Mark 10:1And rising up thence he comes into the coasts of Judaea, and the other side of the Jordan. And again crowds come together to him, and, as he was accustomed, again he taught them.He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he taught them again.Soon on His feet once more, He enters the district of Judaea and crosses the Jordan: again the people flock to Him, and ere long, as was usual with Him, He was teaching them once more.
Mark 10:2And Pharisees coming to [him] asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away [his] wife? (tempting him).There came to him Pharisees testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"Presently a party of Pharisees come to Him with the question seeking to entrap Him, "May a man divorce his wife?"
Mark 10:3But he answering said to them, What did Moses command you?He answered, "What did Moses command you?""What rule did Moses lay down for you?" He answered.
Mark 10:4And they said, Moses allowed to write a bill of divorce, and to put away.They said, "Moses allowed a bill of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.""Moses," they said, "permitted a man to draw up a written notice of divorce, and to send his wife away."
Mark 10:5And Jesus answering said to them, In view of your hard-heartedness he wrote this commandment for you;But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment."It was in consideration of your stubborn hearts," said Jesus, "that Moses enacted this law for you;
Mark 10:6but from [the] beginning of [the] creation God made them male and female.But from the beginning of the creation, 'God made them male and female.but from the beginning of the creation the rule was, `Male and female did God make them.
Mark 10:7For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united to his wife,For this cause will a man leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cling to his wife,
Mark 10:8and the two shall be one flesh: so that they are no longer two but one flesh.and the two will become one flesh,' so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.and the two shall be one'; so that they are two no longer, but `one.'
Mark 10:9What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."What, therefore, God has joined together let not man separate."
Mark 10:10And again in the house the disciples asked him concerning this.In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter.Indoors the disciples began questioning Jesus again on the same subject.
Mark 10:11And he says to them, Whosoever shall put away his wife and shall marry another, commits adultery against her.He said to them, "Whoever will divorce his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her.He replied, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman, commits adultery against the first wife;
Mark 10:12And if a woman put away her husband and shall marry another, she commits adultery.If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."and if a woman puts away her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."
Mark 10:13And they brought little children to him that he might touch them. But the disciples rebuked those that brought [them].They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.One day people were bringing young children to Jesus for Him to touch them, but the disciples interfered.
Mark 10:14But Jesus seeing [it], was indignant, and said to them, Suffer the little children to come to me; forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God.But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don't forbid them, for to such belong the kingdom of God.Jesus, however, on seeing this, was moved to indignation, and said to them, "Let the little children come to me: do not hinder them; for to those who are childlike the Kingdom of God belongs.
Mark 10:15Verily I say to you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter into it.Most assuredly I tell you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he will in no way enter therein."In solemn truth I tell you that no one who does not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will by any possibility enter it."
Mark 10:16And having taken them in his arms, having laid his hands on them, he blessed them.He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.Then He took them in His arms and blessed them lovingly, one by one, laying His hands upon them.
Mark 10:17And as he went forth into the way, a person ran up to [him], and kneeling to him asked him, Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?As he was going forth into the way, one ran to him, kneeled to him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"As He went out to resume His journey, there came a man running up to Him, who knelt at His feet and asked, "Good Rabbi, what am I to do in order to inherit the Life of the Ages?"
Mark 10:18But Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? no one is good but one, [that is] God.Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one God."Why do you call me good?" asked Jesus in reply; "there is no one truly good except One that is, God.
Mark 10:19Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honour thy father and mother.You know the commandments: 'Do not murder,' 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and mother.'"You know the Commandments `Do not murder;' `Do not commit adultery;' `Do not steal;' `Do not lie in giving evidence;' `Do not defraud;' `Honour thy father and thy mother.'"
Mark 10:20And he answering said to him, Teacher, all these things have I kept from my youth.He said to him, "Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth.""Rabbi," he replied, "all these Commandments I have carefully obeyed from my youth."
Mark 10:21And Jesus looking upon him loved him, and said to him, One thing lackest thou: go, sell whatever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, [taking up the cross].Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."Then Jesus looked at him and loved him, and said, "One thing is lacking in you: go, sell all you possess and give the proceeds to the poor, and you shall have riches in Heaven; and come and be a follower of mine."
Mark 10:22But he, sad at the word, went away grieved, for he had large possessions.But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.At these words his brow darkened, and he went away sad; for he was possessed of great wealth.
Mark 10:23And Jesus looking around says to his disciples, How difficultly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!"Then looking round on His disciples Jesus said, "With how hard a struggle will the possessors of riches enter the Kingdom of God!"
Mark 10:24And the disciples were amazed at his words. And Jesus again answering says to them, Children, how difficult it is that those who trust in riches should enter into the kingdom of God!The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, "Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!The disciples were amazed at His words. Jesus, however, said again, "Children, how hard a struggle is it for those who trust in riches to enter the Kingdom of God!
Mark 10:25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.It is easier for a camel to go through the needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."
Mark 10:26And they were exceedingly astonished, saying to one another, And who can be saved?They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"They were astonished beyond measure, and said to one another, "Who then *can* be saved?"
Mark 10:27But Jesus looking on them says, With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.Jesus, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."Jesus looking on them said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for everything is possible with God."
Mark 10:28Peter began to say to him, Behold, *we* have left all things and have followed thee.Peter began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you.""Remember," said Peter to Him, "that we forsook everything and have become your followers."
