Mark 14:1Now the passover and the [feast of] unleavened bread was after two days. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might seize him by subtlety and kill him.It was now two days before the feast of the Passover and the unleavened bread, and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might sieze him by deception, and kill him.It was now two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread, and the High Priests and Scribes were bent on finding how to seize Him by stratagem and put Him to death.
Mark 14:2For they said, Not in the feast, lest perhaps there be a tumult of the people.For they said, "Not during the feast, because there might be a riot of the people."But they said, "Not on the Festival-day, for fear there should be a riot among the people."
Mark 14:3And when he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he lay at table, there came a woman having an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly; and having broken the alabaster flask, she poured it out upon his head.While he was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster jar of ointment of pure nard very costly. She broke the jar, and poured it over his head.Now when He was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the Leper, while He was at table, there came a woman with a jar of pure, sweet-scented ointment very costly: she broke the jar and poured the ointment over His head.
Mark 14:4And there were some indignant in themselves, and saying, Why has this waste been made of the ointment?But there were some who had indignation among themselves, saying, "Why has this ointment been wasted?But there were some who said indignantly among themselves, "Why has the ointment been thus wasted?
Mark 14:5for this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor. And they spoke very angrily at her.For this might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor." They grumbled against her.For that ointment might have been sold for fifteen pounds or more, and the money have been given to the poor." And they were exceedingly angry with her.
Mark 14:6But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do ye trouble her? she has wrought a good work as to me;But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for me.But Jesus said, "Leave her alone: why are you troubling her? She has done a most gracious act towards me.
Mark 14:7for ye have the poor always with you, and whenever ye would ye can do them good; but me ye have not always.For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want to, you can do them good; but you will not always have me.For you always have the poor among you, and whenever you choose you can do acts of kindness to them; but me you have not always.
Mark 14:8What *she* could she has done. She has beforehand anointed my body for the burial.She has done what she could. She has anointed my body beforehand for the burying.What she could she did: she has perfumed my body in preparation for my burial.
Mark 14:9And verily I say unto you, Wheresoever these glad tidings may be preached in the whole world, what this [woman] has done shall be also spoken of for a memorial of her.Most assuredly I tell you, wherever this gospel may be preached throughout the whole world, that also which this woman has done will be spoken of for a memorial of her."And I solemnly tell you that wherever in the whole world the Good News shall be proclaimed, this which she has done shall also be told in remembrance of her."
Mark 14:10And Judas Iscariote, one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them;Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, that he might deliver him to them.But Judas Iscariot, already mentioned as one of the Twelve, went to the High Priests to betray Jesus to them.
Mark 14:11and they, when they heard it, rejoiced, and promised him to give money. And he sought how he could opportunely deliver him up.They, when they heard it, were glad, and promised to give him money. He sought how he might conveniently deliver him.They gladly listened to his proposal, and promised to give him a sum of money. So he looked out for an opportunity to betray Him.
Mark 14:12And the first day of unleavened bread, when they slew the passover, his disciples say to him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?On the first day of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the Passover, his disciples asked him, "Where do you want us to go and make ready that you may eat the Passover?"On the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread the day for killing the Passover lamb His disciples asked Him, "Where shall we go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
Mark 14:13And he sends two of his disciples, and says to them, Go into the city, and a man shall meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.He sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the city, and there you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him,So He sent two of His disciples with instructions, saying, "Go into the city, and you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water: follow him,
Mark 14:14And wheresoever he enters, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says, Where is my guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?and wherever he enters in, tell the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"'and whatever house he enters, tell the master of the house, `The Rabbi asks, Where is my room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?'
Mark 14:15and *he* will shew you a large upper room furnished ready. There make ready for us.He will himself show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make ready for us there."Then he will himself show you a large room upstairs, ready furnished: there make preparation for us."
Mark 14:16And his disciples went away and came into the city, and found as he had said to them; and they made ready the passover.His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found things as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.So the disciples went out and came to the city, and found everything just as He had told them; and they got the Passover ready.
Mark 14:17And when evening was come, he comes with the twelve.When it was evening he came with the twelve.When it was evening, He came with the Twelve.
