John 6:1After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee, [or] of Tiberias,After this Jesus went away across the Lake of Galilee (that is, the Lake of Tiberias).After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee (of Tiberias),
John 6:2and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought upon the sick.A vast multitude followed Him, because they witnessed the miracles on the sick which He was constantly performing.and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing;
John 6:3And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:Then Jesus went up the hill, and sat there with His disciples.and Jesus went up to the mount, and he was there sitting with his disciples,
John 6:4but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.The Jewish Festival, the Passover, was at hand.and the passover was nigh, the feast of the Jews.
John 6:5Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?And when He looked round and saw an immense crowd coming towards Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for all these people to eat?"Jesus then having lifted up [his] eyes and having seen that a great multitude doth come to him, saith unto Philip, `Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?`
John 6:6But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.He said this to put Philip to the test, for He Himself knew what He was going to do.and this he said, trying him, for he himself had known what he was about to do.
John 6:7Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little [portion]."Seven pounds' worth of bread," replied Philip, "is not enough for them all to get even a scanty meal."Philip answered him, `Two hundred denaries` worth of loaves are not sufficient to them, that each of them may receive some little;`
John 6:8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,one of his disciples Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter saith to him,
John 6:9There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?"There is a boy here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish: but what is that among so many?"`There is one little lad here who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes, but these what are they to so many?`
John 6:10[And] Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand."Make the people sit down," said Jesus. The ground was covered with thick grass; so they sat down, the adult men numbering about 5,000.And Jesus said, `Make the men to sit down;` and there was much grass in the place, the men then sat down, in number, as it were, five thousand,
John 6:11And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed [them] to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were resting on the ground; and also the fish in like manner as much as they desired.and Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those reclining, in like manner, also of the little fishes as much as they wished.
John 6:12And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.When all were fully satisfied, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the broken portions that remain over, so that nothing be lost."And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, `Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;`
John 6:13They gathered [them] therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten.Accordingly they gathered them up; and with the fragments of the five barley loaves the broken portions that remained over after they had done eating they filled twelve baskets.they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten.
John 6:14The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world.Thereupon the people, having seen the miracle He had performed, said, "This is indeed the Prophet who was to come into the world."The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said `This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;`
John 6:15Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make [him] king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.Perceiving, however, that they were about to come and carry Him off by force to make Him a king, Jesus withdrew again up the hill alone by Himself.Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.
John 6:16But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,When evening came on, His disciples went down to the Lake.And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
John 6:17and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,There they got on board a boat, and pushed off to cross the Lake to Capernaum. By this time it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,
John 6:18and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.The Lake also was getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing.the sea also a great wind blowing was being raised,
John 6:19Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.When, however, they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water and coming near the boat.having pushed onwards, therefore, about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and coming nigh to the boat, and they were afraid;
John 6:20But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.They were terrified; but He called to them. "It is I," He said, "do not be afraid."and he saith to them, `I am [he], be not afraid;`
John 6:21They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.Then they were willing to take Him on board; and in a moment the boat reached the shore at the point to which they were going.they were willing then to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat came unto the land to which they were going.
