Romans 4:1 | What shall we say then that Abraham our father according to flesh has found? | What, then, shall we say Abraham our father, to have found, according to flesh? | What shall we say then that Abraham hath found, who is our father according to the flesh. |
Romans 4:2 | For if Abraham has been justified on the principle of works, he has whereof to boast: but not before God; | for if Abraham by works was declared righteous, he hath to boast but not before god; | For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory, but not before God. |
Romans 4:3 | for what does the scripture say? And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. | for what doth the writing say? `And Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him to righteousness;` | For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice. |
Romans 4:4 | Now to him that works the reward is not reckoned as of grace, but of debt: | and to him who is working, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt; | Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned according to grace, but according to debt. |
Romans 4:5 | but to him who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness. | and to him who is not working, and is believing upon Him who is declaring righteous the impious, his faith is reckoned to righteousness: | But to him that worketh not, yet believeth in him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reputed to justice, according to the purpose of the grace of God. |
Romans 4:6 | Even as David also declares the blessedness of the man to whom God reckons righteousness without works: | even as David also doth speak of the happiness of the man to whom God doth reckon righteousness apart from works: | As David also termeth the blessedness of a man, to whom God reputeth justice without works: |
Romans 4:7 | Blessed [they] whose lawlessnesses have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered: | `Happy they whose lawless acts were forgiven, and whose sins were covered; | Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. |
Romans 4:8 | blessed [the] man to whom [the] Lord shall not at all reckon sin. | happy the man to whom the Lord may not reckon sin.` | Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin. |
Romans 4:9 | [Does] this blessedness then [rest] on the circumcision, or also on the uncircumcision? For we say that faith has been reckoned to Abraham as righteousness. | [Is] this happiness, then, upon the circumcision, or also upon the uncircumcision for we say that the faith was reckoned to Abraham to righteousness? | This blessedness then, doth it remain in the circumcision only, or in the uncircumcision also? For we say that unto Abraham faith was reputed to justice. |
Romans 4:10 | How then has it been reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. | how then was it reckoned? he being in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision; | How then was it reputed? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. |
Romans 4:11 | And he received [the] sign of circumcision [as] seal of the righteousness of faith which [he had] being in uncircumcision, that he might be [the] father of all them that believe being in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be reckoned to them also; | and a sign he did receive of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith in the uncircumcision, for his being father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for the righteousness also being reckoned to them, | And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the justice of the faith, which he had, being uncircumcised; that he might be the father of all them that believe, being uncircumcised, that unto them also it may be reputed to justice: |
Romans 4:12 | and father of circumcision, not only to those who are of [the] circumcision, but to those also who walk in the steps of the faith, during uncircumcision, of our father Abraham. | and father of circumcision to those not of circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of the faith, that [is] in the uncircumcision of our father Abraham. | And might be the father of circumcision; not to them only, that are of the circumcision, but to them also that follow the steps of the faithful, that is in the uncircumcision of our father Abraham. |
Romans 4:13 | For [it was] not by law that the promise was to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of [the] world, but by righteousness of faith. | For not through law [is] the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, of his being heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith; | For not through the law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world; but through the justice of faith. |
Romans 4:14 | For if they which [are] of law be heirs, faith is made vain, and the promise made of no effect. | for if they who are of law [are] heirs, the faith hath been made void, and the promise hath been made useless; | For if they who are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, the promise is made of no effect. |
Romans 4:15 | For law works wrath; but where no law is neither [is there] transgression. | for the law doth work wrath; for where law is not, neither [is] transgression. | For the law worketh wrath. For where there is no law, neither is there transgression. |
Romans 4:16 | Therefore [it is] on the principle of faith, that [it might be] according to grace, in order to the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that only which [is] of the law, but to that also which [is] of Abraham's faith, who is father of us all, | Because of this [it is] of faith, that [it may be] according to grace, for the promise being sure to all the seed, not to that which [is] of the law only, but also to that which [is] of the faith of Abraham, | Therefore is it of faith, that according to grace the promise might be firm to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, |
Romans 4:17 | (according as it is written, I have made thee father of many nations,) before the God whom he believed, who quickens the dead, and calls the things which be not as being; | who is father of us all (according as it hath been written `A father of many nations I have set thee,`) before Him whom he did believe God, who is quickening the dead, and is calling the things that be not as being. | (As it is written: I have made thee a father of many nations,) before God, whom he believed, who quickeneth the dead; and calleth those things that are not, as those that are. |
Romans 4:18 | who against hope believed in hope to his becoming father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be: | Who, against hope in hope did believe, for his becoming father of many nations according to that spoken: `So shall thy seed be;` | Who against hope believed in hope; that he might be made the father of many nations, according to that which was said to him: So shall thy seed be. |
Romans 4:19 | and not being weak in faith, he considered not his own body already become dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadening of Sarah's womb, | and not having been weak in the faith, he did not consider his own body, already become dead, (being about a hundred years old,) and the deadness of Sarah`s womb, | And he was not weak in faith; neither did he consider his own body now dead, whereas he was almost an hundred years old, nor the dead womb of Sara. |
Romans 4:20 | and hesitated not at the promise of God through unbelief; but found strength in faith, giving glory to God; | and at the promise of God did not stagger in unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, having given glory to God, | In the promise also of God he staggered not by distrust; but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God: |
Romans 4:21 | and being fully persuaded that what he has promised he is able also to do; | and having been fully persuaded that what He hath promised He is able also to do: | Most fully knowing, that whatsoever he has promised, he is able also to perform. |
Romans 4:22 | wherefore also it was reckoned to him as righteousness. | wherefore also it was reckoned to him to righteousness. | And therefore it was reputed to him unto justice. |
Romans 4:23 | Now it was not written on his account alone that it was reckoned to him, | And it was not written on his account alone, that it was reckoned to him, | Now it is not written only for him, that it was reputed to him unto justice, |
Romans 4:24 | but on ours also, to whom, believing on him who has raised from among [the] dead Jesus our Lord, | but also on ours, to whom it is about to be reckoned to us believing on Him who did raise up Jesus our Lord out of the dead, | But also for us, to whom it shall be reputed, if we believe in him, that raised up Jesus Christ, our Lord, from the dead, |
Romans 4:25 | who has been delivered for our offences and has been raised for our justification, it will be reckoned. | who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised up because of our being declared righteous. | Who was delivered up for our sins, and rose again for our justification. |
