Judges 3:1And these are the nations that Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, all that had not known all the wars of Canaan; Now these are the nations which Yahweh left, to prove Israel by them, even as many [of Israel] as had not known all the wars of Canaan; These are the nations which the Lord left, that by them he might instruct Israel, and all that had not known the wars of the Chanaanites:
Judges 3:2only that the generations of the children of Israel might know war by learning it, at the least those who before had known nothing thereof:only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing of it:That afterwards their children might learn to fight with their enemies, and to be trained up to war:
Judges 3:3five lord ships of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwell on mount Lebanon; from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.[namely], the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon to the entrance of Hamath. The five princes of the Philistines, and all the Chanaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hevites that dwelt in mount Libanus, from mount Baal Hermon to the entering into Emath.
Judges 3:4And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would obey the commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. They were [left], to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of Yahweh, which he commanded their fathers by Moses. And he left them, that he might try Israel by them, whether they would hear the commandments of the Lord, which he had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses, or not.
Judges 3:5And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites: Hittites and Amorites and Perizzites and Hivites and Jebusites; The children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites:So the children of Israel dwelt in the midst of the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, and the Amorrhite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite:
Judges 3:6and they took their daughters as wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods. And they took their daughters to wives, and they gave their own daughters to their sons, and they served their gods.
Judges 3:7And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and forgot Jehovah their God, and served the Baals and the Asherahs. The children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and forgot Yahweh their God, and served the Baals and the Asheroth. And they did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they forgot their God, and served Baalim and Astaroth.
Judges 3:8And the anger of Jehovah was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years. Therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years. And the Lord being angry with Israel, delivered them into the hands of Chusan Rasathaim king of Mesopotamia, and they served him eight years.
Judges 3:9And the children of Israel cried to Jehovah; and Jehovah raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. When the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up a savior to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. And they cried to the Lord, who raised them up a saviour, and delivered them, to wit, Othoniel the son of Cenez, the younger brother of Caleb:
Judges 3:10And the Spirit of Jehovah was upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and Jehovah gave Chushan-rishathaim king of Syria into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.The Spirit of Yahweh came on him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and Yahweh delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Cushan- rishathaim. And the spirit of the Lord was in him, and he judged Israel. And he went out to fight, and the Lord delivered into his hands Chusan Rasathaim king of Syria, and he overthrew him.
Judges 3:11And the land had rest forty years; and Othniel the son of Kenaz died. The land had rest forty years. Othniel the son of Kenaz died. And the land rested forty years, and Othoniel the son of Cenez died.
Judges 3:12And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they did evil in the sight of Jehovah. The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh: and Yahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh. And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord: who strengthened against them Eglon king of Moab: because they did evil in his sight.
Judges 3:13And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek and went and smote Israel, and they took possession of the city of palm-trees.He gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and struck Israel, and they possessed the city of palm-trees.And he joined to him the children of Ammon, and Amalec: and he went and overthrew Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.
Judges 3:14And the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. The children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years. And the children of Israel served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years:
Judges 3:15And the children of Israel cried to Jehovah, and Jehovah raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a man left-handed. And by him the children of Israel sent a gift to Eglon king of Moab. But when the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised them up a savior, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed. The children of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab. And afterwards they cried to the Lord, who raised them up a saviour called Aod, the son of Gera, the son of Jemini, who used the left hand as well as the right. And the children of Israel sent presents to Eglon king of Moab by him.
Judges 3:16And Ehud made him a sword having two edges, it was of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right hip.Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length; and he girded it under his clothing on his right thigh. And he made himself a two-edged sword, with a haft in the midst of the length of the palm of the hand, and was girded therewith under his garment on the right thigh.
Judges 3:17And he brought the gift to Eglon king of Moab; now Eglon was a very fat man.He offered the tribute to Eglon king of Moab: now Eglon was a very fat man.And he presented the gifts to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was exceeding fat.
