Titus 1:3but has manifested in its own due season his word, in [the] proclamation with which *I* have been entrusted, according to [the] commandment of our Saviour God;(and He manifested in proper times His word,) in preaching, which I was entrusted with, according to a charge of God our Saviour,Who, in his time, made clear his word in the good news, of which, by the order of God our Saviour, I became a preacher;
Titus 1:4to Titus, my own child according to [the] faith common [to us]: Grace and peace from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Saviour.to Titus true child according to a common faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour!To Titus, my true child in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.
Titus 1:5For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou mightest go on to set right what remained [unordered], and establish elders in each city, as *I* had ordered thee:For this cause left I thee in Crete, that the things lacking thou mayest arrange, and mayest set down in every city elders, as I did appoint to thee;I did not take you with me when I went away from Crete, so that you might do what was necessary to put things in order there, placing men in authority over the churches in every town, as I said to you;
Titus 1:6if any one be free from all charge [against him], husband of one wife, having believing children not accused of excess or unruly.if any one is blameless, of one wife a husband, having children stedfast, not under accusation of riotous living or insubordinateMen having a good record, husbands of one wife, whose children are of the faith, children of whom it may not be said that they are given to loose living or are uncontrolled.
Titus 1:7For the overseer must be free from all charge [against him] as God's steward; not headstrong, not passionate, not disorderly through wine, not a striker, not seeking gain by base means;for it behoveth the overseer to be blameless, as God`s steward, not self-pleased, nor irascible, not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre;For it is necessary for a Bishop to be a man of virtue, as God's servant; not pushing himself forward, not quickly moved to wrath or blows, not desiring profit for himself;
Titus 1:8but hospitable, a lover of goodness, discreet, just, pious, temperate,but a lover of strangers, a lover of good men, sober-minded, righteous, kind, self-controlled,But opening his house freely to guests; a lover of what is good, serious-minded, upright, holy, self-controlled;
Titus 1:9clinging to the faithful word according to the doctrine taught, that he may be able both to encourage with sound teaching and refute gainsayers.holding according to the teaching to the stedfast word, that he may be able also to exhort in the sound teaching, and the gainsayers to convict;Keeping to the true word of the teaching, so that he may be able to give comfort by right teaching and overcome the arguments of the doubters.
Titus 1:10For there are many and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of [the] circumcision,for there are many both insubordinate, vain-talkers, and mind-deceivers especially they of the circumcisionFor there are men who are not ruled by law; foolish talkers, false teachers, specially those of the circumcision,
Titus 1:11who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which ought not [to be taught] for the sake of base gain.whose mouth it behoveth to stop, who whole households do overturn, teaching what things it behoveth not, for filthy lucre`s sake.By whom some families have been completely overturned; who take money for teaching things which are not right; these will have to be stopped.
Titus 1:12One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said, Cretans are always liars, evil wild beasts, lazy gluttons.A certain one of them, a prophet of their own, said `Cretans! always liars, evil beasts, lazy bellies!`One of their prophets has said, The men of Crete are ever false, evil beasts, lovers of food, hating work.
Titus 1:13This testimony is true; for which cause rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith,this testimony is true; for which cause convict them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,This witness is true. So say sharp words to them so that they may come to the right faith,
Titus 1:14not turning [their] minds to Jewish fables and commandments of men turning away from the truth.not giving heed to Jewish fables and commands of men, turning themselves away from the truth;Giving no attention to the fictions of the Jews and the rules of men who have no true knowledge.
Titus 1:15All things [are] pure to the pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving nothing [is] pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.all things, indeed, [are] pure to the pure, and to the defiled and unstedfast [is] nothing pure, but of them defiled [are] even the mind and the conscience;To the clean in heart all things are clean: but to those who are unclean and without faith nothing is clean; they become unclean in mind and in thought.
Titus 1:16They profess to know God, but in works deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and found worthless as to every good work.God they profess to know, and in the works they deny [Him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work disapproved.They say that they have knowledge of God, while by their acts they are turning their backs on him; they are hated by all, hard-hearted, and judged to be without value for any good work.
