Acts 19:1And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper districts, came to Ephesus, and finding certain disciples,It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.And it came to pass, in Apollos` being in Corinth, Paul having gone through the upper parts, came to Ephesus, and having found certain disciples,
Acts 19:2he said to them, Did ye receive [the] Holy Spirit when ye had believed? And they [said] to him, We did not even hear if [the] Holy Spirit was [come].He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They said to him, "No, we did not so much as hear whether there is a Holy Spirit."he said unto them, `The Holy Spirit did ye receive having believed?` and they said unto him, `But we did not even hear whether there is any Holy Spirit;`
Acts 19:3And he said, To what then were ye baptised? And they said, To the baptism of John.He said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism."and he said unto them, `To what, then, were ye baptized?` and they said, `To John`s baptism.`
Acts 19:4And Paul said, John indeed baptised [with] the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on him that was coming after him, that is, on Jesus.Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, on Jesus."And Paul said, `John, indeed, did baptize with a baptism of reformation, saying to the people that in him who is coming after him they should believe that is, in the Christ Jesus;`
Acts 19:5And when they heard that, they were baptised to the name of the Lord Jesus.When they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.and they, having heard, were baptized to the name of the Lord Jesus,
Acts 19:6And Paul having laid [his] hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages, and prophesied.and Paul having laid on them [his] hands, the Holy Spirit came upon them, they were speaking also with tongues, and prophesying,
Acts 19:7And all the men were about twelve.They were about twelve men in all.and all the men were, as it were, twelve.
Acts 19:8And entering into the synagogue, he spoke boldly during three months, reasoning and persuading [the things] concerning the kingdom of God.He entered into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning the kingdom of God.And having gone into the synagogue, he was speaking boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading the things concerning the reign of God,
Acts 19:9But when some were hardened and disbelieved, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, he left them and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.and when certain were hardened and were disbelieving, speaking evil of the way before the multitude, having departed from them, he did separate the disciples, every day reasoning in the school of a certain Tyrannus.
Acts 19:10And this took place for two years, so that all that inhabited Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.This continued for the space of two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.And this happened for two years so that all those dwelling in Asia did hear the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks,
Acts 19:11And God wrought no ordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul,mighty works also not common was God working through the hands of Paul,
Acts 19:12so that even napkins or aprons were brought from his body [and put] upon the sick, and the diseases left them, and the wicked spirits went out.insomuch that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the evil spirits went out.so that even unto the ailing were brought from his body handkerchiefs or aprons, and the sicknesses departed from them; the evil spirits also went forth from them.
Acts 19:13And certain of the Jewish exorcists also, who went about, took in hand to call upon those who had wicked spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, I adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preaches.But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches."And certain of the wandering exorcist Jews, took upon [them] to name over those having the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, `We adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul doth preach;`
Acts 19:14And there were certain [men], seven sons of Sceva, Jewish high priest, who were doing this.There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.and there were certain seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest who are doing this thing;
Acts 19:15But the wicked spirit answering said to them, Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with; but *ye*, who are ye?The evil spirit answered, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?"and the evil spirit, answering, said, `Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with; and ye who are ye?`
Acts 19:16And the man in whom the wicked spirit was leaped upon them, and having mastered both, prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaping upon them, and having overcome them, prevailed against them, so that naked and wounded they did flee out of that house,
Acts 19:17And this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who inhabited Ephesus, and fear fell upon all of them, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.and this became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who are dwelling at Ephesus, and fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified,
Acts 19:18And many of those that believed came confessing and declaring their deeds.Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.many also of those who did believe were coming, confessing and declaring their acts,
Acts 19:19And many of those that practised curious arts brought their books [of charms] and burnt them before all. And they reckoned up the prices of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.Not a few of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.and many of those who had practised the curious arts, having brought the books together, were burning [them] before all; and they reckoned together the prices of them, and found [it] five myriads of silverlings;
Acts 19:20Thus with might the word of the Lord increased and prevailed.So the word of the Lord was growing and becoming mighty.so powerfully was the word of God increasing and prevailing.
Acts 19:21And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in his spirit to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, After I have been there I must see Rome also.Now after these things had ended, Paul determined in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."And when these things were fulfilled, Paul purposed in the Spirit, having gone through Macedonia and Achaia, to go on to Jerusalem, saying `After my being there, it behoveth me also to see Rome;`
Acts 19:22And having sent into Macedonia two of those ministering to him, Timotheus and Erastus, he remained himself awhile in Asia.Having sent into Macedonia two of those who ministered to him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.and having sent to Macedonia two of those ministering to him Timotheus and Erastus he himself stayed a time in Asia.
