John 11:2It was [the] Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.(It was the Mary who poured the perfume over the Lord and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill.)and it was Mary who did anoint the Lord with ointment, and did wipe his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ailing
John 11:3The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.So the sisters sent to Him to say, "Master, he whom you hold dear is ill."therefore sent the sisters unto him, saying, `Sir, lo, he whom thou dost love is ailing;`
John 11:4But when Jesus heard [it], he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified by it.Jesus received the message and said, "This illness is not to end in death, but is to promote the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified by it."and Jesus having heard, said, `This ailment is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.`
John 11:5Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.And Jesus was loving Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus,
John 11:6When therefore he heard, He is sick, he remained two days then in the place where he was.When, however, He heard that Lazarus was ill, He still remained two days in that same place.when, therefore, he heard that he is ailing, then indeed he remained in the place in which he was two days,
John 11:7Then after this he says to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.Then, after that, He said to the disciples, "Let us return to Judaea."then after this, he saith to the disciples, `We may go to Judea again;`

John 11:9Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any one walk in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world;"Are there not twelve hours in the day?" replied Jesus. "If any one walks in the daytime, he does not stumble because he sees the light of this world.Jesus answered, `Are there not twelve hours in the day? if any one may walk in the day, he doth not stumble, because the light of this world he doth see;
John 11:10but if any one walk in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.But if a man walks by night, he does stumble, because the light is not in him."and if any one may walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.`
John 11:11These things said he; and after this he says to them, Lazarus, our friend, is fallen asleep, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.He said this, and afterwards He added, "Our friend Lazarus is sleeping, but I will go and wake him."These things he said, and after this he saith to them, `Lazarus our friend hath fallen asleep, but I go on that I may awake him;`
John 11:12The disciples therefore said to him, Lord, if he be fallen asleep, he will get well."Master," said the disciples, "if he is asleep he will recover."therefore said his disciples, `Sir, if he hath fallen asleep, he will be saved;`
John 11:13But Jesus spoke of his death, but *they* thought that he spoke of the rest of sleep.Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought He referred to the rest taken in ordinary sleep.but Jesus had spoken about his death, but they thought that about the repose of sleep he speaketh.
John 11:14Jesus therefore then said to them plainly, Lazarus has died.So then He told them plainly,Then, therefore, Jesus said to them freely, `Lazarus hath died;
John 11:15And I rejoice on your account that I was not there, in order that ye may believe. But let us go to him."Lazarus is dead; and for your sakes I am glad I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him."and I rejoice, for your sake, (that ye may believe,) that I was not there; but we may go to him;`
John 11:16Thomas therefore, called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, Let *us* also go, that we may die with him."Let us go also," Thomas, the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "that we may die with him."therefore said Thomas, who is called Didymus, to the fellow-disciples, `We may go we also, that we may die with him,`
John 11:17Jesus therefore [on] arriving found him to have been four days already in the tomb.On His arrival Jesus found that Lazarus had already been three days in the tomb.Jesus, therefore, having come, found him having been four days already in the tomb.
John 11:18Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia off,Bethany was near Jerusalem, the distance being a little less than two miles;And Bethany was nigh to Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off,

John 11:20Martha then, when she heard Jesus is coming, went to meet him; but Mary sat in the house.Martha, however, as soon as she heard the tidings, "Jesus is coming," went to meet Him; but Mary remained sitting in the house.Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus doth come, met him, and Mary kept sitting in the house.
John 11:21Martha therefore said to Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;So Martha came and spoke to Jesus. "Master, if you had been here," she said, "my brother would not have died.Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus, `Sir, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;
John 11:22but even now I know, that whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.And even now I know that whatever you ask God for, God will give you."but even now, I have known that whatever thou mayest ask of God, God will give to thee;`
John 11:23Jesus says to her, Thy brother shall rise again."Your brother shall rise again," replied Jesus.Jesus saith to her, `Thy brother shall rise again.`
John 11:24Martha says to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection in the last day."I know," said Martha, "that he will rise again at the resurrection, on the last day."Martha saith to him, `I have known that he will rise again, in the rising again in the last day;`

