Matthew 4:1 | Then Jesus was led by the spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil. | Then Jesus was sent by the Spirit into the waste land to be tested by the Evil One. | Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil: |
Matthew 4:2 | And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. | And after going without food for forty days and forty nights, he was in need of it. | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. |
Matthew 4:3 | And the tempter coming said to him: If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. | And the Evil One came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, give the word for these stones to become bread. | And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread. |
Matthew 4:4 | Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God. | But he made answer and said, It is in the Writings, Bread is not man's only need, but every word which comes out of the mouth of God. | But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth. |
Matthew 4:5 | Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple, | Then the Evil One took him to the holy town; and he put him on the highest point of the Temple and said to him, | Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple, |
Matthew 4:6 | And said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written: That he hath given his angels charge over thee, and in their hands shall they bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone. | If you are the Son of God, let yourself go down; for it is in the Writings, He will give his angels care over you; and, In their hands they will keep you up, so that your foot may not be crushed against a stone. | and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone. |

Matthew 4:24 | And his fame went throughout all Syria, and they presented to him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and such as were possessed by devils, and lunatics, and those that had palsy, and he cured them: | And news of him went out through all Syria; and they took to him all who were ill with different diseases and pains, those having evil spirits and those who were off their heads, and those who had no power of moving. And he made them well. | And his fame went out into the whole [of] Syria, and they brought to him all that were ill, suffering under various diseases and pains, and those possessed by demons, and lunatics, and paralytics; and he healed them. |
