John 18:1When Jesus had said these things, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he entered with his disciples.When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples. Jesus, having said these things, went out with his disciples beyond the torrent Cedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, he and his disciples.
John 18:2And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place; because Jesus had often resorted thither together with his disciples.Now Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus oft-times resorted thither with his disciples. And Judas also, who delivered him up, knew the place, because Jesus was often there, in company with his disciples.
John 18:3Judas therefore having received a band of soldiers and servants from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.Judas then, having received the band [of soldiers], and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons. Judas therefore, having got the band, and officers of the chief priests and Pharisees, comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.
John 18:4Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said to them: Whom seek ye?Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon him, went forth, and saith unto them, Whom seek ye? Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth and said to them, Whom seek ye?
John 18:5They answered him: Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith to them: I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am [he]. And Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them. They answered him, Jesus the Nazaraean. Jesus says to them, I am [he]. And Judas also, who delivered him up, stood with them.
John 18:6As soon therefore as he had said to them: I am he; they went backward, and fell to the ground.When therefore he said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground. When therefore he said to them, I am [he], they went away backward and fell to the ground.
John 18:7Again therefore he asked them: Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.Again therefore he asked them, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. He demanded of them therefore again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus the Nazaraean.
John 18:8Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way.Jesus answered, I told you that I am [he]; if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: Jesus answered, I told you that I am [he]: if therefore ye seek me, let these go away;
John 18:9That the word might be fulfilled which he said: Of them whom thou hast given me, I have not lost any one.that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast given me I lost not one. that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, [As to] those whom thou hast given me, I have not lost one of them.
John 18:10Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And the name of the servant was Malchus.Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant's name was Malchus. Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and smote the bondman of the high priest and cut off his right ear; and the bondman's name was Malchus.
John 18:11Jesus therefore said to Peter: Put up thy sword into the scabbard. The chalice which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? Jesus therefore said to Peter, Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
John 18:12Then the band and the tribune, and the servants of the Jews, took Jesus, and bound him:So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him, The band therefore, and the chiliarch, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus and bound him:
John 18:13And they led him away to Annas first, for he was father in law to Caiphas, who was the high priest of that year.and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. and they led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
John 18:14Now Caiphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews: That it was expedient that one man should die for the people.Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. But it was Caiaphas who counselled the Jews that it was better that one man should perish for the people.
John 18:15And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the court of the high priest.And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and [so did] another disciple. Now that disciple was known unto the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest; Now Simon Peter followed Jesus, and the other disciple. But that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest;
John 18:16But Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spoke to the portress, and brought in Peter.but Peter was standing at the door without. So the other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. but Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the porteress and brought in Peter.
John 18:17The maid therefore that was portress, saith to Peter: Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith: I am not.The maid therefore that kept the door saith unto Peter, Art thou also [one] of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
John 18:18Now the servants and ministers stood at a fire of coals, because it was cold, and warmed themselves. And with them was Peter also, standing, and warming himself.Now the servants and the officers were standing [there], having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves: and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. But the bondmen and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold), stood and warmed themselves; and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.
John 18:19The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his teaching. The high priest therefore demanded of Jesus concerning his disciples and concerning his doctrine.
John 18:20Jesus answered him: I have spoken openly to the world: I have always taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort; and in secret I have spoken nothing.Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in secret spake I nothing. Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I taught always in [the] synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and in secret I have spoken nothing.
John 18:21Why asketh thou me? ask them who have heard what I have spoken unto them: behold they know what things I have said.Why askest thou me? Ask them that have heard [me], what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said. Why demandest thou of me? Demand of those who have heard, what I have spoken to them; behold, they know what I have said.
John 18:22And when he had said these things, one of the servants standing by, gave Jesus a blow, saying: Answerest thou the high priest so?And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? But as he said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave a blow on the face to Jesus, saying, Answerest thou the high priest thus?
John 18:23Jesus answered him: If I have spoken evil, give testimony of the evil; but if well, why strikest thou me?Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest thou me?
John 18:24And Annas sent him bound to Caiphas the high priest.Annas therefore sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. Annas [then] had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
John 18:25And Simon Peter was standing, and warming himself. They said therefore to him: Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said: I am not.Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore unto him, Art thou also [one] of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not. But Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, Art thou also of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.
John 18:26One of the servants of the high priest (a kinsman to him whose ear Peter cut off) saith to him: Did I not see thee in the garden with him?One of the servants of the high priest, being a kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
John 18:27Again therefore Peter denied; and immediately the cock crew.Peter therefore denied again: and straightway the cock crew. Peter denied therefore again, and immediately [the] cock crew.
John 18:28Then they led Jesus from Caiphas to the governor's hall. And it was morning; and they went not into the hall, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the pasch.They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover. They lead therefore Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium; and it was early morn. And *they* entered not into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but eat the passover.
John 18:29Pilate therefore went out to them, and said: What accusation bring you against this man?Pilate therefore went out unto them, and saith, What accusation bring ye against this man? Pilate therefore went out to them and said, What accusation do ye bring against this man?
John 18:30They answered, and said to him: If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee. They answered and said to him, If this [man] were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up to thee.
John 18:31Pilate therefore said to them: Take him you, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him: It is not lawful for us to put any man to death;Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: Pilate therefore said to them, Take him, ye, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not permitted to us to put any one to death;
John 18:32That the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he said, signifying what death he should die.that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should die. that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
John 18:33Pilate therefore went into the hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him: Art thou the king of the Jews?Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Pilate therefore entered again into the praetorium and called Jesus, and said to him, Thou art the king of the Jews?
John 18:34Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or have others told it thee of me?Jesus answered, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me? Jesus answered [him], Dost thou say this of thyself, or have others said it to thee concerning me?
John 18:35Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy nation and the chief priests have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?
John 18:36Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence.Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my servants had fought that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.
John 18:37Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate therefore said to him, Thou art then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest [it], that I am a king. I have been born for this, and for this I have come into the world, that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
John 18:38Pilate saith to him: What is truth? And when he said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them: I find no cause in him.Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him. Pilate says to him, What is truth? And having said this he went out again to the Jews, and says to them, I find no fault whatever in him.
John 18:39But you have a custom that I should release one unto you at the pasch: will you, therefore, that I release unto you the king of the Jews?But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? But ye have a custom that I release [some] one to you at the passover; will ye therefore that I release unto you the king of the Jews?
John 18:40Then cried they all again, saying: Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.They cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.) They cried therefore again all, saying, Not this [man], but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