Mark 14:18And as they lay at table and were eating, Jesus said, Verily I say to you, One of you shall deliver me up; he who is eating with me.As they sat and were eating, Jesus said, "Most assuredly I tell you, one of you will betray me he who eats with me."And while they were at table Jesus said, "I solemnly tell you that one of you will betray me one who is eating with me."
Mark 14:19And they began to be grieved, and to say to him, one by one, Is it *I*? [and another, Is it *I*?]They began to be sorrowful, and to ask him one by one, "Surely not I?" And another said, "Surely not I?"They were filled with sorrow, and began asking Him, one by one, "Not I, is it?"
Mark 14:20But he answered and said to them, One of the twelve, he who dips with me in the dish.He answered them, "It is one of the twelve, he who dips with me in the dish."It is one of the Twelve," He replied; "he who is dipping his fingers in the dish with me.
Mark 14:21The Son of man goes indeed as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is delivered up; [it were] good for that man if he had not been born.For the Son of Man goes, even as it is written about him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born."For the Son of Man is going His way as it is written about Him; but alas for the man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It had been a happy thing for that man, had he never been born."
Mark 14:22And as they were eating, Jesus, having taken bread, when he had blessed, broke [it], and gave [it] to them, and said, Take [this]: this is my body.As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had blessed, he broke it, and gave to them, and said, "Take, eat. This is my body."Also during the meal He took a Passover biscuit, blessed it, and broke it. He then gave it to them, saying, "Take this, it is my body."
Mark 14:23And having taken [the] cup, when he had given thanks, he gave [it] to them, and they all drank out of it.He took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave to them. They all drank of it.Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and handed it to them, and they all of them drank from it.
Mark 14:24And he said to them, This is my blood, that of the [new] covenant, that shed for many.He said to them, "This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many."This is my blood," He said, "which is to be poured out on behalf of many the blood which makes the Covenant sure.
Mark 14:25Verily I say to you, I will no more drink at all of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.Most assuredly I tell you, I will no more drink of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God."I solemnly tell you that never again will I taste the produce of the vine till I shall drink the new wine in the Kingdom of God."
Mark 14:26And having sung a hymn, they went out to the mount of Olives.When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Mark 14:27And Jesus says to them, All ye shall be offended, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad.Jesus said to them, "All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'Then said Jesus to them, "All of you are about to stumble and fall, for it is written, `I will strike down the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered in all directions.'
Mark 14:28But after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.However, after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee."But after I have risen to life again I will go before you into Galilee."
Mark 14:29But Peter said to him, Even if all should be offended, yet not *I*.But Peter said to him, "Although all will be offended, yet I will not.""All may stumble and fall," said Peter, "yet I never will."
Mark 14:30And Jesus says to him, Verily I say to thee, that thou to-day, in this night, before [the] cock shall crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me.Jesus said to him, "Most assuredly I tell you, that you today, even this night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times.""I solemnly tell you," replied Jesus, "that to-day this night before the cock crows twice, you yourself will three times disown me."
Mark 14:31But he said [so much] exceedingly the more, If I should have to die with thee, I will in no wise deny thee. And likewise said they all too.But he spoke all the more, "If I must die with you, I will not deny you." Likewise, they all said so."Even if I must die with you," declared Peter again and again, "I will never disown you." In like manner protested also all the disciples.
Mark 14:32And they come to a place of which the name [is] Gethsemane, and he says to his disciples, Sit here while I shall pray.They came to a place which was named Gethsemane. He said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I pray."So they came to a place called Gethsemane. There He said to His disciples, "Sit down here till I have prayed."
Mark 14:33And he takes with him Peter and James and John, and he began to be amazed and oppressed in spirit.He took with him Peter, James, and John, and began to be greatly alarmed and distressed.Then He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be full of terror and distress,
Mark 14:34And he says to them, My soul is full of grief even unto death; abide here and watch.He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch."and He said to them, "My heart is oppressed with anguish to the very point of death: wait here and keep awake."
Mark 14:35And, going forward a little, he fell upon the earth; and he prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.He went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass away from him.Going forward a short distance He threw Himself upon His face and prayed repeatedly that, if it was possible, He might be spared that time of agony;
Mark 14:36And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: take away this cup from me; but not what *I* will, but what *thou* [wilt].He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Please remove this cup from me. However, not what I want, but what you want."and He said, "Abba! my Father! all things are possible for Thee: take this cup of suffering away from me: and yet not what I desire, but what Thou desirest."
