Luke 4:1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the desert,And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, came back from the Jordan, and was guided by the Spirit in the waste landBut Jesus, full of [the] Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness
Luke 4:2For the space of forty days; and was tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry.For forty days, being tested by the Evil One. And he had no food in those days; and when they came to an end, he was in need of food.forty days, tempted of the devil; and in those days he did not eat anything, and when they were finished he hungered.
Luke 4:3And the devil said to him: If thou be the Son of God, say to this stone that it be made bread.And the Evil One said to him, If you are the Son of God, give orders to this stone to become bread.And the devil said to him, If thou be Son of God, speak to this stone, that it become bread.
Luke 4:4And Jesus answered him: It is written, that Man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word of God.And Jesus made answer to him, It has been said in the Writings, Bread is not man's only need.And Jesus answered unto him saying, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Luke 4:5And the devil led him into a high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time;And he took him up and let him see all the kingdoms of the earth in a minute of time.And [the devil], leading him up into a high mountain, shewed him all the kingdoms of the habitable world in a moment of time.
Luke 4:6And he said to him: To thee will I give all this power, and the glory of them; for to me they are delivered, and to whom I will, I give them.And the Evil One said, I will give you authority over all these, and the glory of them, for it has been given to me, and I give it to anyone at my pleasure.And the devil said to him, I will give thee all this power, and their glory; for it is given up to me, and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Luke 4:7If thou therefore wilt adore before me, all shall be thine.If then you will give worship to me, it will all be yours.If therefore *thou* wilt do homage before me, all [of it] shall be thine.
Luke 4:8And Jesus answering said to him: It is written: Thou shalt adore the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.And Jesus in answer said to him, It has been said in the Writings, Give worship to the Lord your God, and be his servant only.And Jesus answering him said, It is written, Thou shalt do homage to [the] Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.
Luke 4:9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and he said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself from hence.And he took him to Jerusalem and put him on the highest point of the Temple and said to him, If you are the Son of God, let yourself go down from here; for it is said in the Writings,And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the edge of the temple, and said to him, If thou be Son of God, cast thyself down hence;
Luke 4:10For it is written, that He hath given his angels charge over thee, that they keep thee.He will give his angels orders to take care of you:for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee to keep thee;
Luke 4:11And that in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.And, In their hands they will keep you up, so that your foot may not be crushed against a stone.and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in any wise thou strike thy foot against a stone.
Luke 4:12And Jesus answering, said to him: It is said: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.And Jesus made answer and said to him, It is said in the Writings, You may not put the Lord your God to the test.And Jesus answering said to him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt [the] Lord thy God.
Luke 4:13And all the temptation being ended, the devil departed from him for a time.And when all these tests were ended the Evil One went away from him for a time.And the devil, having completed every temptation, departed from him for a time.
Luke 4:14And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit, into Galilee, and the fame of him went out through the whole country.And Jesus came back to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and the news of him went through all the country round about.And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee; and a rumour went out into the whole surrounding country about him;
Luke 4:15And he taught in their synagogues, and was magnified by all.And he was teaching in their Synagogues and all men gave him praise.and *he* taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
Luke 4:16And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up: and he went into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the sabbath day; and he rose up to read.And he came to Nazareth, where he had been as a child, and he went, as his way was, into the Synagogue on the Sabbath, and got up to give a reading.And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up; and he entered, according to his custom, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Luke 4:17And the book of Isaias the prophet was delivered unto him. And as he unfolded the book, he found the place where it was written:And the book of the prophet Isaiah was given to him and, opening the book, he came on the place where it is said,And [the] book of the prophet Esaias was given to him; and having unrolled the book he found the place where it was written,
Luke 4:18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. Wherefore he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the contrite of heart,The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because I am marked out by him to give good news to the poor; he has sent me to make well those who are broken-hearted; to say that the prisoners will be let go, and the blind will see, and to make the wounded free from their chains,[The] Spirit of [the] Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach glad tidings to [the] poor; he has sent me to preach to captives deliverance, and to [the] blind sight, to send forth [the] crushed delivered,
Luke 4:19To preach deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of reward.To give knowledge that the year of the Lord's good pleasure is come.to preach [the] acceptable year of [the] Lord.
Luke 4:20And when he had folded the book, he restored it to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.And shutting the book he gave it back to the servant and took his seat: and the eyes of all in the Synagogue were fixed on him.And having rolled up the book, when he had delivered it up to the attendant, he sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him.
Luke 4:21And he began to say to them: This day is fulfilled this scripture in your ears.Then he said to them, Today this word has come true in your hearing.And he began to say to them, To-day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.
Luke 4:22And all gave testimony to him: and they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth, and they said: Is not this the son of Joseph?And they were all giving witness, with wonder, to the words of grace which came from his mouth: and they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?And all bore witness to him, and wondered at the words of grace which were coming out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this the son of Joseph?
