisees therefore said, This man is not of God, for he does not keep the sabbath. Others said, How can a sinful man perform such signs? And there was a division among them. This led some of the Pharisees to say, "That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." "How is it possible for a bad man to do such miracles?" argued others. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.
John 9:17They say therefore again to the blind [man], What dost thou say of him, that he has opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. And there was a division among them. So again they asked the once blind man, "What is your account of him? for he opened your eyes." "He is a Prophet," he replied. Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, in that he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
John 9:18The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him that he was blind and had received sight, until they had called the parents of him that had received sight. The Jews, however, did not believe the statement concerning him that he had been blind and had obtained his sight until they called his parents and asked them,The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
John 9:19And they asked them saying, This is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind: how then does he now see?"Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it then that he can now see?"and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"
John 9:20His parents answered [them] and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;"We know," replied the parents, "that this is our son and that he was born blind;His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
John 9:21but how he now sees we do not know, or who has opened his eyes we do not know. *He* is of age: ask *him*; *he* will speak concerning himself.but how it is that he can now see or who has opened his eyes we do not know. Ask him himself; he is of full age; he himself will give his own account of it."but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."
John 9:22His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if any one confessed him [to be the] Christ, he should be excommunicated from the synagogue.Such was their answer, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already settled among themselves that if any one should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, he should be excluded from the synagogue. His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23On this account his parents said, He is of age: ask *him*.That was why his parents said, "He is of full age: ask him himself."Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."
John 9:24They called therefore a second time the man who had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is sinful.A second time therefore they called the man who had been blind, and said, "Give God the praise: we know that that man is a sinner."So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."
John 9:25He answered therefore, If he is sinful I know not. One thing I know, that, being blind [before], now I see."Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know," he replied; "one thing I know that I was once blind and that now I can see."He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see."
John 9:26And they said to him again, What did he do to thee? how opened he thine eyes?"What did he do to you?" they asked; "how did he open your eyes?"They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
John 9:27He answered them, I told you already and ye did not hear: why do ye desire to hear again? do ye also wish to become his disciples?"I have told you already," he replied, "and you did not listen to me. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also mean to be disciples of his?"He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?"
John 9:28They railed at him, and said, Thou art his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. Then they railed at him, and said, "You are that man's disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. They became abusive towards him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We know that God spoke to Moses; but [as to] this [man], we know not whence he is.We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this fellow we do not know where he comes from."We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."
John 9:30The man answered and said to them, Now in this is a wonderful thing, that *ye* do not know whence he is, and he has opened mine eyes."Why, this is marvellous!" the man replied; "you do not know where he comes from, and yet he has opened my eyes! The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
John 9:31[But] we know that God does not hear sinners; but if any one be God-fearing and do his will, him he hears. We know that God does not listen to bad people, but that if any one is a God-fearing man and obeys Him, to him He listens. We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.
John 9:32Since time was, it has not been heard that any one opened the eyes of one born blind. From the beginning of the world such a thing was never heard of as that any one should open the eyes of a man blind from his birth.Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.
John 9:33If this [man] were not of God he would be able to do nothing.Had that man not come from God, he could have done nothing."If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
John 9:34They answered and said to him, Thou hast been wholly born in sins, and thou teachest us? And they cast him out."You," they replied, "were wholly begotten and born in sin, and do *you* teach *us*?" And they put him out of the synagogue. They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him, he said to him, Thou, dost thou believe on the Son of God?Jesus heard that they had done this. So having found him, He asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
John 9:36He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?"Who is He, Sir?" replied the man. "Tell me, so that I may believe in Him."He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"
John 9:37And Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and he that speaks with thee is he."You have seen Him," said Jesus; "and not only so: He is now speaking to you."Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."
John 9:38And he said, I believe, Lord: and he did him homage."I believe, Sir," he said. And he threw himself at His feet.He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshipped him.
John 9:39And Jesus said, For judgment am I come into this world, that they which see not may see, and they which see may become blind."I came into this world," said Jesus, "to judge men, that those who do not see may see, and that those who do see may become blind."Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind."
John 9:40And [some] of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, Are we blind also? These words were heard by those of the Pharisees who were present, and they asked Him, "Are *we* also blind?"Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"
John 9:41Jesus said to them, If ye were blind ye would not have sin; but now ye say, We see, your sin remains."If you were blind," answered Jesus, "you would have no sin; but as a matter of fact you boast that you see. So your sin remains!"Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
