Philemon 1:1Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker,Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,
Philemon 1:2and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.and Apphia the beloved, and Archippus our fellow-soldier, and the assembly in thy house:And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I thank my God, always making mention of thee at my prayers,I give thanks to my God, always making mention of thee in my prayers,I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,
Philemon 1:5hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,hearing of thy love and faith that thou hast unto the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;
Philemon 1:6in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].that the fellowship of thy faith may become working in the full knowledge of every good thing that [is] in you toward Christ Jesus;That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.
Philemon 1:7For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.for we have much joy and comfort in thy love, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,Wherefore, having in Christ much boldness to command thee that which is fitAnd so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,
Philemon 1:9for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.because of the love I rather entreat, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ;Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:
Philemon 1:10I exhort thee for *my* child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,I entreat thee concerning my child whom I did beget in my bonds Onesimus,My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,
Philemon 1:11once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:who once was to thee unprofitable, and now is profitable to me and to thee,Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:
Philemon 1:12whom I have sent back to thee: [but do *thou* receive] him, that is, *my* bowels:whom I did send again, and thou him (that is, my own bowels) receive,Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:
Philemon 1:13whom *I* was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;whom I did wish to retain to myself, that in thy behalf he might minister to me in the bonds of the good news,Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:
Philemon 1:14but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:and apart from thy mind I willed to do nothing, that as of necessity thy good deed may not be, but of willingness,But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.
Philemon 1:15for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;for perhaps because of this he did depart for an hour, that age-duringly thou mayest have him,For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;
Philemon 1:16not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?no more as a servant, but above a servant a brother beloved, especially to me, and how much more to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord!No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.
Philemon 1:17If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;If, then, with me thou hast fellowship, receive him as me,If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.
Philemon 1:18but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.and if he did hurt to thee, or doth owe anything, this to me be reckoning;If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.
Philemon 1:19*I* Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; *I* will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.I, Paul did write with my hand, I I will repay; that I may not say that also thyself, besides, to me thou dost owe.I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother, *I* would have profit of *thee* in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.Yes, brother, may I have profit of thee in the Lord; refresh my bowels in the Lord;So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.
Philemon 1:21Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.having been confident in thy obedience I did write to thee, having known that also above what I may say thou wilt do;Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.and at the same time also prepare for me a lodging, for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted to you.And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.
Philemon 1:23Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;Salute thee doth Epaphras, (my fellow-captive in Christ Jesus,)Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;
Philemon 1:24Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workmen.Markus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lukas, my fellow-workmen!And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [is] with your spirit! Amen.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.