John 6:22On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone;Next morning the crowd who were still standing about on the other side of the Lake found that there had been but one small boat there, and they had seen that Jesus did not go on board with His disciples, but that His disciples went away without Him.On the morrow, the multitude that was standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little boat there except one that into which his disciples entered and that Jesus went not in with his disciples into the little boat, but his disciples went away alone,
John 6:23(but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)Yet a number of small boats came from Tiberias to the neighbourhood of the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.(and other little boats came from Tiberias, nigh the place where they did eat the bread, the Lord having given thanks),
John 6:24when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, *they* got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.When however the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they themselves also took boats and came to Capernaum to look for Jesus.when therefore the multitude saw that Jesus is not there, nor his disciples, they also themselves did enter into the boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus;
John 6:25And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?So when they had crossed the Lake and had found Him, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"and having found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, `Rabbi, when hast thou come hither?`
John 6:26Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled."In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that you are searching for me not because you have seen miracles, but because you ate the loaves and had a hearty meal.Jesus answered them and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were satisfied;
John 6:27Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God.Bestow your pains not on the food which perishes, but on the food that remains unto the Life of the Ages that food which will be the Son of Man's gift to you; for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."work not for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to life age-during, which the Son of Man will give to you, for him did the Father seal [even] God.`
John 6:28They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?"What are we to do," they asked, "in order to carry out the things that God requires?"They said therefore unto him, `What may we do that we may work the works of God?`
John 6:29Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom *he* has sent."This," replied Jesus, "is above all the thing that God requires that you should be believers in Him whom He has sent."Jesus answered and said to them, `This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.`
John 6:30They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?"What miracle then," they asked, "do you perform for us to see and become believers in you? What do you *do*?They said therefore to him, `What sign, then, dost thou, that we may see and may believe thee? what dost thou work?
John 6:31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.Our forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, as it is written, `He gave them bread out of Heaven to eat'."our fathers the manna did eat in the wilderness, according as it is having been written, Bread out of the heaven He gave them to eat.`
John 6:32Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven."In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that Moses did not give you the bread out of Heaven, but my Father is giving you the bread the true bread out of Heaven.Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread out of the heaven; but my Father doth give you the true bread out of the heaven;
John 6:33For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.For God's bread is that which comes down out of Heaven and gives Life to the world."for the bread of God is that which is coming down out of the heaven, and giving life to the world.`
John 6:34They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread."Sir," they said, "always give us that bread."They said, therefore, unto him, `Sir, always give us this bread.`
John 6:35[And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time."I am the bread of Life," replied Jesus; "he who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never, never thirst.And Jesus said to them, `I am the bread of the life; he who is coming unto me may not hunger, and he who is believing in me may not thirst at any time;
John 6:36But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.But it is as I have said to you: you have seen me and yet you do not believe.but I said to you, that ye also have seen me, and ye believe not;
John 6:37All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.Every one whom the Father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I will never on any account drive away.all that the Father doth give to me will come unto me; and him who is coming unto me, I may in no wise cast without,
John 6:38For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do *my* will, but the will of him that has sent me.For I have left Heaven and have come down to earth not to seek my own pleasure, but to do the will of Him who sent me.because I have come down out of the heaven, not that I may do my will, but the will of Him who sent me.
John 6:39And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day.And this is the will of Him who sent me, that of all that He has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it to life on the last day.`And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that all that He hath given to me I may not lose of it, but may raise it up in the last day;
John 6:40For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day.For this is my Father's will, that every one who fixes his gaze on the Son of God and believes in Him should have the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him to life on the last day."and this is the will of Him who sent me, that every one who is beholding the Son, and is believing in him, may have life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day.`
John 6:41The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven.Now the Jews began to find fault about Him because of His claiming to be the bread which came down out of Heaven.The Jews, therefore, were murmuring at him, because he said, `I am the bread that came down out of the heaven;`
John 6:42And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does *he* say, I am come down out of heaven?They kept asking, "Is not this man Joseph's son? Is he not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? What does he mean by now saying, `I have come down out of Heaven'?"and they said, `Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then saith this one Out of the heaven I have come down?`
John 6:43Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves."Do not thus find fault among yourselves," replied Jesus;Jesus answered, therefore, and said to them, `Murmur not one with another;
John 6:44No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day."no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; then I will raise him to life on the last day.no one is able to come unto me, if the Father who sent me may not draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day;
John 6:45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father [himself], and has learned [of him], comes to me;It stands written in the Prophets, `And they shall all of them be taught by God'. Every one who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.it is having been written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God; every one therefore who heard from the Father, and learned, cometh to me;
John 6:46not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.No one has ever seen the Father except Him who is from God. He has seen the Father.not that any one hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father.
