| Romans 4:1 | What shall we say then that Abraham our father according to flesh has found? | What, then, shall we say Abraham our father, to have found, according to flesh? | What, then, may we say that Abraham, our father after the flesh, has got? |
| Romans 4:2 | For if Abraham has been justified on the principle of works, he has whereof to boast: but not before God; | for if Abraham by works was declared righteous, he hath to boast but not before god; | For if Abraham got righteousness by works, he has reason for pride; but not before God. |
| Romans 4:3 | for what does the scripture say? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. | for what doth the writing say? `And Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him to righteousness;` | But what does it say in the holy Writings? And Abraham had faith in God, and it was put to his account as righteousness. |
| Romans 4:4 | Now to him that works the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but of debt: | and to him who is working, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt; | Now, the reward is credited to him who does works, not as of grace but as a debt. |
| Romans 4:5 | but to him who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness. | and to him who is not working, and is believing upon Him who is declaring righteous the impious, his faith is reckoned to righteousness: | But to him who without working has faith in him who gives righteousness to the evil-doer, his faith is put to his account as righteousness. |

| Romans 4:7 | Blessed [they] whose lawlessnesses have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered: | `Happy they whose lawless acts were forgiven, and whose sins were covered; | Happy are those who have forgiveness for their wrongdoing, and whose sins are covered. |
| Romans 4:8 | blessed [the] man to whom [the] Lord shall not at all reckon sin. | happy the man to whom the Lord may not reckon sin.` | Happy is the man against whom no sin is recorded by the Lord. |
| Romans 4:9 | [Does] this blessedness then [rest] on the circumcision, or also on the uncircumcision? For we say that faith has been reckoned to Abraham as righteousness. | [Is] this happiness, then, upon the circumcision, or also upon the uncircumcision for we say that the faith was reckoned to Abraham to righteousness? | Is this blessing, then, for the circumcision only, or in the same way for those who have not circumcision? for we say that the faith of Abraham was put to his account as righteousness. |

Not when he had it, but when he did not have it: |
| Romans 4:11 | And he received [the] sign of circumcision [as] seal of the righteousness of faith which [he had] being in uncircumcision, that he might be [the] father of all them that believe being in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned to them also; | and a sign he did receive of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith in the uncircumcision, for his being father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for the righteousness also being reckoned to them, | And he was given the sign of circumcision as a witness of the faith which he had before he underwent circumcision: so that he might be the father of all those who have faith, though they have not circumcision, and so that righteousness might be put to their account; |
| Romans 4:12 | and father of circumcision, not only to those who are of [the] circumcision, but to those also who walk in the steps of the faith, during uncircumcision, of our father Abraham. | and father of circumcision to those not of circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of the faith, that [is] in the uncircumcision of our father Abraham. | And the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who keep to the way of that faith which our father Abraham had before he underwent circumcision. |
| Romans 4:13 | For [it was] not by law that the promise was to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of [the] world, but by righteousness of faith. | For not through law [is] the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, of his being heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith; | For God's word, that the earth would be his heritage, was given to Abraham, not through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. |
| Romans 4:14 | For if they which [are] of law be heirs, faith is made vain, and the promise made of no effect. | for if they who are of law [are] heirs, the faith hath been made void, and the promise hath been made useless; | For if they who are of the law are the people who get the heritage, then faith is made of no use, and the word of God has no power; |
| Romans 4:15 | For law works wrath; but where no law is neither [is there] transgression. | for the law doth work wrath; for where law is not, neither [is] transgression. | For the outcome of the law is wrath; but where there is no law it will not be broken. |
| Romans 4:16 | Therefore [it is] on the principle of faith, that [it might be] according to grace, in order to the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that only which [is] of the law, but to that also which [is] of Abraham's faith, who is father of us all, | Because of this [it is] of faith, that [it may be] according to grace, for the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that which [is] of the law only, but also to that which [is] of the faith of Abraham, | For this reason it is of faith, so that it may be through grace; and so that the word of God may be certain to all the seed; not only to that which is of the law, but to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, |
| Romans 4:17 | (according as it is written, I have made thee father of many nations,) before the God whom he believed, who quickens the dead, and calls the things which be not as being; | who is father of us all (according as it hath been written `A father of many nations I have set thee,`) before Him whom he did believe God, who is quickening the dead, and is calling the things that be not as being. | (As it is said in the holy Writings, I have made you a father of a number of nations) before him in whom he had faith, that is, God, who gives life to the dead, and to whom the things which are not are as if they were. |
| Romans 4:18 | who against hope believed in hope to his becoming father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be: | Who, against hope in hope did believe, for his becoming father of many nations according to that spoken: `So shall thy seed be;` | Who without reason for hope, in faith went on hoping, so that he became the father of a number of nations, as it had been said, So will your seed be. |