John 11:26and every one who lives and believes on me shall never die. Believest thou this?and every one who is living and is a believer in me shall never, never die. Do you believe this?"and every one who is living and believing in me shall not die to the age;
John 11:27She says to him, Yea, Lord; I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world."Yes, Master," she replied; "I thoroughly believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."believest thou this?` she saith to him, `Yes, sir, I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming to the world.`
John 11:28And having said this, she went away and called her sister Mary secretly, saying, The teacher is come and calls thee.After saying this, she went and called her sister Mary privately, telling her, "The Rabbi is here and is asking for you."And these things having said, she went away, and called Mary her sister privately, saying, `The Teacher is present, and doth call thee;`
John 11:29She, when she heard [that], rises up quickly and comes to him.So she, on hearing that, rose up quickly to go to Him.she, when she heard, riseth up quickly, and doth come to him;
John 11:30Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha came to meet him.Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met Him.and Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was in the place where Martha met him;
John 11:31The Jews therefore who were with her in the house and consoling her, seeing Mary that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, She goes to the tomb, that she may weep there.So the Jews who were with Mary in the house sympathizing with her, when they saw that she had risen hastily and had gone out, followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep aloud there.the Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house, and were comforting her, having seen Mary that she rose up quickly and went forth, followed her, saying `She doth go away to the tomb, that she may weep there.`
John 11:32Mary therefore, when she came where Jesus was, seeing him, fell at his feet, saying to him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.Mary then, when she came to Jesus and saw Him, fell at His feet and exclaimed, "Master, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, having seen him, fell at his feet, saying to him, `Sir, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;`
John 11:33Jesus therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, was deeply moved in spirit, and was troubled,Seeing her weeping aloud, and the Jews in like manner weeping who had come with her, Jesus, curbing the strong emotion of His spirit,Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, did groan in the spirit, and troubled himself, and he said,
John 11:34and said, Where have ye put him? They say to him, Lord, come and see.though deeply troubled, asked them, "Where have you laid him?" "Master, come and see," was their reply.`Where have ye laid him?` they say to him, `Sir, come and see;`
John 11:35Jesus wept.Jesus wept.Jesus wept.
John 11:36The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him!"See how dear he held him," said the Jews.The Jews, therefore, said, `Lo, how he was loving him!`
John 11:37And some of them said, Could not this [man], who has opened the eyes of the blind [man], have caused that this [man] also should not have died?But others of them asked, "Was this man who opened the blind man's eyes unable to prevent this man from dying?"and certain of them said, `Was not this one, who did open the eyes of the blind man, able to cause that also this one might not have died?`
John 11:38Jesus therefore, again deeply moved in himself, comes to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.Jesus, however, again restraining His strong feeling, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone had been laid against the mouth of it.Jesus, therefore, again groaning in himself, cometh to the tomb, and it was a cave, and a stone was lying upon it,
John 11:39Jesus says, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of the dead, says to him, Lord, he stinks already, for he is four days [there]."Take away the stone," said Jesus. Martha, the sister of the dead man, exclaimed, "Master, by this time there is a foul smell; for it is three days since he died."Jesus saith, `Take ye away the stone;` the sister of him who hath died Martha saith to him, `Sir, already he stinketh, for he is four days dead;`
John 11:40Jesus says to her, Did I not say to thee, that if thou shouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?"Did I not promise you," replied Jesus, "that if you believe, you shall see the glory of God?"Jesus saith to her, `Said I not to thee, that if thou mayest believe, thou shalt see the glory of God?`
John 11:41They took therefore the stone away. And Jesus lifted up his eyes on high and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me;So they removed the stone. Then Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard me.They took away, therefore, the stone where the dead was laid, and Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, `Father, I thank Thee, that Thou didst hear me;
John 11:42but I knew that thou always hearest me; but on account of the crowd who stand around I have said [it], that they may believe that thou hast sent me.I know that Thou always hearest me; but for the sake of the crowd standing round I have said this that they may believe that Thou didst send me."and I knew that Thou always dost hear me, but, because of the multitude that is standing by, I said [it], that they may believe that Thou didst send me.`
John 11:43And having said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.After speaking thus, He called out in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."And these things saying, with a loud voice he cried out, `Lazarus, come forth;`

"Untie him," said Jesus, "and let him go free."and he who died came forth, being bound feet and hands with grave-clothes, and his visage with a napkin was bound about; Jesus saith to them, `Loose him, and suffer to go.`
John 11:45Many therefore of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what he had done, believed on him;Thereupon a considerable number of the Jews namely those who had come to Mary and had witnessed His deeds became believers in Him;Many, therefore, of the Jews who came unto Mary, and beheld what Jesus did, believed in him;

John 11:47The chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many signs.Therefore the High Priests and the Pharisees held a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "What steps are we taking?" they asked one another; "for this man is performing a great number of miracles.the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrim, and said, `What may we do? because this man doth many signs?
John 11:48If we let him thus alone, all will believe on him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.If we leave him alone in this way, everybody will believe in him, and the Romans will come and blot out both our city and our nation."if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.`
John 11:49But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, Ye know nothingBut one of them, named Caiaphas, being High Priest that year, said, "You know nothing about it.and a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being chief priest of that year, said to them, `Ye have not known anything,
John 11:50nor consider that it is profitable for you that one man die for the people, and not that the whole nation perish.You do not reflect that it is to your interest that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish."nor reason that it is good for us that one man may die for the people, and not the whole nation perish.`
John 11:51But this he did not say of himself; but, being high priest that year, prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation;It was not as a mere man that he thus spoke. But being High Priest that year he was inspired to declare that Jesus was to die for the nation,And this he said not of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he did prophesy that Jesus was about to die for the nation,
John 11:52and not for the nation only, but that he should also gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad.and not for the nation only, but in order to unite into one body all the far-scattered children of God.and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, he may gather together into one.
John 11:53From that day therefore they took counsel that they might kill him.So from that day forward they planned and schemed in order to put Him to death.From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill him;
John 11:54Jesus therefore walked no longer openly among the Jews, but went away thence into the country near the desert, to a city called Ephraim, and there he sojourned with the disciples.Therefore Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but He left that neighbourhood and went into the district near the Desert, to a town called Ephraim, and remained there with the disciples.Jesus, therefore, was no more freely walking among the Jews, but went away thence to the region nigh the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he tarried with his disciples.
John 11:55But the passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, that they might purify themselves.The Jewish Passover was coming near, and many from that district went up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, that they might purify themselves;
John 11:56They sought therefore Jesus, and said among themselves, standing in the temple, What do ye think? that he will not come to the feast?They therefore looked out for Jesus, and asked one another as they stood in the Temple, "What do you think? will he come to the Festival at all?"they were seeking, therefore, Jesus, and said one with another, standing in the temple, `What doth appear to you that he may not come to the feast?`
John 11:57Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment that if any one knew where he was, he should make it known, that they might take him.Now the High Priests and the Pharisees had issued orders that if any one knew where He was, he should give information, so that they might arrest Him.and both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if any one may know where he is, he may shew [it], so that they may seize him.