Mark 14:37And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, Simon, dost thou sleep? Hast thou not been able to watch one hour?He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn't you watch one hour?Then He came and found them asleep, and He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Had you not strength to keep awake a single hour?
Mark 14:38Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh weak.Watch and pray, that you not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."Be wakeful, all of you, and keep on praying, that you may not come into temptation: the spirit is right willing, but the body is frail."
Mark 14:39And going away, he prayed again, saying the same thing.Again he went away, and prayed, saying the same words.He again went away and prayed, using the very same words.
Mark 14:40And returning, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what they should answer him.Again he returned, and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they didn't know what to answer him.When He returned He again found them asleep, for they were very tired; and they knew not how to answer Him.
Mark 14:41And he comes the third time and says to them, Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough; the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.He came the third time, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.A third time He came, and then He said, "Sleep on and rest. Enough! the hour has come. Even now they are betraying the Son of Man into the hands of sinful men.
Mark 14:42Arise, let us go; behold, he that delivers me up has drawn nigh.Arise, let us be going. Behold, he who betrays me is at hand."Rouse yourselves, let us be going: my betrayer is close at hand."
Mark 14:43And immediately, while he was yet speaking, Judas comes up, [being] one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.Immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came and with him a multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.Immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came and with him a crowd of men armed with swords and cudgels, sent by the High Priests and Scribes and Elders.
Mark 14:44Now he that delivered him up had given them a sign between them, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; seize him, and lead [him] away safely.Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, "Whoever I will kiss, that is he. Take him, and lead him away safely."Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them. "The one I kiss," he said, "is the man: lay hold of him, and take him safely away."
Mark 14:45And being come, straightway coming up to him, he says, Rabbi, Rabbi; and he covered him with kisses.When he had come, immediately he came to him, and said, "Rabbi! Rabbi!" and kissed him.So he came, and going straight to Jesus he said, "Rabbi!" and kissed Him with seeming affection;
Mark 14:46And they laid their hands upon him and seized him.They laid their hands on him, and took him.whereupon they laid hands on Him and held Him firmly.
Mark 14:47But a certain one of those who stood by, having drawn his sword, struck the bondman of the high priest, and took off his ear.But a certain one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck a blow at the High Priest's servant, cutting off his ear.
Mark 14:48And Jesus answering said to them, Are ye come out as against a robber, with swords and sticks to take me?Jesus answered them, "Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to seize me?"Have you come out," said Jesus, "with swords and cudgels to arrest me, as if you had to fight with a robber?
Mark 14:49I was daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye did not seize me; but [it is] that the scriptures may be fulfilled.I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you didn't arrest me. But this is so that the scriptures might be fulfilled."Day after day I used to be among you in the Temple teaching, and you never seized me. But this is happening in order that the Scriptures may be fulfilled.'
Mark 14:50And all left him and fled.They all left him, and fled.Then His friends all forsook Him and fled.
Mark 14:51And a certain young man followed him with a linen cloth cast about his naked [body]; and [the young men] seize him;A certain young man followed with him, having a linen cloth thrown around him, over his naked body. The young men grabbed him,One youth indeed did follow Him, wearing only a linen cloth round his bare body. Of him they laid hold,
Mark 14:52but he, leaving the linen cloth behind [him], fled from them naked.but he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.but he left the linen cloth in their hands and fled without it.
Mark 14:53And they led away Jesus to the high priest. And there come together to him all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.They led Jesus away to the high priest. There came together with him all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes.So they led Jesus away to the High Priest, and with him there assembled all the High Priests, Elders, and Scribes.
Mark 14:54And Peter followed him at a distance, till [he was] within the court of the high priest's palace; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself in the light [of the fire].Peter had followed him afar off, until he came into the court of the high priest. He was sitting with the officers, and warming himself in the light of the fire.Peter followed Jesus at a distance, as far as the outer court of the High Priest's palace. But there he remained sitting among the officers, and warming himself by the fire.
