Titus 3:1 | Admonish them to be subject to princes and powers, to obey at a word, to be ready to every good work. | Make clear to them that they are to put themselves under rulers and authorities, to do what they are ordered, to be ready for every good work, | Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, |
Titus 3:2 | To speak evil of no man, not to be litigious, but gentle: shewing all mildness towards all men. | To say no evil of any man, not to be fighters, to give way to others, to be gentle in behaviour to all men. | To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. |
Titus 3:3 | For we ourselves also were some time unwise, incredulous, erring, slaves to divers desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. | For in the past we were foolish, hard in heart, turned from the true way, servants of evil desires and pleasures, living in bad feeling and envy, hated and hating one another. | For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. |
Titus 3:4 | But when the goodness and kindness of God our Savior appeared: | But when the mercy of God our Saviour, and his love to man was seen, | But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, |
Titus 3:5 | Not by the works of justice, which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renovation of the Holy Ghost; | Not by works of righteousness which we did ourselves, but in the measure of his mercy, he gave us salvation, through the washing of the new birth and the giving of new life in the Holy Spirit, | Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; |
Titus 3:6 | Whom he hath poured forth upon us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Savior: | Which he gave us freely through Jesus Christ our Saviour; | Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; |
Titus 3:7 | That, being justified by his grace, we may be heirs, according to hope of life everlasting. | So that, having been given righteousness through grace, we might have a part in the heritage, the hope of eternal life. | That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. |
Titus 3:8 | It is a faithful saying: and these things I will have thee affirm constantly: that they, who believe in God, may be careful to excel in good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. | This is a true saying; and it is my desire that you may give certain witness about these things, so that those who have had faith in God may give attention to good works. These things are good and of profit to men; | This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. |
Titus 3:9 | But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law. For they are unprofitable and vain. | But have nothing to do with foolish questionings, and lists of generations, and fights and arguments about the law; for they are of no profit and foolish. | But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. |
Titus 3:10 | A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid: | A man whose opinions are not those of the church, after a first and second protest, is to be kept out of your society; | A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; |
Titus 3:11 | Knowing that he, that is such an one, is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment. | Clearly he is in error and a sinner, being self-judged. | Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. |
Titus 3:12 | When I shall send to thee Artemas or Tychicus, make haste to come unto me to Nicopolis. For there I have determined to winter. | When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis: for it is my purpose to be there for the winter. | When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. |
Titus 3:13 | Send forward Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollo, with care, that nothing be wanting to them. | Send Zenas, the man of law, and Apollos on their journey with all care, so that they may be in need of nothing. | Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them. |
Titus 3:14 | And let our men also learn to excel in good works for necessary uses: that they be not unfruitful. | And let our people go on with good works for necessary purposes, so that they may not be without fruit. | And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. |
Titus 3:15 | All that are with me salute thee: salute them that love us in the faith. The grace of God be with you all. Amen. | All who are with me send you their love. Give our love to our friends in the faith. Grace be with you all. | All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. |