John 6:47Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes [on me] has life eternal."In most solemn truth I tell you that he who believes has the Life of the Ages.`Verily, verily, I say to you, He who is believing in me, hath life age-during;
John 6:48I am the bread of life.I am the bread of Life.I am the bread of the life;
John 6:49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.Your forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, and they died.your fathers did eat the manna in the wilderness, and they died;
John 6:50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die.this is the bread that out of the heaven is coming down, that any one may eat of it, and not die.
John 6:51I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.I am the living bread come down out of Heaven. If a man eats this bread, he shall live for ever. Moreover the bread which I will give is my flesh given for the life of the world."`I am the living bread that came down out of the heaven; if any one may eat of this bread he shall live to the age; and the bread also that I will give is my flesh, that I will give for the life of the world.`
John 6:52The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?This led to an angry debate among the Jews. "How can this man," they argued, "give us his flesh to eat?"The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, `How is this one able to give us [his] flesh to eat?`
John 6:53Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves."In most solemn truth I tell you," said Jesus, "that unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no Life in you.Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, If ye may not eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and may not drink his blood, ye have no life in yourselves;
John 6:54He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him up on the last day.he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, hath life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day;
John 6:55for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.for my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink;
John 6:56He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I remain in union with him.he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, doth remain in me, and I in him.
John 6:57As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, *he* also who eats me shall live also on account of me.As the ever-living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also he who eats me will live because of me.`According as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, he also who is eating me, even that one shall live because of me;
John 6:58This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.This is the bread which came down out of Heaven; it is unlike that which your forefathers ate for they ate and yet died. He who eats this bread shall live for ever."this is the bread that came down out of the heaven; not as your fathers did eat the manna, and died; he who is eating this bread shall live to the age.`
John 6:59These things he said in [the] synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.Jesus said all this in the synagogue while teaching at Capernaum.These things he said in a synagogue, teaching in Capernaum;
John 6:60Many therefore of his disciples having heard [it] said, This word is hard; who can hear it?Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is hard to accept. Who can listen to such teaching?"many, therefore, of his disciples having heard, said, `This word is hard; who is able to hear it?`
John 6:61But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?But, knowing in Himself that His disciples were dissatisfied about it, Jesus asked them,And Jesus having known in himself that his disciples are murmuring about this, said to them, `Doth this stumble you?
John 6:62If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?"Does this seem incredible to you? What then if you were to see the Son of Man ascending again where He was before?if then ye may behold the Son of Man going up where he was before?
John 6:63It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.It is the spirit which gives Life. The flesh confers no benefit whatever. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and are Life.the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life;
John 6:64But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.but there are certain of you who do not believe;` for Jesus had known from the beginning who they are who are not believing, and who is he who will deliver him up,
John 6:65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.So He added, "That is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it be granted him by the Father."and he said, `Because of this I have said to you No one is able to come unto me, if it may not have been given him from my Father.`
John 6:66From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.Thereupon many of His disciples left Him and went away, and no longer associated with Him.From this [time] many of his disciples went away backward, and were no more walking with him,
John 6:67Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?Jesus therefore appealed to the Twelve. "Will you go also?" He asked.Jesus, therefore, said to the twelve, `Do ye also wish to go away?`
John 6:68Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal;"Master," replied Simon Peter, "to whom shall we go? Your teachings tell us of the Life of the Ages.Simon Peter, therefore, answered him, `Sir, unto whom shall we go? thou hast sayings of life age-during;
John 6:69and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.And we have come to believe and know that *you* are indeed the Holy One of God."and we have believed, and we have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.`
John 6:70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil."Did not I choose you the Twelve?" said Jesus, "and even of you one is a devil."Jesus answered them, `Did not I choose you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.
John 6:71Now he spoke of Judas [the son] of Simon, Iscariote, for he [it was who] should deliver him up, being one of the twelve.He alluded to Judas, the son of Simon the Iscariot. For he it was who, though one of the Twelve, was afterwards to betray Him.And he spake of Judas, Simon`s [son], Iscariot, for he was about to deliver him up, being one of the twelve.
