Luke 4:1But Jesus, full of [the] Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit in the wildernessAnd Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, turned back from the Jordan, and was brought in the Spirit to the wilderness,Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
Luke 4:2forty days, tempted of the devil; and in those days he did not eat anything, and when they were finished he hungered.forty days being tempted by the Devil, and he did not eat anything in those days, and they having been ended, he afterward hungered,for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.
Luke 4:3And the devil said to him, If thou be Son of God, speak to this stone, that it become bread.and the Devil said to him, `If Son thou art of God, speak to this stone that it may become bread.`The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
Luke 4:4And Jesus answered unto him saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.And Jesus answered him, saying, `It hath been written, that, not on bread only shall man live, but on every saying of God.`Jesus answered him, saying,"It is written, 'Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'"
Luke 4:5And [the devil], leading him up into a high mountain, shewed him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time.And the Devil having brought him up to an high mountain, shewed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited world in a moment of time.
Luke 4:6And the devil said to him, I will give thee all this power, and their glory; for it is given up to me, and to whomsoever I will I give it.and the Devil said to him, `To thee I will give all this authority, and their glory, because to me it hath been delivered, and to whomsoever I will, I do give it;The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority, and their glory, for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I want.
Luke 4:7If therefore *thou* wilt do homage before me, all [of it] shall be thine.thou, then, if thou mayest bow before me all shall be thine.`If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours."
Luke 4:8And Jesus answering him said, It is written, Thou shalt do homage to [the] Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.And Jesus answering him said, `Get thee behind me, Adversary, for it hath been written, Thou shalt bow before the Lord thy God, and Him only thou shalt serve.`Jesus answered him, "Get behind me Satan! For it is written, 'You will worship the Lord your God, and him only will you serve.'"
Luke 4:9And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the edge of the temple, and said to him, If thou be Son of God, cast thyself down hence;And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, `If the Son thou art of God, cast thyself down hence,He led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,
Luke 4:10for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee to keep thee;for it hath been written To His messengers He will give charge concerning thee, to guard over thee,for it is written, 'He will give his angels charge concerning you, to guard you;'
Luke 4:11and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in any wise thou strike thy foot against a stone.and On hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou mayest dash against a stone thy foot.`and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, Lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.'"
Luke 4:12And Jesus answering said to him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt [the] Lord thy God.And Jesus answering said to him `It hath been said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.`Jesus answering, said to him, "It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'"
Luke 4:13And the devil, having completed every temptation, departed from him for a time.And having ended all temptation, the Devil departed from him till a convenient season.When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for awhile.
Luke 4:14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee; and a rumour went out into the whole surrounding country about him;And Jesus turned back in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a fame went forth through all the region round about concerning him,Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area.
Luke 4:15and *he* taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.and he was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Luke 4:16And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up; and he entered, according to his custom, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.And he came to Nazareth, where he hath been brought up, and he went in, according to his custom, on the sabbath-day, to the synagogue, and stood up to read;He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Luke 4:17And [the] book of the prophet Esaias was given to him; and having unrolled the book he found the place where it was written,and there was given over to him a roll of Isaiah the prophet, and having unfolded the roll, he found the place where it hath been written:The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written,
Luke 4:18[The] Spirit of [the] Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach glad tidings to [the] poor; he has sent me to preach to captives deliverance, and to [the] blind sight, to send forth [the] crushed delivered,`The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, Because he anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to the captives, Recovering of sight to the blind, To deliver those who are crushed,
Luke 4:19to preach [the] acceptable year of [the] Lord.To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.`And to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Luke 4:20And having rolled up the book, when he had delivered it up to the attendant, he sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him.And having folded the roll, having given [it] back to the officer, he sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing on him.He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
Luke 4:21And he began to say to them, To-day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.And he began to say unto them `To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;`He began to tell them, "Today, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
Luke 4:22And all bore witness to him, and wondered at the words of grace which were coming out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?and all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, `Is not this the son of Joseph?`All testified about him, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?"