Luke 4:23And he said to them: Doubtless you will say to me this similitude: Physician, heal thyself: as great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in thy own country.And he said to them, Without doubt you will say to me, Let the medical man make himself well: the things which to our knowledge were done at Capernaum, do them here in your country.And he said to them, Ye will surely say to me this parable, Physician, heal thyself; whatsoever we have heard has taken place in Capernaum do here also in thine own country.
Luke 4:24And he said: Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country.And he said to them, Truly I say to you, No prophet is honoured in his country.And he said, Verily I say to you, that no prophet is acceptable in his [own] country.
Luke 4:25In truth I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth.Truly I say to you, There were a number of widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months and there was no food in the land;But of a truth I say to you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, so that a great famine came upon all the land,
Luke 4:26And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman.But Elijah was not sent to one of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.and to none of them was Elias sent but to Sarepta of Sidonia, to a woman [that was] a widow.
Luke 4:27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet: and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.And there were a number of lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and not one of them was made clean, but only Naaman the Syrian.And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.
Luke 4:28And all they in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with anger.And all who were in the Synagogue were very angry when these things were said to them.And they were all filled with rage in the synagogue, hearing these things;
Luke 4:29And they rose up and thrust him out of the city; and they brought him to the brow of the hill, whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.And they got up and took him out of the town to the edge of the mountain on which their town was, so that they might send him down to his death.and rising up they cast him forth out of the city, and led him up to the brow of the mountain upon which their city was built, so that they might throw him down the precipice;
Luke 4:30But he passing through the midst of them, went his way.But he came through them and went on his way.but *he*, passing through the midst of them, went his way,
Luke 4:31And he went down into Capharnaum, a city of Galilee, and there he taught them on the sabbath days.And he came down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee; and he was giving them teaching on the Sabbath.and descended to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbaths.
Luke 4:32And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his speech was with power.And they were surprised at his teaching, for his word was with authority.And they were astonished at his doctrine, for his word was with authority.
Luke 4:33And in the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean devil, and he cried out with a loud voice,And there was a man in the Synagogue who had an unclean spirit; and he gave a loud cry and said,And there was in the synagogue a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried with a loud voice,
Luke 4:34Saying: Let us alone, what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God.Let us be! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? have you come to put an end to us? I have knowledge who you are, the Holy One of God.saying, Eh! what have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene? hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy [One] of God.
Luke 4:35And Jesus rebuked him, saying: Hold thy peace, and go out of him. And when the devil had thrown him into the midst, he went out of him, and hurt him not at all.And Jesus said to him, Be quiet, and come out of him. And when the evil spirit had put him down on the earth in the middle of them, he came out of him, having done him no damage.And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out from him. And the demon, having thrown him down into the midst, came out from him without doing him any injury.
Luke 4:36And there came fear upon all, and they talked among themselves, saying: What word is this, for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out?And wonder came on them all and they said to one another, What are these words? for with authority and power he gives orders to the evil spirits and they come out.And astonishment came upon all, and they spoke to one another, saying, What word [is] this? for with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.
Luke 4:37And the fame of him was published into every place of the country.And there was much talk about him in all the places round about.And a rumour went out into every place of the country round concerning him.
Luke 4:38And Jesus rising up out of the synagogue, went into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever, and they besought him for her.And he got up and went out of the Synagogue and went into the house of Simon. And Simon's wife's mother was very ill with a burning heat; and in answer to their prayers for herAnd rising up out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon. But Simon's mother-in-law was suffering under a bad fever; and they asked him for her.
Luke 4:39And standing over her, he commanded the fever, and it left her. And immediately rising, she ministered to them.He went near her, and with a sharp word he gave orders to the disease and it went away from her; and straight away she got up and took care of their needs.And standing over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her; and forthwith standing up she served them.
Luke 4:40And when the sun was down, all they that had any sick with divers diseases, brought them to him. But he laying his hands on every one of them, healed them.And at sundown all those who had anyone ill with any sort of disease, took them to him, and he put his hands on every one of them and made them well.And when the sun went down, all, as many as had persons sick with divers diseases, brought them to him, and having laid his hands on every one of them, he healed them;
Luke 4:41And devils went out from many, crying out and saying: Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them he suffered them not to speak, for they knew that he was Christ.And evil spirits came out of a number of them, crying out and saying, You are the Son of God. But he gave them sharp orders not to say a word, because they had knowledge that he was the Christ.and demons also went out from many, crying out and saying, *Thou* art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.
Luke 4:42And when it was day, going out he went into a desert place, and the multitudes sought him, and came unto him: and they stayed him that he should not depart from them.And when it was day, he came out and went to a waste place; and great numbers of people came looking for him, and they came to him and would have kept him from going away.And when it was day he went out, and went into a desert place, and the crowds sought after him, and came up to him, and [would have] kept him back that he should not go from them.
Luke 4:43To whom he said: To other cities also I must preach the kingdom of God: for therefore am I sent.But he said to them, I have to give the good news of the kingdom of God in other towns, because that is why I was sent.But he said to them, I must needs announce the glad tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for for this I have been sent forth.
Luke 4:44And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.And he was teaching in the Synagogues of Galilee.And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
