Hebrews 7:1For this Melchisedec, King of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from smiting the kings, and blessed him;For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Hebrews 7:2to whom Abraham gave also the tenth portion of all; first being interpreted King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is King of peace;to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is King of peace;To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Hebrews 7:3without father, without mother, without genealogy; having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but assimilated to the Son of God, abides a priest continually.without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like to the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
Hebrews 7:4Now consider how great this [personage] was, to whom [even] the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth out of the spoils.Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best spoils.Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Hebrews 7:5And they indeed from among the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is from their brethren, though these are come out of the loins of Abraham:They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the loins of Abraham,And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they come from the loins of Abraham:
Hebrews 7:6but he who has no genealogy from them has tithed Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises.but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has taken tithes of Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes from Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
Hebrews 7:7But beyond all gainsaying, the inferior is blessed by the better.But without any dispute the less is blessed of the better.And without all contradiction the less is blessed by the better.
Hebrews 7:8And here dying men receive tithes; but there [one] of whom the witness is that he lives;Here men who die receive tithes, but there one, of whom it is testified that he lives.And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is testified that he liveth.
Hebrews 7:9and, so to speak, through Abraham, Levi also, who received tithes, has been made to pay tithes.So to say, through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,And as I may say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
Hebrews 7:10For he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchisedec met him.for he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
Hebrews 7:11If indeed then perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for the people had their law given to them in connexion with *it*, what need [was there] still that a different priest should arise according to the order of Melchisedec, and not be named after the order of Aaron?Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it have the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Hebrews 7:12For, the priesthood being changed, there takes place of necessity a change of law also.For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also of the law.For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
Hebrews 7:13For he, of whom these things are said, belongs to a different tribe, of which no one has [ever] been attached to the service of the altar.For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no man has given attendance at the altar.For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Hebrews 7:14For it is clear that our Lord has sprung out of Juda, as to which tribe Moses spake nothing as to priests.For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, as to which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.For it is evident that our Lord sprang from Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
Hebrews 7:15And it is yet more abundantly evident, since a different priest arises according to the similitude of Melchisedec,This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Hebrews 7:16who has been constituted not according to law of fleshly commandment, but according to power of indissoluble life.who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Hebrews 7:17For it is borne witness, *Thou* art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedec.for it is testified, "You are a priest forever, According to the order of Melchizedek."For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 7:18For there is a setting aside of the commandment going before for its weakness and unprofitableness,For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessnessFor there is verily a disannulling of the preceding commandment on account of its weakness and unprofitableness.
Hebrews 7:19(for the law perfected nothing,) and the introduction of a better hope by which we draw nigh to God.(for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in thereupon of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.For the law made nothing perfect, but the introduction of a better hope did; by which we draw nigh to God.
Hebrews 7:20And by how much [it was] not without the swearing of an oath;Inasmuch as it is not without the taking of an oath,And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
Hebrews 7:21(for they are become priests without the swearing of an oath, but he with the swearing of an oath, by him who said, as to him, The Lord has sworn, and will not repent [of it], *Thou* [art] priest for ever [according to the order of Melchisedec];)for they indeed have been made priests without an oath; but he with an oath by him that says of him, "The Lord swore and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever, According to the order of Melchizedek'".(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath, by him that said to him, The Lord swore, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)
Hebrews 7:22by so much Jesus became surety of a better covenant.By so much has Jesus become the collateral of a better covenant.By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
Hebrews 7:23And they have been many priests, on account of being hindered from continuing by death;Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
Hebrews 7:24but he, because of his continuing for ever, has the priesthood unchangeable.But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Hebrews 7:25Whence also he is able to save completely those who approach by him to God, always living to intercede for them.Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come to God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:26For such a high priest became us, holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and become higher than the heavens:For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Hebrews 7:27who has not day by day need, as the high priests, first to offer up sacrifices for his own sins, then [for] those of the people; for this he did once for all [in] having offered up himself.who doesn't need, like those high priests, to daily offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For this he did once for all, when he offered up himself.Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Hebrews 7:28For the law constitutes men high priests, having infirmity; but the word of the swearing of the oath which [is] after the law, a Son perfected for ever.For the law appoints men high priests, having infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, appoints a Son, perfected forevermore.For the law maketh men high priests who have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
