| Matthew 3:1 | And in those days cometh John the Baptist preaching in the desert of Judea. | And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying, | And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, |
| Matthew 3:2 | And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. | Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. | and saying, `Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,` |