Mark 10:29Jesus answering said, Verily I say to you, There is no one who has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, [or wife], or children, or lands, for my sake and for the sake of the gospel,Jesus said, "Most assuredly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the gospel's sake,"In solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that there is no one who has forsaken house or brothers or sisters, or mother or father, or children or lands, for my sake and for the sake of the Good News,
Mark 10:30that shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time: houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions, and in the coming age life eternal.but he will receive one hundred times now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.but will receive a hundred times as much now in this present life houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands and persecution with them and in the coming age the Life of the Ages.
Mark 10:31But many first shall be last, and the last first.But many who are first will be last; and the last first."But many who are now first will be last, and the last, first."
Mark 10:32And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going on before them; and they were amazed, and were afraid as they followed. And taking the twelve again to [him], he began to tell them what was going to happen to him:They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.They were still on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; they were full of wonder, and some, though they followed, did so with fear. Then, once more calling to Him the Twelve, He began to tell them what was about to happen to Him.
Mark 10:33Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered up to the chief priests and to the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him up to the nations:"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles."See," He said, "we are going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and the Scribes. They will condemn Him to death, and will hand Him over to the Gentiles;
Mark 10:34and they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him; and after three days he shall rise again.They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."they will insult Him in cruel sport, spit on Him, scourge Him, and put Him to death; but on the third day He will rise to life again."
Mark 10:35And there come to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying [to him], Teacher, we would that whatsoever we may ask thee, thou wouldst do it for us.James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."Then James and John, the sons of Zabdi, came up to Him and said, "Rabbi, we wish you would grant us whatever request we make of you."
Mark 10:36And he said to them, What would ye that I should do for you?He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?""What would you have me do for you?" He asked.
Mark 10:37And they said to him, Give to us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy glory.They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory.""Allow us," they replied, "to sit one at your right hand and the other at your left hand, in your glory."
Mark 10:38And Jesus said to them, Ye do not know what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup which *I* drink, or be baptised with the baptism that *I* am baptised with?But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?""You know not," said He, "what you are asking. Are you able to drink out of the cup from which I am to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am to be baptized?"
Mark 10:39And they said to him, We are able. And Jesus said to them, The cup that *I* drink ye will drink and with the baptism that *I* am baptised with ye will be baptised,They said to him, "We are able." Jesus said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;"We are able," they replied. "Out of the cup," said Jesus, "from which I am to drink you shall drink, and with the baptism with which I am to be baptized you shall be baptized;
Mark 10:40but to sit on my right hand or on my left is not mine to give, but for those for whom it is prepared.but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."but as to sitting at my right hand or at my left, that is not mine to give: it will be for those for whom it is reserved."
Mark 10:41And the ten having heard [of it], began to be indignant about James and John.When the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation towards James and John.The other ten, hearing of it, were at first highly indignant with James and John.
Mark 10:42But Jesus having called them to [him], says to them, Ye know that those who are esteemed to rule over the nations exercise lordship over them; and their great men exercise authority over them;Jesus called them to him, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.Jesus, however, called them to Him and said to them, "You are aware how those who are deemed rulers among the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men make them feel their authority;
Mark 10:43but it is not thus among you; but whosoever would be great among you, shall be your minister;But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you, will be your servant.but it is not to be so among you. No, whoever desires to be great among you must be your servant;
Mark 10:44and whosoever would be first of you shall be bondman of all.Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be servant of all.and whoever desires to be first among you must be the bondservant of all.
Mark 10:45For also the Son of man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and give his life a ransom for many.For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."For the Son of Man also did not come to be waited upon, but to wait on others, and to give His life as the redemption-price for a multitude of people."
Mark 10:46And they come to Jericho, and as he was going out from Jericho, and his disciples and a large crowd, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, the blind [man], sat by the wayside begging.They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.They came to Jericho; and as He was leaving that town Himself and His disciples and a great crowd Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the way-side.
Mark 10:47And having heard that it was Jesus the Nazaraean, he began to cry out and to say, O Son of David, Jesus, have mercy on me.When he heard that it was Jesus, the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, "Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!"Hearing that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me."
Mark 10:48And many rebuked him, that he might be silent; but he cried so much the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out the more a great deal, "You son of David, have mercy on me!"Many angrily told him to leave off shouting; but he only cried out all the louder, "Son of David, have pity on me."
Mark 10:49And Jesus, standing still, desired him to be called. And they call the blind [man], saying to him, Be of good courage, rise up, he calls thee.Jesus stood still, and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you."Then Jesus stood still. "Call him," He said. So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said; "rise, he is calling you."
Mark 10:50And, throwing away his garment, he started up and came to Jesus.He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.The man flung away his outer garment, sprang to his feet, and came to Jesus.
Mark 10:51And Jesus answering says to him, What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And the blind [man] said to him, Rabboni, that I may see.Jesus answered him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rhabboni, that I may see again.""What shall I do for you?" said Jesus. "Rabboni," replied the blind man, "let me recover my sight."
Mark 10:52And Jesus said to him, Go, thy faith has healed thee. And he saw immediately, and followed him in the way.Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way."Go," said Jesus, "your faith has cured you." Instantly he regained his sight, and followed Him along the road.