Luke 4:23And he said to them, Ye will surely say to me this parable, Physician, heal thyself; whatsoever we have heard has taken place in Capernaum do here also in thine own country.And he said unto them, `Certainly ye will say to me this simile, Physician, heal thyself; as great things as we heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country;`He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this parable, 'Physician, heal yourself. Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.'"
Luke 4:24And he said, Verily I say to you, that no prophet is acceptable in his [own] country.and he said, `Verily I say to you No prophet is accepted in his own country;He said, "Most assuredly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.
Luke 4:25But of a truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, so that a great famine came upon all the land,and of a truth I say to you, Many widows were in the days of Elijah, in Israel, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when great famine came on all the land,But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
Luke 4:26and to none of them was Elias sent but to Sarepta of Sidonia, to a woman [that was] a widow.and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow;Elijah was sent to none of them, except only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
Luke 4:27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.and many lepers were in the time of Elisha the prophet, in Israel, and none of them was cleansed, but Naaman the Syrian.`There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."
Luke 4:28And they were all filled with rage in the synagogue, hearing these things;And all in the synagogue were filled with wrath, hearing these things,They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things;
Luke 4:29and rising up they cast him forth out of the city, and led him up to the brow of the mountain upon which their city was built, so that they might throw him down the precipice;and having risen, they put him forth without the city, and brought him unto the brow of the hill on which their city had been built to cast him down headlong,and they rose up, and threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff.
Luke 4:30but *he*, passing through the midst of them, went his way,and he, having gone through the midst of them, went away.But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way.
Luke 4:31and descended to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbaths.And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbaths,He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day,
Luke 4:32And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was with authority.and they were astonished at his teaching, because his word was with authority.and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.
Luke 4:33And there was in the synagogue a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried with a loud voice,And in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a great voice,In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,
Luke 4:34saying, Eh! what have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene? hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy [One] of God.saying, `Away, what to us and to thee, Jesus, O Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art the Holy One of God.`saying, "Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!"
Luke 4:35And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out from him. And the demon, having thrown him down into the midst, came out from him without doing him any injury.And Jesus did rebuke him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him;` and the demon having cast him into the midst, came forth from him, having hurt him nought;Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.
Luke 4:36And astonishment came upon all, and they spoke to one another, saying, What word [is] this? for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.and amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together, with one another, saying, `What [is] this word, that with authority and power he doth command the unclean spirits, and they come forth?`Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!"
Luke 4:37And a rumour went out into every place of the country round concerning him.and there was going forth a fame concerning him to every place of the region round about.News about him went forth into every place of the surrounding region.
Luke 4:38And rising up out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon. But Simon's mother-in-law was suffering under a bad fever; and they asked him for her.And having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,He rose up from the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him for her.
Luke 4:39And standing over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her; and forthwith standing up she served them.and having stood over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her, and presently, having risen, she was ministering to them.He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her. Immediately she rose up and ministered to them.
Luke 4:40And when the sun went down, all, as many as had persons sick with divers diseases, brought them to him, and having laid his hands on every one of them, he healed them;And at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with manifold sicknesses, brought them unto him, and he on each one of them [his] hands having put, did heal them.When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Luke 4:41and demons also went out from many, crying out and saying, *Thou* art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.And demons also were coming forth from many, crying out and saying `Thou art the Christ, the Son of God;` and rebuking, he did not suffer them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn't allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
Luke 4:42And when it was day he went out, and went into a desert place, and the crowds sought after him, and came up to him, and [would have] kept him back that he should not go from them.And day having come, having gone forth, he went on to a desert place, and the multitudes were seeking him, and they came unto him, and were staying him not to go on from them,When it was day, he came out and went into an uninhabited place, and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn't go away from them.
Luke 4:43But he said to them, I must needs announce the glad tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for for this I have been sent forth.and he said unto them `Also to the other cities it behoveth me to proclaim good news of the reign of God, because for this I have been sent;`But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for this reason I have been sent."
Luke 4:44And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.and he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
