Matthew 22:1And Jesus answering, spoke again in parables to them, saying:And Jesus, talking to them again in stories, said:And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
Matthew 22:2The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son.The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a feast when his son was married,The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
Matthew 22:3And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come.And sent out his servants to get in the guests to the feast: and they would not come.And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
Matthew 22:4Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.Again he sent out other servants, with orders to say to the guests, See, I have made ready my feast: my oxen and my fat beasts have been put to death, and all things are ready: come to the feast.Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
Matthew 22:5But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.But they gave no attention, and went about their business, one to his farm, another to his trade:But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
Matthew 22:6And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.And the rest put violent hands on his servants, and did evil to them, and put them to death.And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
Matthew 22:7But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.But the king was angry; and he sent his armies, and those who had put his servants to death he gave to destruction, burning down their town with fire.But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
Matthew 22:8Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy.Then he said to his servants, The feast is ready but the guests were not good enough.Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
Matthew 22:9Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.Go then to the cross-roads, and get all those whom you see to come to the bride-feast.Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
Matthew 22:10And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests.And those servants went out into the streets, and got together all those whom they came across, bad and good: and the feast was full of guests.So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
Matthew 22:11And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment.But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a guest's robe;And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
Matthew 22:12And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent.And he says to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a guest's robe? And he had nothing to say.And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Matthew 22:13Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then the king said to the servants, Put cords round his hands and feet and put him out into the dark; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 22:14For many are called, but few are chosen.For out of all to whom the good news has come, only a small number will get salvation.For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22:15Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.Then the Pharisees went and had a meeting to see how they might make use of his words to take him.Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
Matthew 22:16And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.And they sent to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we see that you are true, and that you are teaching the true way of God, and have no fear of anyone, because you have no respect for a man's position.And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
Matthew 22:17Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?Give us, then, your opinion of this: Is it right to give tax to Caesar, or not?Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
Matthew 22:18But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?But Jesus saw their trick and said, Oh false ones, why are you attempting to put me in the wrong?But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
Matthew 22:19Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.Let me see the tax money. And they gave him a penny.Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
Matthew 22:20And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?And he said to them, Whose is this image and name on it?And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
Matthew 22:21They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.They say to him, Caesar's. Then he said to them, Give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's.They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
Matthew 22:22And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways.And hearing it, they were full of wonder, and went away from him.When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
Matthew 22:23That day there came to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and asked him,On the same day there came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no coming back from the dead: and they put a question to him, saying,The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
Matthew 22:24Saying: Master, Moses said: If a man die having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up issue to his brother.Master, Moses said, If a man, at the time of his death, has no children, let his brother take his wife, and get a family for his brother;Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Matthew 22:25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother.Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first was married and at his death, having no seed, gave his wife to his brother;Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
Matthew 22:26In like manner the second, and the third, and so on to the seventh.In the same way the second and the third, up to the seventh.Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
Matthew 22:27And last of all the woman died also.And last of all the woman came to her end.And last of all the woman died also.
Matthew 22:28At the resurrection therefore whose wife of the seven shall she be? for they all had her.When they come back from the dead, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? because they all had her.Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
Matthew 22:29And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.But Jesus said to them in answer, You are in error, not having knowledge of the Writings, or of the power of God.Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:30For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.For when they come back from the dead there are no husbands and wives, but they are as the angels in heaven.For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
Matthew 22:31And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:But about the dead coming back to life, have you no knowledge of what was said to you by God in the Writings:But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
Matthew 22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead but of the living.I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
Matthew 22:33And the multitudes hearing it, were in admiration at his doctrine.And the people hearing it were surprised at his teaching.And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
Matthew 22:34But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together:But the Pharisees, hearing how the mouths of the Sadducees had been stopped, came together;But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
Matthew 22:35And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:And one of them, a teacher of the law, put a question to him, testing him, and saying,Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
Matthew 22:36Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?Master, which is the chief rule in the law?Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Matthew 22:37Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.And he said to him, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Matthew 22:38This is the greatest and the first commandment.This is the first and greatest rule.This is the first and great commandment.
Matthew 22:39And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.And a second like it is this, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself.And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Matthew 22:40On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.On these two rules all the law and the prophets are based.On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:41And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them,Now while the Pharisees were together, Jesus put a question to them, saying,While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Matthew 22:42Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's.What is your opinion of the Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, The Son of David.Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
Matthew 22:43He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:He says to them, How then does David in the Spirit give him the name of Lord, saying,He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
Matthew 22:44The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?The Lord said to my Lord, Be seated at my right hand, till I put under your feet all those who are against you?The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Matthew 22:45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?If David then gives him the name of Lord, how is he his son?If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
Matthew 22:46And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.And no one was able to give him an answer, and so great was their fear of him, that from that day no one put any more questions to him.And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