Acts 19:23And there took place at that time no small disturbance about the way.About that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way.And there came, at that time, not a little stir about the way,
Acts 19:24For a certain [man] by name Demetrius, a silver-beater, making silver temples of Artemis, brought no small gain to the artisans;For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen,for a certain one, Demetrius by name, a worker in silver, making silver sanctuaries of Artemis, was bringing to the artificers gain not a little,
Acts 19:25whom having brought together, and those who wrought in such things, he said, Men, ye know that our well-living arises from this work,whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.whom, having brought in a crowd together, and those who did work about such things, he said, `Men, ye know that by this work we have our wealth;
Acts 19:26and ye see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a great crowd, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying that they are no gods which are made with hands.You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.and ye see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but almost in all Asia, this Paul, having persuaded, did turn away a great multitude, saying, that they are not gods who are made by hands;
Acts 19:27Now not only there is danger for us that our business come into discredit, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis be counted for nothing, and that her greatness should be destroyed whom the whole of Asia and the world reveres.Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing, and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships."and not only is this department in danger for us of coming into disregard, but also, that of the great goddess Artemis the temple is to be reckoned for nothing, and also her greatness is about to be brought down, whom all Asia and the world doth worship.`
Acts 19:28And having heard [this], and being filled with rage, they cried out, saying, Great [is] Artemis of the Ephesians.When they heard this they were filled with wrath, and cried out, saying, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"And they having heard, and having become full of wrath, were crying out, saying, `Great [is] the Artemis of the Ephesians!`
Acts 19:29And the [whole] city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord to the theatre, having seized and carried off with [them] Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, fellow-travellers of Paul.The whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.and the whole city was filled with confusion, they rushed also with one accord into the theatre, having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul`s fellow-travellers.
Acts 19:30But Paul intending to go in to the people, the disciples suffered him not;When Paul wanted to enter in to the people, the disciples didn't allow him.And on Paul`s purposing to enter in unto the populace, the disciples were not suffering him,
Acts 19:31and some of the Asiarchs also, who were his friends, sent to him and urged him not to throw himself into the theatre.Certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent to him and begged him not to venture into the theater.and certain also of the chief men of Asia, being his friends, having sent unto him, were entreating him not to venture himself into the theatre.
Acts 19:32Different persons therefore cried out some different thing; for the assembly was tumultuous, and the most did not know for what cause they had come together.Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was in confusion. Most of them didn't know why they had come together.Some indeed, therefore, were calling out one thing, and some another, for the assembly was confused, and the greater part did not know for what they were come together;
Acts 19:33But from among the crowd they put forward Alexander, the Jews pushing him forward. And Alexander, beckoning with his hand, would have made a defence to the people.They brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made a defense to the people.and out of the multitude they put forward Alexander the Jews thrusting him forward and Alexander having beckoned with the hand, wished to make defence to the populace,
Acts 19:34But, recognising that he was a Jew, there was one cry from all, shouting for about two hours, Great [is] Artemis of the Ephesians.But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!"and having known that he is a Jew, one voice came out of all, for about two hours, crying, `Great [is] the Artemis of the Ephesians!`
Acts 19:35And the townclerk, having quieted the crowd, said, Ephesians, what man is there then who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of Artemis the great, and of the [image] which fell down from heaven?When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, "You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn't know that the city of the Ephesians is temple-keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?And the public clerk having quieted the multitude, saith, `Men, Ephesians, why, who is the man that doth not know that the city of the Ephesians is a devotee of the great goddess Artemis, and of that which fell down from Zeus?
Acts 19:36These things therefore being undeniable, it is necessary that ye should be calm and do nothing headlong.Seeing then that these things can't be denied, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash.these things, then, not being to be gainsaid, it is necessary for you to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
Acts 19:37For ye have brought these men, [who are] neither temple-plunderers, nor speak injuriously of your goddess.For you have brought these men here, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess.`For ye brought these men, who are neither temple-robbers nor speaking evil of your goddess;
Acts 19:38If therefore Demetrius and the artisans who [are] with him have a matter against any one, the courts are being held, and there are proconsuls: let them accuse one another.If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him, have a matter against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.if indeed, therefore, Demetrius and the artificers with him with any one have a matter, court [days] are held, and there are proconsuls; let them accuse one another.
Acts 19:39But if ye inquire anything concerning other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.`And if ye seek after anything concerning other matters, in the legal assembly it shall be determined;
Acts 19:40For also we are in danger to be put in accusation for sedition for this [affair] of to-day, no cause existing in reference to which we shall be able to give a reason for this concourse.For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning this day's riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn't be able to give an account of this commotion."for we are also in peril of being accused of insurrection in regard to this day, there being no occasion by which we shall be able to give an account of this concourse;`
Acts 19:41And having said these things, he dismissed the assembly.When he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.and these things having said, he dismissed the assembly.