Mark 14:55And the chief priests and the whole sanhedrim sought testimony against Jesus to cause him to be put to death, and did not find [any].Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witnesses against Jesus to put him to death, and found none.Meanwhile the High Priests and the entire Sanhedrin were endeavouring to get evidence against Jesus in order to put Him to death, but could find none;
Mark 14:56For many bore false witness against him, and their testimony did not agree.For many gave false testimony against him, and their testimony didn't agree with each other.for though many gave false testimony against Him, their statements did not tally.
Mark 14:57And certain persons rose up and bore false witness against him, saying,Some stood up, and gave false testimony against him, saying,Then some came forward as witnesses and falsely declared,
Mark 14:58*We* heard him saying, *I* will destroy this temple which is made with hands, and in the course of three days I will build another not made with hands."We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.'""We have heard him say, `I will pull down this Sanctuary built by human hands, and three days afterwards I will erect another built without hands.'"
Mark 14:59And neither thus did their testimony agree.Even so their testimony did not agree.But not even in this shape was their testimony consistent.
Mark 14:60And the high priest, rising up before them all, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? What do these testify against thee?The high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer? What is it which these testify against you?"At last the High Priest stood up, and advancing into the midst of them all, asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is the meaning of all this that these witnesses allege against you?"
Mark 14:61But he was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and says to him, *Thou* art the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?But he stayed quiet, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"But He remained silent, and gave no reply. A second time the High Priest questioned Him. "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" he said.
Mark 14:62And Jesus said, *I* am, and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.Jesus said, "I AM. You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of the sky.""I am," replied Jesus, "and you and others will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the divine Power, and coming amid the clouds of the sky."
Mark 14:63And the high priest, having rent his clothes, says, What need have we any more of witnesses?The high priest tore his clothes, and said, "What further need have we of witnesses?Rending his garments the High Priest exclaimed, "What need have we of witnesses after that?
Mark 14:64Ye have heard the blasphemy; what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?" They all condemned him to be worthy of death.You all heard his impious words. What is your judgement?" Then with one voice they condemned Him as deserving of death.
Mark 14:65And some began to spit upon him, and cover up his face, and buffet him, and say to him, Prophesy; and the officers struck him with the palms of their hands.Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with fists, and to tell him, "Prophesy!" The officers struck him with the palms of their hands.Thereupon some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, while striking Him with their fists and crying, "Prove that you are a prophet." The officers too struck Him with open hands as they took Him in charge.
Mark 14:66And Peter being below in the palace-court, there comes one of the maids of the high priest,As Peter was beneath in the court, one of the maids of the high priest came,Now while Peter was below in the quadrangle, one of the High Priest's maidservants came,
Mark 14:67and seeing Peter warming himself, having looked at him, says, And *thou* wast with the Nazarene, Jesus.and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and said, "You were also with the Nazarene, Jesus."and seeing Peter warming himself she looked at him and said, "You also were with Jesus, the Nazarene."
Mark 14:68But he denied, saying, I know not nor understand what thou sayest. And he went out into the vestibule; and a cock crew.But he denied it, saying, "I neither know, nor understand what you are saying." He went out into the porch, and the cock crowed.But he denied it, and said, "I don't know I don't understand What do you mean?" And then he went out into the outer court. Just then a cock crowed.
Mark 14:69And the maid, seeing him, again began to say to those that stood by, This is [one] of them.The maid saw him, and began again to tell those who stood by, "This is one of them."Again the maidservant saw him, and again began to say to the people standing by, "He is one of them."
Mark 14:70And he again denied. And again, after a little, those that stood by said to Peter, Truly thou art [one] of them, for also thou art a Galilean.But he again denied it. After a little while again those who stood by said to Peter, "You truly are one of them, for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it."A second time he repeatedly denied it. Soon afterwards the bystanders again accused Peter, saying, "You are surely one of them, for you too are a Galilaean."
Mark 14:71But he began to curse and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak.But he began to curse, and to swear, "I don't know this man of whom you speak!"But he broke out into curses and oaths, declaring, "I know nothing of the man you are talking about."
Mark 14:72And the second time a cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before [the] cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice; and when he thought thereon he wept.The cock crowed the second time. Peter remembered the word, how that Jesus said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times." When he thought about that, he wept.No sooner had he spoken than a cock crowed for the second time, and Peter recollected the words of Jesus, "Before the cock crows twice, you will three times disown me." And as he thought of it, he wept aloud.
