Matthew 7:1 | Judge not, that ye may not be judged; | "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. | "Judge not, that you may not be judged; |
Matthew 7:2 | for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you. | For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged: and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. | for your own judgement will be dealt and your own measure meted to yourselves. |
Matthew 7:3 | But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye? | Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye? | And why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, and not notice the beam which is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:4 | Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Allow [me], I will cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine eye? | Or how will you tell your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye;' and behold, the beam is in your own eye? | Or how say to your brother, `Allow me to take the splinter out of your eye,' while the beam is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:5 | Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the mote out of the eye of thy brother. | You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye. | Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the splinter from your brother's eye. |
Matthew 7:6 | Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them with their feet, and turning round rend you. | "Don't give that which is holy to the dogs, neither cast your pearls before the pigs, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. | "Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls to the swine; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and then turn and attack you. |
Matthew 7:7 | Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. | "Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you. | "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. |
Matthew 7:8 | For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. | For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. | For it is always he who asks that receives, he who seeks that finds, and he who knocks that has the door opened to him. |
Matthew 7:9 | Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; | Or what man is there of you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? | What man is there among you, who if his son shall ask him for bread will offer him a stone? |
Matthew 7:10 | and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent? | Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? | Or if the son shall ask him for a fish will offer him a snake? |
Matthew 7:11 | If therefore *ye*, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him? | If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! | If you then, imperfect as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! |
Matthew 7:12 | Therefore all things whatever ye desire that men should do to you, thus do *ye* also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. | Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. | Everything, therefore, be it what it may, that you would have men do to you, do you also the same to them; for in this the Law and the Prophets are summed up. |
Matthew 7:13 | Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it. | Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. | "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad the road which leads to ruin, and many there are who enter by it; |
Matthew 7:14 | For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it. | How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it. | because narrow is the gate and contracted the road which leads to Life, and few are those who find it. |
Matthew 7:15 | But beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves. | "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. | "Beware of the false teachers men who come to you in sheep's fleeces, but beneath that disguise they are ravenous wolves. |
Matthew 7:16 | By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather a bunch of grapes from thorns, or from thistles figs? | By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? | By their fruits you will easily recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thorns or figs from brambles? |
Matthew 7:17 | So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits. | Even so, every good tree brings forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. | Just so every good tree produces good fruit, but a poisonous tree produces bad fruit. |
Matthew 7:18 | A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits. | A good tree can't bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. | A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a poisonous tree good fruit. |
Matthew 7:19 | Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. | Every tree that doesn't grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. | Every tree which does not yield good fruit is cut down and thrown aside for burning. |
Matthew 7:20 | By their fruits then surely ye shall know them. | Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. | So by their fruits at any rate, you will easily recognize them. |
Matthew 7:21 | Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens. | Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. | "Not every one who says to me, `Master, Master,' will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens, but only those who are obedient to my Father who is in Heaven. |
Matthew 7:22 | Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through *thy* name, and through *thy* name cast out demons, and through *thy* name done many works of power? | Many will tell me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy by your name, by your name cast out demons, and by your name do many mighty works?' | Many will say to me on that day, "`Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Thy name, and in Thy name expelled demons, and in Thy name performed many mighty works?' |
Matthew 7:23 | and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness. | Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.' | "And then I will tell them plainly, "`I never knew you: begone from me, you doers of wickedness.' |
Matthew 7:24 | Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; | "Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock. | "Every one who hears these my teachings and acts upon them will be found to resemble a wise man who builds his house upon rock; |
Matthew 7:25 | and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. | The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn't fall, for it was founded on the rock. | and the heavy rain falls, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and beat against the house; yet it does not fall, for its foundation is on rock. |
Matthew 7:26 | And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; | Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn't do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand. | And every one who hears these my teachings and does not act upon them will be found to resemble a fool who builds his house upon sand. |
Matthew 7:27 | and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great. | The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell and great was its fall." | The heavy rain descends, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and burst upon the house, and it falls; and disastrous is the fall." |
Matthew 7:28 | And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine, | It happened, when Jesus had finished saying these things, that the multitudes were astonished at his teaching, | When Jesus had concluded this discourse, the crowds were filled with amazement at His teaching, |
Matthew 7:29 | for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes. | for he taught them with authority, and not like the scribes. | for He had been teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their Scribes taught. |
