2nd-Peter 2:1But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.But there were false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly put forward wrong teachings for your destruction, even turning away from the Lord who gave himself for them; whose destruction will come quickly, and they themselves will be the cause of it.But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall be also among you false teachers, who shall bring in by the bye destructive heresies, and deny the master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction;
2nd-Peter 2:2And many shall follow their riotousnesses, through whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.And a great number will go with them in their evil ways, through whom the true way will have a bad name.and many shall follow their dissolute ways, through whom the way of the truth shall be blasphemed.
2nd-Peter 2:3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you. Whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their perdition slumbereth not.And in their desire for profit they will come to you with words of deceit, like traders doing business in souls: whose punishment has been ready for a long time and their destruction is watching for them.And through covetousness, with well-turned words, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction slumbers not.
2nd-Peter 2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but delivered them, drawn down by infernal ropes to the lower hell, unto torments, to be reserved unto judgment:For if God did not have pity for the angels who did evil, but sent them down into hell, to be kept in chains of eternal night till they were judged;For if God spared not [the] angels who had sinned, but having cast them down to the deepest pit of gloom has delivered them to chains of darkness [to be] kept for judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:5And spared not the original world, but preserved Noe, the eighth person, the preacher of justice, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.And did not have mercy on the world which then was, but only kept safe Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when he let loose the waters over the world of the evil-doers;and spared not [the] old world, but preserved Noe, [the] eighth, a preacher of righteousness, having brought in [the] flood upon [the] world of [the] ungodly;
2nd-Peter 2:6And reducing the cities of the Sodomites, and of the Gomorrhites, into ashes, condemned them to be overthrown, making them an example to those that should after act wickedly.And sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah, burning them up with fire as an example to those whose way of life might in the future be unpleasing to him;and having reduced [the] cities of Sodom and Gomorrha to ashes, condemned [them] with an overthrow, setting [them as] an example to those that should [afterwards] live an ungodly life;
2nd-Peter 2:7And delivered just Lot, oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked.And kept safe Lot, the upright man, who was deeply troubled by the unclean life of the evil-doersand saved righteous Lot, distressed with the abandoned conversation of the godless,
2nd-Peter 2:8For in sight and hearing he was just: dwelling among them, who from day to day vexed the just soul with unjust works.(Because the soul of that upright man living among them was pained from day to day by seeing and hearing their crimes):(for the righteous man through seeing and hearing, dwelling among them, tormented [his] righteous soul day after day with [their] lawless works,)
2nd-Peter 2:9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented.The Lord is able to keep the upright safe in the time of testing, and to keep evil-doers under punishment till the day of judging;[the] Lord knows [how] to deliver the godly out of trial, and to keep [the] unjust to [the] day of judgment [to be] punished;
2nd-Peter 2:10And especially them who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government, audacious, self willed, they fear not to bring in sects, blaspheming.But specially those who go after the unclean desires of the flesh, and make sport of authority. Ready to take chances, uncontrolled, they have no fear of saying evil of those in high places:and specially those who walk after the flesh in [the] lust of uncleanness, and despise lordship. Bold [are they], self-willed; they do not fear speaking injuriously of dignities:
2nd-Peter 2:11Whereas angels who are greater in strength and power, bring not against themselves a railing judgment.Though the angels, who are greater in strength and power, do not make use of violent language against them before the Lord.when angels, who are greater in might and power, do not bring against them, before the Lord, an injurious charge.
2nd-Peter 2:12But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption,But these men, like beasts without reason, whose natural use is to be taken and put to death, crying out against things of which they have no knowledge, will undergo that same destruction which they are designing for others;But these, as natural animals without reason, made to be caught and destroyed, speaking injuriously in things they are ignorant of, shall also perish in their own corruption,
2nd-Peter 2:13Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you:For the evil which overtakes them is the reward of their evil-doing: such men take their pleasure in the delights of the flesh even in the daytime; they are like the marks of a disease, like poisoned wounds among you, feasting together with you in joy;receiving [the] reward of unrighteousness; accounting ephemeral indulgence pleasure; spots and blemishes, rioting in their own deceits, feasting with you;
2nd-Peter 2:14Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls, having their heart exercised with covetousness, children of malediction:Having eyes full of evil desire, never having enough of sin; turning feeble souls out of the true way; they are children of cursing, whose hearts are well used to bitter envy;having eyes full of adultery, and that cease not from sin, alluring unestablished souls; having a heart practised in covetousness, children of curse;
2nd-Peter 2:15Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity,Turning out of the true way, they have gone wandering in error, after the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was pleased to take payment for wrongdoing;having left [the] straight way they have gone astray, having followed in the path of Balaam [the son] of Bosor, who loved [the] reward of unrighteousness;
2nd-Peter 2:16But had a check of his madness, the dumb beast used to the yoke, which speaking with man's voice, forbade the folly of the prophet.But his wrongdoing was pointed out to him: an ass, talking with a man's voice, put a stop to the error of the prophet.but had reproof of his own wickedness [the] dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the folly of the prophet.
2nd-Peter 2:17These are fountains without water, and clouds tossed with whirlwinds, to whom the mist of darkness is reserved.These are fountains without water, and mists before a driving storm; for whom the eternal night is kept in store.These are springs without water, and mists driven by storm, to whom the gloom of darkness is reserved [for ever].
2nd-Peter 2:18For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness, those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:For with high-sounding false words, making use of the attraction of unclean desires of the flesh, they get into their power those newly made free from those who are living in error;For [while] speaking great highflown words of vanity, they allure with [the] lusts of [the] flesh, by dissoluteness, those who have just fled those who walk in error,
2nd-Peter 2:19Promising them liberty, whereas they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom a man is overcome, of the same also he is the slave.Saying that they will be free, while they themselves are the servants of destruction; because whatever gets the better of a man makes a servant of him.promising them liberty, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a man is subdued, by him is he also brought into slavery.
2nd-Peter 2:20For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.For if, after they have got free from the unclean things of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again taken in the net and overcome, their last condition is worse than their first.For if after having escaped the pollutions of the world through [the] knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, again entangled, they are subdued by these, their last state is worse than the first.
2nd-Peter 2:21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice, than after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them.For it would have been better for them to have had no knowledge of the way of righteousness, than to go back again from the holy law which was given to them, after having knowledge of it.For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it] to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
2nd-Peter 2:22For, that of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog is returned to his vomit: and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.They are an example of that true saying, The dog has gone back to the food it had put out, and the pig which had been washed to its rolling in the dirty earth.But that [word] of the true proverb has happened to them: [The] dog [has] turned back to his own vomit; and, [The] washed sow to [her] rolling in mud.