Judges 3:18And it came to pass when he had ended offering the gift, he sent away the people that had borne the gift. When he had made an end of offering the tribute, he sent away the people who bore the tribute. And when he had presented the gifts unto him, he followed his companions that came along with him.
Judges 3:19But he turned from the graven images that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret word unto thee, O king. And he said, Be silent! And all that stood by him went out from him.But he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand to you, king. He said, Keep silence. All who stood by him went out from him. Then returning from Galgal, where the idols were, be said to the king: I have a secret message to thee, O king. And he commanded silence: and all being gone out that were about him,
Judges 3:20And Ehud came to him; now he was sitting in the cool upper-chamber, which was for him alone. And Ehud said, I have a word from God unto thee. And he arose from the seat.Ehud came to him; and he was sitting by himself alone in the cool upper room. Ehud said, I have a message from God to you. He arose out of his seat.Aod went in to him: now he was sitting in a summer parlour alone, and he said: I have a word from God to thee. And he forthwith rose up from his throne,
Judges 3:21Then Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right hip, and thrust it into his belly;Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his body:And Aod put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly,
Judges 3:22and the haft also went in after the blade, and the fat closed upon the blade; for he did not draw the sword out of his belly, and it came out between the legs.and the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed on the blade, for he didn't draw the sword out of his body; and it came out behind. With such force that the haft went in after the blade into the wound, and was closed up with the abundance of fat. So that he did not draw out the dagger, but left it in his body as he had struck it in. And forthwith by the secret parts of nature the excrements of the belly came out.
Judges 3:23And Ehud went out into the portico, and shut the doors of the upper-chamber upon him, and bolted them. Then Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper room on him, and locked them. But Aod carefully shutting the doors of the parlour and locking them,
Judges 3:24And when he was gone out, the servants of the [king] came and saw, and behold, the doors of the upper-chamber were bolted. And they said, Surely he is covering his feet in the summer chamber. Now when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, behold, the doors of the upper room were locked; and they said, Surely he is covering his feet in the upper chamber.Went out by a postern door. And the king's servants going in, saw the doors of the parlour shut, and they said: Perhaps he is easing nature in his summer parlour.
Judges 3:25And they waited till they were ashamed; and behold, he opened not the doors of the upper-chamber, and they took the key, and opened [them], and behold, their lord lay dead on the earth. They waited until they were ashamed; and, behold, he didn't open the doors of the upper room: therefore they took the key, and opened [them], and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth. And waiting a long time till they were ashamed, and seeing that no man opened the door, they took a key: and opening, they found their lord lying dead on the ground.
Judges 3:26And Ehud had escaped while they lingered, and passed beyond the graven images, and escaped to Seirah.Ehud escaped while they waited, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped to Seirah. But Aod, while they were in confusion, escaped, and passed by the place of the idols, from whence he had returned. And he came to Seirath:
Judges 3:27And it came to pass when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them.It happened, when he had come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them. And forthwith he sounded the trumpet in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel went down with him, he himself going in the front.
Judges 3:28And he said to them, Follow after me, for Jehovah has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan toward Moab, and suffered no one to pass over.He said to them, Follow after me; for Yahweh has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. They went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and didn't allow a man to pass over. And he said to them: Follow me: for the Lord hath delivered our enemies the Moabites into our hands. And they went down after him, and seized upon the fords of the Jordan, which are in the way to Moab: and they suffered no man to pass over.
Judges 3:29And they slew the Moabites at that time, about ten thousand men, all fat, and all men of valour, and not a man escaped. They struck of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valor; and there escaped not a man.But they slew of the Moabites at that time, about ten thousand, all strong and Valiant men: none of them could escape.
Judges 3:30And Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest eighty years. So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. The land had rest eighty years. And Moab was humbled that day under the hand of Israel: and the land rested eighty years.
Judges 3:31And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath; and he smote the Philistines, six hundred men, with an ox-goad. And he also delivered Israel. After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad: and he also saved Israel. After him was Samgar the son of Anath, who slew of the Philistines six hundred men with a ploughshare: and he also defended Israel.
