John 9:2And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
John 9:3Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents. But, that the works of God might be revealed in him,
John 9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
John 9:6When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on his eyes,When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,
John 9:7And said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore, and washed, and he came seeing.and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing. and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8The neighbours therefore, and they who had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he.The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind, before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?"
John 9:9But others said: No, but he is like him. But he said: I am he.Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he]. Others said, "It is he." Still others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he."
John 9:10They said therefore to him: How were thy eyes opened? They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened? They said therefore to him, "How were your eyes opened?"
John 9:11He answered: That man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloe, and wash. And I went, I washed, and I see.He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight. He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash." So I went away and washed, and I received sight."
John 9:12And they said to him: Where is he? He saith: I know not.And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not. Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know."
John 9:13They bring him that had been blind to the Pharisees. They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. They brought him who before was blind to the Pharisees.
John 9:14Now it was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
John 9:15Again therefore the Pharisees asked him, how he had received his sight. But he said to them: He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and I see.Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see. Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."
John 9:16Some therefore of the Pharisees said: This man is not of God, who keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them. Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.
John 9:17They say therefore to the blind man again: What sayest thou of him that hath opened they eyes? And he said: He is a prophet. They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, in that he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
John 9:18The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight, The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
John 9:19And asked them, saying: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then doth he now see?and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see? and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"
John 9:20His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
John 9:21But how he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him speak for himself.but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself. but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."
John 9:22These things his parents said, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23Therefore did his parents say: He is of age, ask himself. Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."
John 9:24They therefore called the man again that had been blind, and said to him: Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner. So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner. So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."
John 9:25He said therefore to them: If he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see."
John 9:26They said then to him: What did he to thee? How did he open thy eyes? They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes? They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
John 9:27He answered them: I have told you already, and you have heard: why would you hear it again? will you also become his disciples? He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples? He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?"
John 9:28They reviled him therefore, and said: Be thou his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses. They became abusive towards him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We know that God spoke to Moses: but as to this man, we know not from whence he is.We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is. We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."
John 9:30The man answered, and said to them: Why, herein is a wonderful thing, that you know not from whence he is, and he hath opened my eyes. The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes. The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
John 9:31Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God, and doth his will, him he heareth. We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth. We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.
John 9:32From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind.Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.
John 9:33Unless this man were of God, he could not do any thing. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
John 9:34They answered, and said to him: Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him: Dost thou believe in the Son of God?Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
John 9:36He answered, and said: Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him? He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"
John 9:37And Jesus said to him: Thou hast both seen him; and it is he that talketh with thee.Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee. Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."
John 9:38And he said: I believe, Lord. And falling down, he adored him.And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshipped him.
John 9:39And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world; that they who see not, may see; and they who see, may become blind. And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind. Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind."
John 9:40And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind? Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind? Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"
John 9:41Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth. Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
