2nd-Samuel 1:1And it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, that David abode two days in Ziklag.And it cometh to pass, after the death of Saul, that David hath returned from smiting the Amalekite, and David dwelleth in Ziklag two days,Now it came to pass, after Saul was dead, that David returned from the slaughter of the Amalecites, and abode two days in Siceleg.
2nd-Samuel 1:2And it came to pass on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his garments rent, and earth upon his head; and as soon as he came to David, he fell to the earth and did obeisance.and it cometh to pass, on the third day, that lo, a man hath come in out of the camp from Saul, and his garments [are] rent, and earth on his head; and it cometh to pass, in his coming in unto David, that he falleth to the earth, and doth obeisance.And on the third day, there appeared a man who came out of Saul's camp, with his garments rent, and dust strewed on his head: and when he came to David, he fell upon his face, and adored.
2nd-Samuel 1:3And David said to him, Whence comest thou? And he said to him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.And David saith to him, `Whence comest thou?` and he saith unto him, `Out of the camp of Israel I have escaped.`And David said to him: From whence comest thou? And he said to him: I am fled out of the camp of Israel.
2nd-Samuel 1:4And David said to him, What has taken place? I pray thee, tell me. And he said that the people had fled from the battle, and many of the people also had fallen and died, and that Saul and Jonathan his son were dead also.And David saith unto him, `What hath been the matter? declare, I pray thee, to me.` And he saith, that `The people hath fled from the battle, and also a multitude hath fallen of the people, and they die; and also Saul and Jonathan his son have died.`And David said unto him: What is the matter that is come to pass? tell me. He said: The people are fled from the battle, and many of the people are fallen and dead: moreover Saul and Jonathan his son are slain.
2nd-Samuel 1:5And David said to the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?And David saith unto the youth who is declaring [it] to him, `How hast thou known that Saul and Jonathan his son [are] dead?`And David said to the young man that told him: How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son, are dead?
2nd-Samuel 1:6And the young man that told him said, I happened by chance to be upon mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul leaned on his spear; and behold, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.And the youth who is declaring [it] to him saith, I happened to meet in mount Gilboa, and lo, Saul is leaning on his spear; and lo, the chariots and those possessing horses have followed him;And the young man that told him, said: I came by chance upon mount Gelboe, and Saul leaned upon his spear: and the chariots and horsemen drew nigh unto him,
2nd-Samuel 1:7And he looked behind him, and saw me, and called to me. And I said, Here am I.and he turneth behind him, and seeth me, and calleth unto me, and I say, Here [am] I.And looking behind him, and seeing me, he called me. And I answered, Here am I.
2nd-Samuel 1:8And he said to me, Who art thou? And I said to him, I am an Amalekite.And he saith to me, Who [art] thou? and I say unto him, An Amalekite I [am].`And he said to me: Who art thou? And I said to him: I am an Amalecite.
2nd-Samuel 1:9He said to me again, Stand, I pray thee, over me, and slay me; for anguish has seized me; for my life is yet whole in me.`And he saith unto me, Stand, I pray thee, over me, and put me to death, for seized me hath the arrow, for all my soul [is] still in me.And he said to me: Stand over me, and kill me: for anguish is come upon me, and as yet my whole life is in me.
2nd-Samuel 1:10So I stood over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he would not live after his fall; and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither to my lord.And I stand over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he doth not live after his falling, and I take the crown which [is] on his head, and the bracelet which [is] on his arm, and bring them in unto my lord hither.`So standing over him, I killed him: for I knew that he could not live after the fall: and I took the diadem that was on his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm and have brought them hither to thee, my lord.
2nd-Samuel 1:11Then David took hold of his garments and rent them; and all the men that were with him [did] likewise.And David taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them, and also all the men who [are] with him,Then David took hold of his garments and rent them, and likewise all the men that were with him.
2nd-Samuel 1:12And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.and they mourn, and weep, and fast till the evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel, because they have fallen by the sword.And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord, and for the house of Israel, because they were fallen by the sword.
2nd-Samuel 1:13And David said to the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he said, I am the son of an Amalekite stranger.And David saith unto the youth who is declaring [it] to him, `Whence [art] thou?` and he saith, `Son of a sojourner, an Amalekite, I [am].`And David said to the young man that told him: Whence art thou? He answered: I am the son of a stranger of Amalee.
