John 2:1 | And on the third day a marriage took place in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. | And the third day a marriage happened in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there, | On the third day two people were going to be married at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there: |
John 2:2 | And Jesus also, and his disciples, were invited to the marriage. | and also Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage; | And Jesus with his disciples came as guests. |
John 2:3 | And wine being deficient, the mother of Jesus says to him, They have no wine. | and wine having failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, `Wine they have not;` | When they had not enough wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine. |
John 2:4 | Jesus says to her, What have I to do with thee, woman? mine hour has not yet come. | Jesus saith to her, `What to me and to thee, woman? not yet is mine hour come.` | Jesus said to her, Woman, this is not your business; my time is still to come. |
John 2:5 | His mother says to the servants, Whatever he may say to you, do. | His mother saith to the ministrants, `Whatever he may say to you do.` | His mother said to the servants, Whatever he says to you, do it. |
John 2:6 | Now there were standing there six stone water-vessels, according to the purification of the Jews, holding two or three measures each. | And there were there six water-jugs of stone, placed according to the purifying of the Jews, holding each two or three measures. | Now six pots of stone, every one taking two or three firkins of water, were placed there for the purpose of washing, as is the way of the Jews. |
John 2:7 | Jesus says to them, Fill the water-vessels with water. And they filled them up to the brim. | Jesus saith to them, `Fill the water-jugs with water;` and they filled them unto the brim; | Jesus said to the servants, Make the pots full of water. And they made them full to the top. |
John 2:8 | And he says to them, Draw out now, and carry [it] to the feast-master. And they carried [it]. | and he saith to them, `Draw out, now, and bear to the director of the apartment;` and they bare. | Then he said to them, Now take some, and give it to the master of the feast. So they took it to him. |
John 2:9 | But when the feast-master had tasted the water which had been made wine (and knew not whence it was, but the servants knew who drew the water), the feast-master calls the bridegroom, | And as the director of the apartment tasted the water become wine, and knew not whence it is, (but the ministrants knew, who have drawn the water,) the director of the feast doth call the bridegroom, | After tasting the water which had now become wine, the master of the feast (having no idea where it came from, though it was clear to the servants who took the water out) sent for the newly-married man, |
John 2:10 | and says to him, Every man sets on first the good wine, and when [men] have well drunk, then the inferior; thou hast kept the good wine till now. | and saith to him, `Every man, at first, the good wine doth set forth; and when they may have drunk freely, then the inferior; thou didst keep the good wine till now.` | And said to him, Every man first puts out his best wine and when all have had enough he puts out what is not so good; but you have kept the good wine till now. |
John 2:11 | This beginning of signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him. | This beginning of the signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him; | This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee and let his glory be seen openly; and his disciples put their faith in him. |
John 2:12 | After this he descended to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brethren and his disciples; and there they abode not many days. | after this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they remained not many days. | After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they were there not more than two or three days. |
John 2:13 | And the passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. | And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, | The time of the Passover of the Jews was near and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. |
John 2:14 | And he found in the temple the sellers of oxen and sheep and doves, and the money-changers sitting; | and he found in the temple those selling oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting, | And there in the Temple he saw men trading in oxen and sheep and doves, and he saw the changers of money in their seats: |
John 2:15 | and, having made a scourge of cords, he cast [them] all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the change of the money-changers, and overturned the tables, | and having made a whip of small cords, he put all forth out of the temple, also the sheep, and the oxen; and of the money-changers he poured out the coins, and the tables he overthrew, | And he made a whip of small cords and put them all out of the Temple, with the sheep and the oxen, sending in all directions the small money of the changers and overturning their tables; |
John 2:16 | and said to the sellers of doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house a house of merchandise. | and to those selling the doves he said, `Take these things hence; make not the house of my Father a house of merchandise.` | And to those who were trading in doves he said, Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a market. |
John 2:17 | [And] his disciples remembered that it is written, The zeal of thy house devours me. | And his disciples remembered that it is written, `The zeal of Thy house did eat me up;` | And it came to the minds of the disciples that the Writings say, I am on fire with passion for your house. |
John 2:18 | The Jews therefore answered and said to him, What sign shewest thou to us, that thou doest these things? | the Jews then answered and said to him, `What sign dost thou shew to us that thou dost these things?` | Then the Jews put this question to him: What sign of authority have you to give us, seeing that you do these things? |
John 2:19 | Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. | Jesus answered and said to them, `Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.` | And Jesus said to them, Send destruction on this Temple and I will put it up again in three days. |
John 2:20 | The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple building, and thou wilt raise it up in three days? | The Jews, therefore, said, `Forty and six years was this sanctuary building, and wilt thou in three days raise it up?` | The Jews said, The building of this Temple took forty-six years; and you will put it up in three days! |
John 2:21 | But *he* spoke of the temple of his body. | but he spake concerning the sanctuary of his body; | But his words were about that holy building which was his body. |
John 2:22 | When therefore he was raised from among [the] dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken. | when, then, he was raised out of the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this to them, and they believed the Writing, and the word that Jesus said. | So when he had come back again from the dead, the memory of these words came back to the disciples, and they had faith in the holy Writings and in the word which Jesus had said. |
John 2:23 | And when he was in Jerusalem, at the passover, at the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he wrought. | And as he was in Jerusalem, in the passover, in the feast, many believed in his name, beholding his signs that he was doing; | Now while he was in Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover, a great number of people came to have faith in his name, after seeing the signs which he did. |
John 2:24 | But Jesus himself did not trust himself to them, because he knew all [men], | and Jesus himself was not trusting himself to them, because of his knowing all [men], | But Jesus did not have faith in them, because he had knowledge of them all. |
John 2:25 | and that he had not need that any should testify of man, for himself knew what was in man. | and because he had no need that any should testify concerning man, for he himself was knowing what was in man. | He had no need for any witness about man; for he himself had knowledge of what was in man. |