2nd-Samuel 1:14And David said to him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thy hand to destroy Jehovah's anointed?And David saith unto him, `How wast thou not afraid to put forth thy hand to destroy the anointed of Jehovah?`David said to him: Why didst thou not fear to put out thy hand to kill the Lord's anointed?
2nd-Samuel 1:15Then David called one of the young men and said, Draw near, [and] fall on him. And he smote him that he died.And David calleth to one of the youths, and saith, `Draw nigh fall upon him;` and he smiteth him, and he dieth;And David calling one of his servants, said: Go near and fall upon him. And he struck him so that he died.
2nd-Samuel 1:16And David said to him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth has testified against thee, saying, I have slain Jehovah's anointed.and David saith unto him, `Thy blood [is] on thine own head, for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I I put to death the anointed of Jehovah.`And David said to him: Thy blood be upon thy own head: for thy own mouth hath spoken against thee, saying: I have slain the Lord's anointed.
2nd-Samuel 1:17And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son;And David lamenteth with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son;And David made this kind of lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son.
2nd-Samuel 1:18and he bade them teach the children of Judah [the song of] the bow. Behold, it is written in the book of Jasher:and he saith to teach the sons of Judah `The Bow;` lo, it is written on the book of the Upright:(Also he commanded that they should teach the children of Juda the use of the bow, as it is written in the book of the just.) And he said: Consider, O Israel, for them that are dead, wounded on thy high places.
2nd-Samuel 1:19The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!`The Roebuck, O Israel, On thy high places [is] wounded; How have the mighty fallen!The illustrious of Israel are slain upon thy mountains: how are the valiant fallen?
2nd-Samuel 1:20Tell [it] not in Gath, carry not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon; Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.Declare [it] not in Gath, Proclaim not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon, Lest they rejoice The daughters of the Philistines, Lest they exult The daughters of the Uncircumcised!Tell it not in Geth, publish it not in the streets of Ascalon: lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph,
2nd-Samuel 1:21Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, no rain upon you, nor fields of heave-offerings! For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away, The shield of Saul, [as] not anointed with oil.Mountains of Gilboa! No dew nor rain be on you, And fields of heave-offerings! For there hath become loathsome The shield of the mighty, The shield of Saul without the anointed with oil.Ye mountains of Gelboe, let neither dew, nor rain come upon you, neither be they fields of firstfruits: for there was cast away the shield of the valiant, the shield of Saul as though he had not been anointed with oil.
2nd-Samuel 1:22From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan turned not back, And the sword of Saul returned not empty.From the blood of the wounded, From the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan Hath not turned backward; And the sword of Saul doth not return empty.From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the valiant, the arrow of Jonathan never turned back, and the sword of Saul did not return empty.
2nd-Samuel 1:23Saul and Jonathan, beloved and pleasant in their lives, Even in their death were not divided; They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.Saul and Jonathan! They are loved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they have not been parted. Than eagles they have been lighter, Than lions they have been mightier!Saul and Jonathan, lovely, and comely in their life, even in death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, stronger than lions.
2nd-Samuel 1:24Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet with splendour, Who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.Daughters of Israel! for Saul weep ye, Who is clothing you [in] scarlet with delights. Who is lifting up ornaments of gold on your clothing.Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you with scarlet in delights, who gave ornaments of gold for your attire.
2nd-Samuel 1:25How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain upon thy high places.How have the mighty fallen In the midst of the battle! Jonathan! on thy high places wounded!How are the valiant fallen in battle? Jonathan slain in the high places?
2nd-Samuel 1:26I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant wast thou unto me; Thy love to me was wonderful, passing women's love.I am in distress for thee, my brother Jonathan, Very pleasant wast thou to me; Wonderful was thy love to me, Above the love of women!I grieve for thee, my brother Jonathan: exceeding beautiful, and amiable to me above the love of women. As the mother loveth her only son, so did I love thee.
2nd-Samuel 1:27How are the mighty fallen, and the instruments of war perished!How have the mighty fallen, Yea, the weapons of war perish!`How are the valiant fallen, and the weapons of war perished?
